Eric Gordon: 2010 Break Out Player, All-Star?
Be sure to read the user comments at the bottom for a rather robust counterpoint on his chances at an All-Star berth in 2010... regardless, it's nice to know that at least one writer is paying attention...

Someone is paying attention. Gordon makes sense, given his numbers as a starter, and the fact that he finished the season so strong. Mayo is sort of the opposite – his monthly averages actually decreased every full month of the season, though he did bounce back a little in the 9 April games. But why isn’t Derrick Rose on the list? Did he already break out? And Aaron Brooks? 14 and 4 as a starter? How much more is he going to break out? It’s also funny how the author argues that Gordon will benefit from having more threats around him (defenses won’t be able to focus on stopping him) and the Brooks will benefit from having fewer threats (with Yao gone, he’ll have to break out). Can both those things be true?
In fact, this last point is the reason that Gordon might very well take a step backward, in terms of raw numbers. Last season he HAD to score, but he’s not a heedless gunner (which is why his percentages are so impressive). It’s entirely possible that he’ll score less this season than the 18.4 he averaged as a starter last season.

Maybe Gordon is like a Star-Role Player hybrid. He is very smart, unselfish, and gets what the teams needs…like a role player. But the “things” the team needs, he gets them like a star player. So more threats would lead him to freely explode every night by feeding off stars/threats like Blake, Baron, etc.
Not sure if that entirely makes sense but yea…
As for Brooks, I did not follow him very well but maybe he is one of those players that if they have the ball they can do great things. Subtracting Artest, Yao, and T-Mac allows him to have the ball more often, meaning he can do great things more often.
Also I agree that more threats will lead to less scoring opportunity and less scoring need for Gordon this coming season, but assuming there is a playbook change, we might see a lot more possessions per game. Meaning that although he may not get the ball or have to score every time, there may be so many more possessions that he can still reach that mark.
…How many points per game would the Clippers average if Gordon is not the focal point of the threats on offense, but he still averages around 18 ppg?
List was for Western Conference only...
… which is why D Rose isn’t on this list. Plus I wonder if they would say that he has already “broken out.”

Ah...
My bad. Western Conference.

I think Gordon can definitley be a star
but he might be hard for him to become an all star seeing as there is so many good guards. I don’t think that Griffin and Baron are going to make his numbers drop, if anything the added scoring threats of Baron and Griffin will make it harder for teams to defend Gordon making it easier for him to score and making our team much more dangerous.
In Gordon we trust
If we were on Facebook....
I would say Chris likes this. Just like in Steve’s post about TSP, it is clear that Gordon has the offensive eff. and the talent to be an All-Star for many years to come. The only thing that is working against him—- although I think it will change—- is the Clippers’ do not enough national recognition. I think this will change because they will be an improved team and we have the #1 draft pick named Blake Griffin.
There have been many people that have performed really well in their respective careers that have been all star snubs, because the popular people always get voted in… lets hope that does not happen to EJ
