Are we tanking?

Yahoo sports had a nice little article about tanking. Of course, the Clippers were mentioned It's the part of the season that makes the NBA interesting. If your not in the playoff running, you should go for the higher draft pick. Last year the Clippers were doomed from the start. This year we saw great potential(beating the Nuggets, then the last two years champs with the Celtics and the Lakers). So we know they could still win games here on out. However, would that do any good? The interesting thing about this year is, you have to balance potential with a high draft pick because you still want to sign someone in the offseason and that won't happen unless you can tell these free agents that our team has potential to win a championship. Its all about choosing your battles. A big time draft pick or a big time signing...
I don't think we are gonna get Lebron James and John Wall. What would you guys want??
I personally do not think Lebron would come to LA. I know this has been discussed many times before. So its not about any player in particular. Just what would help us more in the long run. A big free agent signing or risking a free agent signing for a chance at a good draft pick.

Were not really tanking
we’re just not very good. You can argue that trading Camby and Thornton for Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and Drew Gooden hurt us short term but I don’t think its outright tanking. Now if EJ, Baron, Kaman sit out the rest of the season at some point to some minor injury then we can argue we are tanking.

Actually I thought about it some more
We can’t be tanking as we’ve been doing this for over 25 years so this is just Clippers basketball. Those 4 crazy years where we went to the playoffs were example of when we ended up tanking by being moderately successful. You see when your team is decent you actually have to sign your players to market value contracts and then your costs go up but your profits go down.

My two cents
I think we lost a lot of the chemistry we had built with that team of BD, EJ, Rasual, Camby, Kaman. The new guys are pretty good, but nothing beats chemistry.
I really miss those passes by Camby from the top of they key to a wide open Kaman. Good times.
Also, we suck at defense even more now. We were at least respectable before.

I don’t miss him missing wide open 20ft jumpers, being completely useless in the pick and roll (since he can’t roll), putting up gaudy offensive rebound numbers mostly due to extremely difficult missed tip ins which are less efficient than just bringing the ball down, not boxing out and letting opponents grab rebounds because of not boxing out even in a bad position to rebound… IMO I love the way Camby played hard all the time, but his style of play is very selfish when you look closely

Seriously, though, I think Erik O is largely right about the team chemisty, including our defensive cohesion. When Camby was around, I usually felt like we had a chance in games. Some of that is just correlation w/o causation: we were still shooting for the playoffs back then. But I miss Camby’s long arms, and I bet Kaman does too.
On the other hand, I really liked DJ last night. Hallaluya, a reason to watch the games!

Right....
so overrated we’ve gone 4-12 since we’ve traded him. Or that we give up over 100 points in 12 of those 16 games? He was hardly overrated, if anything he was underrated.

I always did hate the wide open jumpers he took that never ever had a chance of going in. I didn’t really think about the ugly tips = offensive rebound thing. That is true though. I never thought of it that way. I agree with every word you have said though. Especially how I loved his hard play.

We are not intentionally losing. The Yahoo article was more about how DTS’s moves have been all towards tanking and gearing up for next season.
it would be ironic if we were accused of tanking and got LeBron
John Lucas admitted that the Cavs intentionally loss to get a better shot at getting LeBron in the draft.

When you have nothing to play for most times you don’t play as hard.
Not Tanking, We Suck
Tanking involves playing young guys over better old guys. If DJ and Brown were playing 30 plus minutes instead of Davis and Gooden/Kaman, that would be tanking. I think Hughes really wants to win, he doesn’t know how.

They (Clippers) need to move fan appreciation month to like November or December
When the team is still in the hunt, if at least!
In part, though, I get why they do it in March, because if anyone in March is still supporting and rooting for this sorry ass team then that “anyone” has to be appreciated for putting up with a bullshit season!!!!
BTW, the game tomorrow will be on ESPN. Oh, yes, you KNOW ESPN is LOVING this!!!
Now don’t get me wrong. I feel for this team, I am a fan, but, damn, this season has been a roller coaster, as in I just had all you can eat sushi until I couldn’t even walk yet I still get on the roller coaster only to throw up over everyone, thus giving everyone the heaves. Gross.
