I saw this coming about a month ago... Watching summer league, I couldn't help but notice Deandre Jordan's offensive speciality a powerful alley-oop about about a dozen times over. To me, its seems he hasn't progressed much since his rookie year. Most Deandre Jordan expectations by the start of year three have him at being the back-up to Chris Kaman. I don't think he's at that point yet. His defense and offensive repertoire isn't quite where it needs to be yet. I'm not closing the door on Deandre just yet, I'm just saying that he's not ready yet to be the indisputable back-up to Chris Kaman.
The front office have brought in a few camp invites that kind of seem to perplex me. First, there's Jaron Collins. A 31 year old 6'11" 250lb Californian with a career average of 4pts, 3rebs, 0.8 assists, 0.2 blocks at 16.3 minutes per game. I just don't see the allure here. He's a little too old to be a part of an uptempo offense. All though he played for an uptempo Phoenix last year he only averaged an inconclusive 7.7 minutes a game behind Robin Lopez and Amare Stoudamire. The only positive I see is that his body may be pre-conditioned from running in a Phoenix practice all season last year?
Next up, Jake Voskuhl. He's a 32 year old 6'11" 255 lb PF/C that doesn't seem to offer much in the way of statistical dominance or anything impressive that would make me do a double take or make me think that I would want him on my roster. I did notice one thing... That this guy is the same as Jarron Collins. An early thirties 3rd string Center thats been on a few rosters who never averaged more than double digits on points and rebounds or single digits in rebounds or steals.
I can't think this is it. Is this all their is? I'm not sure why we haven't been able to bring in Louis Amundson or Anthony Tolliver (when available), Earl Barron, Pops Mensah Bonsu, anyone from Europe, undrafted college prospects....
I just can't figure out why it would take this long to figure out an obvious positional need and now that we realize it have we missed out on quality big men that would have worked best for us?
