Do the clippers have a scouting department?

I was just wondering if the clippers have a real department for scouting besides 2 guys. People that know what their doing and have a real feel for finding players. Like the golden state warriors scouting department or the spurs. I was looking at the history of the clippers in the draft (which is like every year) and they keep getting it wrong. I'm not even stating the horrible ones like kandi and the russian kid. But livingston, miles, taylor etc we have only really gotten the draft right 4 times trading for Elton Brand,Odom,Gordon,Griffin so if anybody knows more on their scouting department please shed some light.  I hope this is enough words

You can't criticize Taylor

because he was a second round pick so he was a zero risk pick, if he worked cool if not waive him. And I also don’t think Livingston was that bad of a pick because you can never predict an injury like that and even now coming back from injury he looks really good. As for Miles he was good when he played for us and probably would have had a great career if it wasn’t for the injury. So the only bad picks left are Koralov and Kandi, Kandi was a consensus number one pick in a very weak draft and pretty much every team would have picked him, and Koralov was a late lottery pick in another weak draft with the only good player drafted after Koralov and all the best talent was off the board by the time we got to him.

Was Kandi a consensus #1?

That’s not how I remember it. Weren’t we set to take Bibby before Elgin was overly impressed by Kandi’s workout?

He wasn't like a Griffin consensus number one

but most thought he was the number one pick.

Kandi or Bibby?

Most people thought Bibby was the more deserving pick (he had won a college championship). Here’s a mock draft in which the Clippers were projected to pick Bibby first overall.

Once again, why did Pierce slip all the way to tenth?

Here he’s projected 3rd, after all. That’s just nuts.

That's not even that weird

Dirk Nowitzki isn’t even in this mock draft. I know Pierce used this fall in the draft as motivation. Caron Butler also had a similar drop to a few years later.

Look at Korolev.

Just as we stupidly promised Korolev even though Danny Granger slipped, a lot of teams promised players that they would draft them. So Pierce slipped, due to thinking wings are easiest to pick up elsewhere and the promises sent elsewhere. In hindsight, he and Dirk should have gone 1-2.

I remember it as DTS being impressed...

He wanted the big guy. But everybody had as it one or the other.

the perks of being in LA

the Lakers had Shaq, and DTS does want to be like the Lakers…

:) It’s ok, if that logic upholds…they have Kobe, let’s go get LBJ :D

i was not talking about mike taylor

Im talking about mo taylor who played powerfoward i also forgot to put kaman and q up their.Q was great at the spot that he was taken at.

oh ok that is much diffirent

but I would say Kaman is a success seeing as he is one of the top centers in the NBA and Q is still a good player he just wanted way too much money.

Yes, but a deficient one.

Scouting head is a former soap opera bit actor. His assistant is a family friend of DTS. That’s about it, other than a few part-time regional scouts. In terms of what other teams employ, their resources and their qualifications, we are woefully lacking.

As far as Olowokandi, yes DTS is always enthralled by big men and wanted him. Baylor liked him as well. That was a LOADED draft (Bibby, Nowitzki, Vinsanity, Pierce, etc) and we went bust.

With the help of

Garnett and Allen (and maybe even Rondo, Cassel and Powe..)

Very true

But having 4-5 perennial all stars doesn’t happen every drat. Add in Rashard Lewis, LaFrentz, Larry Hughes and others and that was a great draft. Too bad Kandiman sucked.

Most of second round guys suck to

Not named marko jaric cause that just my be the best draft pick ever by the clippers seeing what he is going to bring in return. But what about drafting wilcox and ely in the same draft and trading the okafor for shaun livingston and to take pedrag drobjanaks salary. I could go on on and on like journey. It’s just sad that our best draft move ever was not drafting a player (blake has not played yet so i dont count him)
