Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Blake Griffin: Narrow World of Sports (via NarrowWorld)

Blake Griffin is a very funny dude. Check out this interview. Best line: "I would cry myself to steep. Why did I have to be half-white. Why couldn't I just be guaranteed to be in the NBA."

A half a hat tip to Citizen Cliptakular, who kind of posted this, but couldn't quite master the link or the embed.

Wonder how much of those lines were his...

But anyway, Here’s my favourite:
What do you do between practices?
… Get something to eat, nap, sleep. Nap and sleep are different you know…

I could totally see some NBA veteran taking a rookie under his wing:
“You know son, the most important to things in an NBA season are Nap and Sleep. Nap and sleep are different you know” and keep that same straight face Blake just made.

I think they were his lines...

But obviously the goal going in to the interview was to have this deadpan, serious take on silly things. When Mehlman asks him about the playboy mansion, he loses it for a second, and then they redo the question and he gives the deadpan answer. So it was a plan for how to conduct the interview, but he totally nailed it, which is an accomplishment.

In this world, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. - Elwood P. Dowd

Nice work

Yeah, he was nailing it, up until the Playboy Mansion thing.

Don’t know that I’ve ever seen Mehlman before, but he did a great job. Really funny, great questions, great set-ups. Liked the one-on-one stuff too: that was funny.

Griffin seems bright, like he gets the joke, knows how to do the deadpan thing and he really took to it—it seemed like he felt it was refreshing to take that attitude, after being such a role model and paragon of virtue and going at everything straight on. “I really don’t care about my family now,” or whatever he said exactly, was funny. The spirit of the whole thing was great.

Nice work by Mehlman, and BG gets a chance to break out a little bit and show smarts, some comedy chops, and expands his presence.

Very well done.

Reminded me of Jimmy Kimmel’s Big Night of Stars schtick.

Game du Mehlman

StevieP,
Mehlman’s game is reminiscent of yours. When he went around his back, I was sure it was you in your Professor Irwin Corey Halloween outfit. He did appear to have my hops, though.
