Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

I don't know any more about this than you guys do. The press release was sent out around 5:30, Milph seemed genuinely caught off guard during the broadcast. I am in class from 7 PM until 10 PM, so I won't even have a chance to reflect on it until later.

Khughes just was interviewed by Dain and said that was the first he heard of it.

Is Kim next?

Kim is surely out during the offseason as head coach

not sure if the team will keep him on as assistant coach. Normally the new head coach picks out the rest of his staff but sometimes they retain some of the assistants. I don’t see the team removing him during the season though, there really isn’t a point now.

"Severed Ties" is 'Corporate Speak' for

Dunleavy tried to receive assurances that the Larry Brown rumors were false and, AT LEAST, Dunleavy’s GM position was secure…and Sterling, couldn’t wouldn’t, didn’t…

by laknights on Mar 9, 2010 6:56 PM PST reply actions

That is plausible

Larry Brown

Can someone post a link regarding Larry Brown? I’ve yet to see an article supporting this theory, just heard a bunch of random people including clipper Darrel say it’s a possibility.

by The Blake Griffin Era on Mar 9, 2010 7:48 PM PST up reply actions

Might be too coincidental

That Larry Brown is mentioned and then Dunleavy is gone. This makes me nervous. The return of Brown smells too much like the old days.

by Jonee on Mar 9, 2010 7:02 PM PST reply actions

I'd have to agree

But the timing is odd given that the Bobcats are still in the playoff race (and won a big one tonight).

by madglove on Mar 9, 2010 7:03 PM PST up reply actions

Dun was fired
ChrisMannixSI

An NBA source tells SI this was an outright firing. Dunleavy was not looking for a way out, was gearing up for free agency.

WojYahooNBA

Agent who talked to Dunleavy in past several days says he was planning for free agency, draft and no sense he was gonna get whacked.

There’s absolutely no evidence that Dun wasn’t making decisions up to now.

by madglove on Mar 9, 2010 7:03 PM PST reply actions

LOL

I guess if you believe that what MDSr tells the writer is “evidence”

"[Fans are] not technically a lot of times savvy. They don't understand and they don't weigh issues the way that [I] weigh them."
Mike Dunleavy, Sr.

by Jax on Mar 9, 2010 7:09 PM PST up reply actions

And what are you basing your belief on?

Absolutely nothing. I mean c’mon Jax, you talk about evidence and preconcieved notions, when it’s pretty obvious that YOU are the one without a shred of evidence to support your claim that Dun had no control.

If you want to have a civil, intelligent discussion, please help me out and at least tell me what you’re basing your position on. Did you make it up? Is it mere naked speculation?

Give me something and then we can have a real conversation.

See my post in the other thread

I think you’re making assumptions here.

by Jax on Mar 9, 2010 11:43 PM PST up reply actions

Not trying to argue w/ you either

I simply asked for you to back up your conclusory statements with some support. If your position is that you have “ties within the organization” then at least that’s something. It’s just unreasonable for you to make those kind of conclusions and not expect people to ask “where are you getting that?”

If it was a sham this whole time, then Dun didn’t likely know about it. And it’s strange because the org clearly didn’t help him “save face” today. So why not just fire him completely to begin with (which is what I said they should have done)?

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming days/weeks to shed light on the timing.

by madglove on Mar 10, 2010 12:33 AM PST up reply actions

Why would they wait until after the trade deadline?

Not that he royally screwed up the deadline (he obviously didn’t) but why give him such a long leash with personell?

I’m guessing DTS saved some money in this. He didn’t pay Dun the full amount.

hahahaha

I used to think the ‘curse’ moniker, lazily thrown at too many franchises in all sports right & left, was misapplied to the Clippers like all of the other franchises. But no, i honestly think the only valence to the claim of a cursed franchise is this franchise. The coach is god knows who, and apparently not a fan of the makeup of the team since he prefers fast-paced squads/requires a personnel makeover of some degree in order to be to his liking, the GM is out, again, the ownership is infamous, the star player is chronically disappointing in running the offense for a host of reasons his fault and the fault of schemes that don’t mesh with his style, the best big man & contract was given away for spare parts and money, and pretty much only e. gordon consistently seems to avoid the shi*show. Of course i like the blog and want the clippers to win, but it’s like the worst kind of Sisyphean drama

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Mar 9, 2010 7:13 PM PST reply actions

Not sure it has been Sisyphean

I mean, Sisyphus would occasionally get the boulder close to the top of the hill. The Clippers mostly sit next to the boulder at the bottom and drink Ouzo.

