Who knew that the 3rd meeting between the Clippers and the Memphis Funk would be a big, exciting, critical game? The informed citizenry of ClipsNation, that's who, well aware that our friendly neighborhood Zbo would be a tidy fit with the young Funk, in the "sucker's deal" that actually put the franchise back onto the map.
So now let's break it down a little bit, with the Clips surging into a crucial test--jump and get Funky!
SP will tell us more in his upcoming preview, but the Clips have some funk of their own going, and it's fun right now to look forward to this intriguing and pivotal game. SP will remind us of the two previous meetings already this season, which were as funky as funky gets. But all sorts of funk has gone down in the meantime, for both teams.
The Funk themselves are, of course, December's darlings in the NBA: the funky month. The AI experiment unfortunately didn't work out--too funky!--but once it was resolved the Funk was able to get down a bit deeper into the groove, led by Funky Zbo.
Bottom line: Memphis is a very funky .500, 18-18, and the surging Clippers are 17-18, looking to reach the same level and bring down the Funk just a little bit. It's December's Funky Darlings versus February's Post-Inaugural Darlings: the New Adminstration.
If the Clips can bring their new focus and energy, they match up well against the Funk and should be able to do okay, but they're on the road. Hard to say what the Funk's homecourt advantage is like, since it's probably a surprise to most of the local Memphis citizenry that they have a good, funky basketball team. Remembering that their color man is the Dad from The Blind Side is another nice funky touch. But my guess is that BDavis sees another favorable matchup and he likes him some Funk. The Clips and BD are probably less excited to face Chris Paul and the Hornets on the road, and we'd all like to see them feeling funky, carrying the momentum forward into New Orleans.
Good game coming up: looking forward to it.
