Trade Idea: How about Deng?

The rumors are swirling as it gets closer to the trade deadline, and one rumor says that Chicago might want to unload Luol Deng so that they have more cap space this summer...

There have been talks that they want to move Tyrus Thomas also.  What do you guys think of this trade..

Marcus Camby + Rasual Butler + Lottery Protected 1st Round Pick

for

Luol Deng + Tyrus Thomas

Trade Machine:  http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ylh98dk

Luol Deng is a decent outside shooter, a decent defender, and has great size for an SF (6'9").  Chicago gets cap space + a 1st round pick (eventually LOL).  I'm on the Iguodala bandwagon, but what do you guys think of this one?

this would pretty much give Chicago enough money to get both Lebron and Wade (as long as Salmons opts out)..

Yikes!

Noah
Gibson
Lebron
Wade
Rose

Salmons

is unlikely to opt out. The Bulls would love to trade him and Hinrich for Ray Allen to clear out that cap space.

I'd pass

Deng isn’t a particularly good 3 pt shooter, his defense is average, and the way his game took a giant dump after he was given a huge contract makes me question his desire.

I think the Clips need to particularly avoid players who have had questionable work ethics on other teams. History tells us that if you can’t get motivated when you’re getting paid a ton on another team, that sure as heck isn’t going to improve when you join the Clips.

Compared to everyone on our roster...

He’s a major upgrade from 3.

Couple questions ...

1) If you’re a superstar, does the prospect of going to Jordan’s old team, playing in his shadow and beneath his ginormous jersey, appeal to you? Or work against the whole thing.
2) League/Union agreement expires next summer. Owners are making noises about reducing the amount players can make in total, which will affect individuals, So, it’s quite possible that max contracts signed this summer will be albatrosses after that; for example, if Lebron gets ~$20 million/year, and there’s a hard cap of, say, $65 million — where does that leave your team for the future?
Issue being, this is like a game of chicken; everybody wants to go all in, but if you do, and, say, something goes wrong like an injury — you’ve stepped in a big, stinky, sticky pile. And it might even be on fire.

i wanted to trade kaman

That makes more sense to me since we will have to pay kaman some huge dollars when he’s contract is up.And we let camby finish out he’s deal.Seeing that deng is only 24 and he’s contract won’t go past 14 million a year (it’s 10 right now)i think having him on the team would help.

If you have Lebron, it hardly matters.

If there’s a hard cap, every team in the league has the same restraints. Lebron at $20 mil a year is well worth it no matter what the cap situation is.

Well for Wade

He’s from Chicago, so the Heat should be very worried that he leaves.

If they trade Hinrich and Salmons, the Bulls could add Wade and Boozer/Amare.

SG – Wade
PG – Rose
C – Noah
PF – Boozer or Amare
SF – Deng

That looks like a ridiculously good starting 5 to me. At least offensively, they might have issues on defense.

Pretty good idea here

although I’m impressed with madglove’s counter-argument.

One thing in it’s favor, over the recent Iggy trade proposal (see FanShots), is that we wouldn’t have a sudden hole at the 4 spot. We’d also get to keep DJ here. On the other hand, Deng has looked ho-hum whenever I’ve watched him this season.

I’d rank this trade 2nd behind the Iggy trade, given all the ideas we’ve seen on this blog this season. Coming in 3rd would be Camby and AT for Butler.

BTW, take that draft pick off the table

If Chicago wants so much cap space, then make them come and get it.

It's lottery protected..

So when we give up the pick, we will have finally made the playoffs, and the pick would be 15 or later.. I think it’d be worth it in the trade, especially if we can make the playoffs in 2012, we’ll still have Minnesota’s pick (which will hopefully/probably be a top-5 pick)

One benefit of Deng over Iguadala

is he’s 3 years younger even though they both have roughly the same left on their deal (4 years after this one.)

I actually like both Deng and Iguadala. I just hope the Clips make a move for one of these talented SF’s.

I prefer Iggy

Has made some clutch plays in his young career, is regarded as the superior defender, has more leadership experience and he is probably the better 3 pt shooter (Deng actually has a higher % but shoots very few 3s). We’d also have 4 players who should be excellent at playing the passing lanes (Baron, EJ, Iggy and BG) on paper, maybe this translates into a more uptempo game.

I prefer Iggy too because of his all around game...

but this is possibly another option..

Count me in as well

I prefer to make a deal now than wait for the off-season.

We need to go out and get the guy we want, thus enabling us to keep the rights to our free agents.