MDSr was getting a bit difficult to look at. Especially in HD.

Him and SamIAm made for some weird camera shots of the bench.

Anyway I’m going to a bar now. Pour out a little liquor for your fired homie.

From what is sounds like from the reports

Oshley was really the GM and he was the guy people called to make deals. So maybe the clips figured that there is no use keeping Dun around if Oshley has been acting as a sudo GM for most of the season.

That's consistent with what I have believed for some time - where are you seeing these reports?

The Press Release implies it...

And Kevin’s post on True Hoop sort of spells it out.

I'll read that - the ESPN articles strongly imply it as well

So it’s Olshay who’s won the power play. I think they were just keeping him around these past few weeks to do him a favor.

Nice line

The article ends on an interesting line:

“The Clippers have placed themselves in a unique and advantageous position. Last month, they signaled that there’s a potential opportunity for a top free agent to name his own coach. On Tuesday, that hypothetical was extended even further — name your own coach and general manager.”

Who will you rip now Jax?

MDSr took the Clips to the playoffs for one year…those were great days to be a Clips fan…and I am thankful for that. He was a solid guy…it’s sad to see him go. You will bring up his .400 winning percentage, etc, but it was probably the summer of ’08 that did him in at the end. Signing Baron was a devastating mistake that probably cost MDSr his job.

Jax who tore ZBo a new one, then MDSr traded him away and you still did not like him. Exactly what do you want from the guy? MDSr is right…sometimes fans are not technically savvy. I sorta wised ZBo stayed around so he could prove you wrong. Let’s say Lebron doesn’t come…what moves would you want? Rudy Gay? or a rag tag team of Drew Gooden, JJ, etc?

This is going to be my team, and we're going to rise together.

Clippers were terrible before Baron joined the team

We had one good season and the following didn’t even get to .500 falling one game short the teams focus was shot and that is why Sam bolted to the Celtics to get a ring. Don’t kid yourself the team was in trouble regardless the crap way Sterling and Dunleavy handled the Brand and Davis signing was a our down fall. Main reason Baron signed here was to play with Brand and we couldn’t lock him up and Baron couldn’t back out of his hometown.

by KillaClip on Mar 10, 2010 12:15 AM PST up reply actions

Wow, you're bitter

I am very pleased that my team, the Clippers, have taken the positive step of relieving a nonperforming coach of his duties.

You’re sad to see him go? Seriously

Signing BD was his only mistake?

MDSr was a poor coach and a bad GM. That’s why he’s gone. No, I don’t like him.

This is long overdue. Oasisman, we are both Clipper fans. Let’s hope the team continues on the current path and hires a coach and a GM which will help them move to respectabilty for the first time. Now is not the time to fight.

Alright...

Trading ZBo for what eventually became Smith and Telfair was kinda a mistake…because we would have been better this yr with ZBo obviously.

Since you have a conciliatory tone today, we will take this up in the future. According to the press email, the Clips seem to be claiming unlimited financial spending now. Perhaps DTS has realized his own mortality. DTS has owned the team for 20+ yrs now and he’s no spring chicken. Perhaps he wants to win a championship to cap off his life. Will he spend like the Clips are the Knicks in the early 2000’s? Who knows…only time will tell.

This is going to be my team, and we're going to rise together.

lol

To think Blake Griffin is goin to learn a whole new system in the NBA it’s kind of exciting. It’s kind of crazy how we don’t know what to expect we don’t know if we are going to be strong on offense and weak on D or vice versa. We don’t know if the knew GM will try to build through the draft by making deals or will he thorw everything into free agency . It’s crazy. More exciting then the baron signing offseason because we knew how the show would mostly be run we just didn’t know the players it’s kind of the same thing here we don’t know who is going to be our SF, how ill Blake Griffin play in the NBA, who will fill out the Clippers bench, who will be our 2010 draft pick and will he taking a starter spot, what will be the system, will we be a team built by the GM on power or speed it’s crazy.
