Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

9. Marcus Camby, C, Clippers

Camby may be one of the hottest commodities on the list. Not only is he still a legitimate defensive force in the paint, but he also has an expiring contract. You get a player for the rest of the season and cap relief at the end. The biggest question isn't whether the Clippers could move Camby, it's whether the Clippers will move him. And as Marc Stein wrote this week, Blake Griffin's absence complicates the Clippers' calculations.

The team is positioned to have significant cap room this summer if they keep Camby and let his contract expire. Whatever offer they get for him will have to match or exceed what they believe they could get on the open market next season.

Note:

Camby is ranked #9 on the list of “Impact Players most likely to be moved.” Other players on that list of interest to Clipper fans. Caron Butler is ranked #4. Also, Tracy McGrady is mentioned, though he is on a second list of simply “expiring contracts.” He is ranked #2 on that list.

I hate these FanShots of the Stupid ESPN that you have to pay for, why put a link? Just copy and paste the article.

But to respond to this Post MC is not going anywhere but here to stay with the LAC.

I will not paste the whole article

Steve has commented numerous times that it is bad form. It is acceptable to give you an excerpt and a link. I decided to give you an excerpt for the stuff that mentions the Clippers.

Or you know I could have just given you nothing.

Stay classy

He doesn’t have to give you anything. If you want to read the content, pay for it. This might be a shock to you, but there are others who actually pay for content who appreciate a heads up when it relates to the Clips.

And beyond that, mwhite pasted the relevant portion. So what are you crying about?

by madglove on Jan 14, 2010 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

OK, so why this post again? Why the Link?

if you could of gave nothing and can’t give the complete article but gave only the part pertinent to the Clippers why the Link other then you work for ESPN and want to recruit new subscribers?

I am not crying just stating that why put a link to a Money Hungry Site like ESPN Insider?

Money hungry?

they (ESPN) spend tons of money hiring writers (like KA) so we can keep up with teams. Its just business, if you think its worth paying for then do so, if not don’t complain about it. What Mwhite provided was good stuff, if you want more then cough up a few bucks for it (ESPN insider is definitely worth the low cost if you pay for the annual price).

Entitlement Idiots

I actually thought it was somewhat overstated by old folks, but I guess I was wrong.

I’ve truly never met someone so dense that he would take something someone did as a FAVOR and bitch and moan about it.

If you’re too poor to afford to pay for Insider, then that’s too bad. You should be grateful that mwhite even put up the part we should even care about. He didn’t need to do anything.

Stop your crying.

Their are guys on this blog while negative and annoying sometimes feel that they
have to put their two cents in A plus b conversation. Just do like me and don’t read
the crap the espn insiders write because most of the times its negative towards
clippers and their fans.

HVYDRT007

- your bugging me at this point. The fact that mwhite was nice enough to even provide a little insight on an article to inform us on inside info of the Clippers are enough. I don’t see why you went on attack mode and went off to accuse mwhite to working for ESPN because he shouldnt be putting up an whole article. The thing is Steve has stated many times he dislikes us posting whole articles, but highlighting is fine. The sad thing is this isn’t your first time accusing something on someone, such as accusing people of being Laker fans, being EXTREMELY pesismistic, and now mwhite working for ESPN. It’s like your bipolar. Please learn to deal with your emotions.

Hmmmmm...

Time to stop, I think.
Rationally, I dislike the ESPN PRO, and would like them to be rid of it, but it is NOT mwhite’s fault. Consider that if mwhite posts the whole article, then now it is available for free. Once that happens, only one person needs to bother buy ESPN pro and supply it to everyone. There goes a portion of ESPN’s revenue.
Consider Steve, the blog, and the other citizens. Steve told you to stop earlier on. Blog protocol has been repeated many times. The other citizens are rallying to back up mwhite here.
Mwhte was kind enough to show us the main, relevant hightlight of the article. With the childish whinings you put up, it makes it not worth it for him to post. Then you lose the portion of the article you get, as do the rest of us. Keep your emotions and insecurities about other citizens in check for the sake of the community.

To try to steer it back on topic...

I only see one trade out there I’m liking right now.

Most of the expirings and Thornton for C. Butler and Jamison.

Makes the Clippers better now and leaves the Clippers with a solid lineup for next year with options to dump expirings each of the next two years if something is available.

Actual trade: Camby/Collins/RDavis/Thornton/Smith for Jamison/Butler. I would give the Wizards the option to dump Crittenton for part of the Randolph trade exemption if they wanted to wash their hands of him too if that makes the trade happen. Throw in $3M to help the Wizards buy out or waive Stevenson, and they are pretty close to Gilbert Arenas and a clean slate next year. Or since it looks like Arenas is getting a felony, maybe an absolute clean slate.

No draft picks either way. The Clippers are allowing the Wizards a total reboot.

Correct me if I'm wrong

but we can’t include the Randolph TE in another trade. What I think we can do is trade for say Dorell Wright with the trade exception and then trade Wright (expiring contract) in a separate deal. We should pick up a pick from the Heat for that (they save about 10 million by dropping Wright). There may be restrictions on how soon we can trade Wright though.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jan 15, 2010 1:29 AM PST up reply actions

Its not included in the trade

They are two different trades. The big one and then the other one for Crittenton.

You are correct that it can’t be included as a bundle.

by John R on Jan 15, 2010 10:34 AM PST up reply actions

Yup I rather like this deal

Im sure there are those who are not in love with the fact that Antawn Jamison has 2 more years left on his deal, but it doesn’t bother me one bit. For one thing, I have no problem bringing along Blake Griffin slowly (I didnt see why we couldn’t have done this with ZBO, but I wont go there). Plus, MDSR seems to believe that Blake can give us minutes at the 3 (provided hes healthy). Furthermore, if ZBO taught us anything its that moving talented offensive power forwards is not all that difficult.

From a basketball standpoint, the thought of having 4 current/former all stars in the starting lineup is a wonderful thought (Im lumping Kaman into that group since I believe he will make the all-star team this season),not to mention EJ at the 2, who most of us agree has that potential. Most importantly, we have an unselfish point guard who is capable of leading a group of scorers.

Bench becomes Bassy, Sual, Novak, BSkinz, and DJ..and ultimately Blake Griffin. We are doing fine at the 1&2. The frontcourt could use a little help, but I think the bench becomes much less important when there arre that many talented guys in the starting lineup.

I like the deal, and I personally would have no problem throwing in a pick also. Go Washington Timberwolves.

Not true

There are way too many complaints about Telfair at the 1. I’m not one of them, but I do believe Telfair needs more mins to be effective. With that said, Telfair might not deserve more mins. but we can’t expect Telfair to contribute much with onyl 10 mins a game.

The second problem to me is that the 2 is terribly thin. After EJ, our backup sg is Ricky Davis and Mardy Collins. Not a huge turnaround backup, so if EJ is ever down, we might be looking at Ricky Davis to start. Oh and Sual can try and play 2, but never seen him as one.

Actually I think our forward & center position is actually VERY strong, especially with Caron Butler, Antwain Jamison, Blake Griffin, and Chris Kaman.

and not the commentary? So that we, who do not have insider, can take a look at what else is out there?
