Korolev in the D League
http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/gamelogs.jsp?player=yaroslav_korolev
KA put up YK's season profile yesterday, and it seems to be a juicy Cliptidbit. He's all of 22 years old now and maybe he's starting to figure out how to play basketball.
Looking at it a bit more carefully, I realize I was looking at it backwards--the early games are down at the bottom. So he had a run of 8 double-figure games after the opener, was getting to the line and did some rebounding too.
Fascinating. In some other universe, Shaun Livingston and YK are a potent Clipper combination.
I'd rather have Danny Granger of course.

Comeback Kid
THAT would be really cool. Here’s hoping.
Let’s dump Rush and Collins, and sign Livingston and Korolev.. What do we have to lose?

Korolev?
everything.
Livingston? It’s just like signing a player whom we don’t even know is capable of playing even 20 games.
We have everything to lose by signing Korolev?
How? By waiving a player that is not going to play for us for the rest of the season, and replacing him with a player that can play with us for the rest of the season?
Doesn’t make sense to me.

Let's take a look into somethings
How is Korolev preforming in the D-League?
Now lets compare him to Mardy Collins, whom I’m assuming your going to use to replace him with. Collins is decent in defense. Now lets put Korolev’s small frame and let him play defense. He was never known as a good defender, constantly letting his man beat him because his feet weren’t fast enough. Also, his small frame allows people to post up on him quite easily.
Let’s also compare their offense. Mardy Collins has none! Korolev? NONE ALSO! Sure he’s averaging 11 ppg, but in the DLEAGUE!!! I’m sure Collins can produce similar results himself.
Korolev has done nothing but disappointment. I’ve seen him mis wide open shots and layups way too many time. He was a worse pickup than Paul Davis.
If we were only signing Korolev, then waive Rush, but if we’re signing both Korolev and Livingston, then waive Rush and Collins…
- Korolev (who can play) is better than Rush (who can’t play)
- Livingston is an upgrade at PG, over Collins

Lets see:
I’m deeply disappointed in Korolev, as I had my hopes semi up on this kid. Aren’t their BETTER players out there for Korolev? Why are we aiming for Korolev to begin with? Because he was an ex Clipper? Why don’t we also resign Guillermo Diaz, Luke Jackson, and Dan Dickau also? I think there might be a reason as of why this guy is in the DLeague. And even though Rush can’t play, Korolev being ON the court might actually hurt our team more… I dont know just saying theres a huge possibility. Why don’t we aim for Von Wafer (sure he can’t seem to pass a physical if it saved his life) or Wally Szcerasdfg (assuming hes unsigned?) I don’t know if he’s signed or not, but I know he hasn’t played a game this season yet.
As for Livingston, sure he’s an upgrade over Collins AT PG, but how well is Livingston’s knees holding up? I like that he’s played in 12 games in one season, but it’s bad to have an oft-injured pg competeing with Bassy( who just got hurt.) Not to mention that at this point, Bassy is probably going to contribute more seeing that Bassy an Livi both can’t shoot, but Bassy is smaller and faster.
I’d like to see Livi back, but I don’t think waiving Collins justifies it, even though I HATE watching Collins play. Korolev actually does NOT deserve a second chance.. YET. Maybe when he has a speciality in something.. like shooting or defense.
Wally is a FA
Not that we really need him on the team.
Also if we are going to drop Rush, he has to be replaced with a good/decent 3rd String PG to replace Collins.
The argument of playable Korolev vs. unplayable Rush and then Livingston > Collins does not work because of a rule where we need 12 active players and 3 IR players.
Those 3 slots belong to Griffin and Rush for sure with the last spot is most likely BSkinz. If we waive the unplayable Rush and sign Korolev, then Korolev will be on the IR and will also be unplayable. This will then only result in use loosing money as we are force to pay BOTH Rush and Korolev, neither of which should play for the rest of the season.
The only reality of Korolev being playable is if Collins takes the IR slot and Korolev becomes active, but then that is saying Korolev > Collins. :pause for laugh:
In conclusion, if we waive Rush we are looking for a replacement for Collins, not Rush.
Point taken..
Definitely there’s much better talent, than Korolev, to be had, but it seems as though we’re going with JamesOn Curry from the D-League to replace Rush’s roster spot, so no sense in continuing this debate. I was looking through the D-League stats a couple weeks ago, and while I haven’t seen him play (and know nothing about him), Keith McLeod seems to have some pretty good stats, so he might make for a good backup PG.. His A/TO is one of the best in the D-League.

hard to believe he's 22
our first foreign player for the year would be nice though. Seems like every team has at least 1
we have a roster spot for a couple guys right? sign both of them please
we can’t dump Rush. That would be “bad Karma”
How so?
He’s going to be paid for the season, whether we keep him or not.. Might as well use his roster spot.

Its funny
I never really thought Korolev was as worthless as he was made out to be. He was certainly a project player, and he needed to mature physically, but hes 6-9 and has solid range. He definitely wasn’t ready to be a contributor while he was with us, but I always thought he would end up being an NBA rotation player. Maybe there’s still a chance, even if it is a few years away.
+1
i agree…i don’t know if he got enough burn to get him going…maybe mdsr wants to redeem himself and brings him back so he can say “i told you so!”

i dont think i have ever heard anything or read anything of what koralev said
not sure if it was a language barrier problem, but for a lottery pick who was on the team for a couple of years, i would like to hear some of his thoughts on basketball
I can't believe this guy is only 22.
It seems like forever since I’ve seen him, I thought he would’ve been pushing 30.
I've got nothing.
Dude was 17-18 when we got him in 2005.
It does seem like forever ago, since the team has changed so drastically since then, and he hardly ever played. He was kind of like our human victory cigar, just without the victories.

During the summer league
I saw Korolev with the Knicks, except the game I saw he never came off the bench. He was easily the thinnest person on either team. He was the first one warming up, and he didn’t strike me as someone who could play in the NBA.

no dude, the only guy he talked to was Nikoloz Tskitishvili, and it was in Russian, I think
lol

Crazy to think
What would’ve happened w/ Granger.
No way we get Gordon or Griffin, but maybe there would’ve been some other crazy combination of players. There were some great late picks in both of those drafts.
Never understood that.
Dunleavy is not the only one who passed on Granger.

I think about that sometimes too...
We would, most likely, have an entirely different roster.

Korolev is...
and will always be a colossal waste of a draft pick. The Clippers were much much better off just trading the damn pick back them. Not only did they pass on Granger, the list doesn’t end there, no no no!
Productive players drafted after Korolev (some really good): Granger, Antoine Wright, Hakim Warrick, Nate Rob, Jarrett Jack, Francisco Garcia, Jason Maxiell, Linas Kleiza, David Lee, Brandon Bass, Ronny Turiaf, Monta Ellis, Louis Williams, Andray Blatche, Ryan Gomes and Marcin Gortat. Any of the mentioned woulda been, well, much better.

ouch!
don’t bring up David Lee or Monta. it stings too much. i second the return of dan dickau. we don’t have enough goofy white guys on the team.
So umm...Korolev got traded to Reno
