I could be crazy but...The Monkey King?

I know how some of us may feel about the Mike Taylor loss, I'm particularly bummed because I genuinely liked the guy.  he was in all of my debates regarding how good the Clippers can be and now he is gone.

However, among other waivers there could be some potential.

Taking on Laker leftovers is never the greatest feeling, but what about Sun Yue?

In action he is a smart passer, versatile (can play the 1-3), has the tall PG body type (I believe listed at 6'9) Dunleavy loves.  He's also an unknown commodity with plenty of potential that wouldn't cost us a fortune.

He might not take choose to sign with us, but if he is willing, does anyone else think it would be worth it to give Sun Yue a test run?

Here is MDsr’s chance to make up for the Korolev pick…I suggested this in the fanshot when Dillman twitted the news of his release…why not?

Roger Sterling: I bet there were people in the Bible walking around, complaining about "kids today."
Don Draper: Kids today, they have no one to look up to. Cuz they're looking up to us.

Sun Yue

The second coming of Wang Zhi Zhi! Scoop him up! The dude is straight up BALLA!

What's with the title of this thread?

Monkey King?

As for Sun Yue, I’m game, heck if he was good enough to make it the whole year on a eventual champion’s roster that’s pretty impressive.

hell no

Yue doesn’t have any game at all rather have an empty roster spot then him (all though an empty roster spot and Sun Yue are almost one and the same)

Is he that bad?

Didn’t see him play much but he has a good all around game. He almost averaged a triple double in the ABA. I know the level of competition there is weak but he never would have made the Lakers roster last year if he didn’t have some game.

Never watched him either,

But I wouldnt mind getting him and placing him in teh D-League. The Chinese Magic Johnson might have some hidden value. But its hard to say because I believe he was drafted in the late 2nd round? So in that case, maybe scouts see something some of us don’t.

I wouldn't take him just to put him on the D league

because he still takes up a roster spot that we will need to resign Novak and Jones.

DO

No more “potential” players…

by sqrebck on Aug 3, 2009 6:33 PM PDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

No more potential players, how about a three point shooter.

I think the clippers need a quality three point shooter. I thought fred jones started shooting pretty well towards the end of the season, and I believe he has better D than Yue. Also Jones would come at a cheep price like a vet min I believe. That would leave extra money for signing someone else if Jones sucks it up, and if he doesn’t we would have extra money for the 2010 sweepstakes. We need some one who can play D not just another skinny guard when on D watches the off. player pass them for a dunk or an extremely easy shot.

Hell no

I watched Sun Yue last year in the summer league, I have never seen a PG so slow that he was getting tracked down by an overweight center. The crazy thing was Sun Yue had a 10 ft lead. He can’t shoot, pass, defend, use his size to his advantage. I think Korolev has more skill than the Chinese Magic

Hmm

I think Qlippers is just saying that because he hates Chinese people.

Last I recall

he did very well in Summer league.

by Newtybar on Aug 3, 2009 11:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

eh

it would be interesting to try Yue for a cheap price b/c he plays positions where we’re particularly thin, but i would have to agree with the " no more ‘potential’ players" consensus. he didnt get anything more than garbage minutes due to the lakers depth at the 3 so im kind of curious as to what this guys potential is. But yeah.. i don’t care to have him on the clippers.

by AtotheZ on Aug 3, 2009 7:51 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah if we wanted potential players at the PG

then we would have kept Taylor and Yue is even farther back in his development and is not fun at all to watch.

Playmaking ability

Sun is a better decision maker and smarter with the rock. He’s a play maker who’s 6’9 kind of like our old friend Livingston.

…and he’s not slow like some of you make him out to be. Did you not see him play for China?

by Newtybar on Aug 3, 2009 11:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Sterling wants more fans

Signing Sun Yue wouldn’t be a bad idea. The Los Angeles area has a huge Asian American and Asian immigrant communities and if Sun Yue can get popular, he’ll be a draw for some people in those communities. My Dad is from China and he roots for Yao Ming all the time, even when it’s against the Lakers or Clippers. If Sun Yue can get on the level of Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, or Luol Deng, then not only will he draw fans from his home country (China), he’ll be popular among the Asian community here.

by peterghost on Aug 3, 2009 10:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

But Sun Yue isn't even close Yao

I am pretty sure that just putting some random Asian guy that won’t play on the team more then once a month will not draw more then a few fans. And seeing that it is the clips they probably won’t even know there is another team in LA. Bringing in Sun just makes absolute zero sense and it won’t happen I can guarantee it.

Well yeah, I'm pretty sure its not gonna happen too

Just a thought if Sun Yue ever lives up to his potential as the Chinese Magic Johnson which I doubt he will ever be. Everyone thought Yi Jianlian was going to be the next great Chinese Big Man but he hardly made a splash since coming to the NBA. The same thing is going to happen to Sun Yue unless his skills magically get better in the next several years.

there might be a reason why he was a laye first round pick...

And not picked where yi or yao was drafted. I mean, if your nickname was the chinese magic, you would think a player with that nickname would be drafted a bit later…

He couldn’t carry Yao’s jock strap in a suitcase.

I have literally never seen him play...

So I have no opinion.

The waiver wire guy that caught my eye was Gabe Pruitt. What about bringing him back to LA?

not to randomly post anything

but why not leon powe? He’d make a great player off the bench. Btw, I’ve never watched pruitt before, but is he any good? Why not just make an attempt for air jones (fred) again?

Pruitt? is he a SG?

last time i saw that he had a $825K salary, so it should be a cheap price.

He's a point....

but at 6’4" he’s got good size and could conceivably help out on defense at the two.

So can Pruitt be had for the Min.?

if he can then that could be a good thing.

No!

to Sun Yue. Can’t do Powe we have Griffin and Smith plus Powe still has sign with a contender vaule. Pruitt isn’t really the ansewer.

by KillaClip on Aug 4, 2009 2:30 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I thought of that too.

but Rhino seems a bit undersized and is only a one year deal. I guess Blake, Rhino, and Powe are both energy guys. I hear that all 3 hussle alot, so Im guessing adding Powe might not be nessisary with Rhino off the bench.
