Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

What is Roger Lodge Smoking?

On the Sports Lodge this morning on 830 AM, Roger Lodge is just about as sure as he can be that Phil Jackson will "walk across the hall" at Staples and become the coach of the Clippers next year. And guess who he'll be coaching. None other then Lebron James! All because of that vague statement Jeannie made about Phil's future coaching plans.

Yes folks, I'm sure that Phil and Jeannie will be having many romantic conversations in the bedroom after that happens! And you know that Phil wants more than anything to be working for his favorite owner in all of sports, DTS! And I'm sure he can't wait to teach guys like Chris Kaman, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, and Baron Davis the finer points of the triangle offense! Not to mention getting Lebron to buy into it.

Well...

if DTS did pony up the cash to get Phil Jackson then he would prove his statements earlier as true… but given the 25+ years of empty promises we have reason to be skeptical. If it happens though the Clippers would be legit title contenders.

Funny

Phil has worked with crazy players in the past – why not a crazy owner?

Reinsdorf and Krause

could arguably be crazy owner and gm that he’s worked with.

i still think the Bulls could’ve won at least two more had the team not been broken up.

by banandy on Apr 30, 2010 11:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Really?

The last Bulls team barely won, MJ was 35, Pippen was 32-33 and Rodman was 36. They could have won 2 more if MJ didn’t retire for 1.5 years to go play baseball but even MJ was slowing down considerably at 35.

I think so

The following year it was Knicks vs Spurs – Bulls vs Spurs. You could make an argument that the Spurs could beat the Bulls one year later, but the fact remains that the year prior, the Bulls swept the regular season series 2-0 (against Tim and David).

Now, the next year is where it gets intriguing. The Lakers won, but I doubt they would’ve even gotten to the finals if they didn’t have former Bulls Phil Jackson or Ron Harper on the team. If that were the case, then the Portland Trailblazers would’ve gotten there…oh wait, that team had Scottie Pippen (and MD Sr, hehe)! Maybe the Jazz (who got bounced by the Blazers?)…if that were the case, we already know what the Bulls would’ve done to them.

Trust me, the Bulls would’ve won at least two years.

by banandy on Apr 30, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

And no. MJ was not slowing down at 34.

His numbers show dominance in that final year – comparable (or better) to Kobe’s numbers for the past three seasons.

by banandy on Apr 30, 2010 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions

That just points out Kobe is overrated

MJ saw his PER dip to 25.2 that year, the lowest PER for a full-season since his rookie year.

I agree the Bulls would have won the two years when MJ was playing baseball assuming they found an adequate replacement for Horace Grant.

FU*K THAT!

I don’t want any Laker hand-me-downs on the Clippers! Don’t care who it is. But I will take some Cav, Heat, Raptor and Hawk hand-me-downs.

Technically, he'd be a twice-removed Bulls hand-me-down.

LA is the Clippers' city, the Lakers just play in it!

PJax

is wildly overrated. Well, he’s only good at one thing and one thing only: managing egos (and he fails often w/ Kobe). My theory is that it’s because he’s tall and physically doesn’t have to stare up at his players to give instructions (ahem JVG) so they actually listen to him.

The triangle wasn’t even his creation. His in-game decision making is piss poor, especially end of games. The only ego on the Clips isn’t the super-duper star (MJ, Kobe, Shaq) that can take a team to the championship level, so why bother with an extremely overpaid PJax?

Maybe it's just a ratings scheme?

Lodge has to be what, the 3rd highest rated sports radio show in the morning (behind The Herd and Dan Patrick)? It’s all just sensationalism and an attempt to stir the Laker pot. I’m glad everyone here isn’t getting hyped about it.

by yaggiefresh on May 3, 2010 9:28 AM PDT reply actions

Isn't there a guy named Jim Rome?

I can’t stand how all his fans want to be his clone – so dumb

by banandy on May 3, 2010 10:27 AM PDT up reply actions

Yea there's Rome

But I was referring to those who are on at the same time as Lodge (morning show).

Rome’s rhetoric is insanely annoying. Hearing about his “clones” and Rome’s hypocritical dissertations of his guests (hate them one second then love the next) is tiring.

Then again there’s no one, and I mean no one, more annoying than John Ireland.

Lodge is a blithering idiot...

and I stopped listening about a year ago when 830 fired Dave Smith (who’s a good host, when his politics didn’t interfere). Lodge claims he likes the Clips, but he’s another idiot Laker homer, much like most of the sports media in this town. Obviously, I didn’t listen to the show, but I don’t think for a minute that Big Chief Opportunist would ever work for the Clippers, especially when he has the chance to marry Jeannie, and owns a piece of the Purple and Piss.

There's one sports talk show host that is more annoying than anyone.....

…that would be the idiot Colin Cowherd. This guy makes up totally inane generalizations about every imaginable subject as he goes along. And that voice adds to the stupidity. And he thinks he’s so smart. It’s just not listenable!
