With all of the big names in the upcoming free agent market it would be tempting to sell the farm to acquire a big name. However, it is my opinion (I may be alone here) that we do not need a big name free agent to compete for a playoff spot or possibly even a championship next season. The starting five of Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, Rasual Butler & Eric Gordon are 9 and 1 this season and with the addition of Blake Griffin we will have one of the best lineups in the NBA. While other teams are putting all of their eggs in LeBron basket the Clippers could improve dramatically by resigning Rasual Butler, Marcus Camby and even Craig Smith and deepening the bench. Players such as Steve Novak, Mardy Collins, Brian Skinner, Kareem Rush and Sebastian Telfair are all below average reserves and should be upgraded. The upcoming free agent market is deep and if we ignore the big name acquisition and instead work on improving the holes in our bench this team could really prosper.
