Chad Ford's Mock Draft, Version 1.0
Los Angeles Clippers

Al-Farouq Aminu

Position: SF
Height: 6-8
Weight: 205
Age: 19
School:Wake Forest
Analysis: Aminu is one of the best athletes in the draft. The question is, what position does he play? If he continues to refine his perimeter game, he'd be a great fit next to Blake Griffin in the Clippers' frontcourt.

Ford had Wesley going to Washington

Philly chooses Aldrich, Detroit takes Davis. “The Pistons are high on Al-Farouq Aminu, but the last thing they need is another tweener after adding Austin Daye and Charlie Villanueva last summer.”

that's a good point

I don’t see them picking another SF with Austin Daye, Villanueva, Jerekbo, and Tayshuan.

Ridiculous Upside had us picking Xavier Henry

now that’s ridiculous

I kind of like Xavier Henry

Wouldn’t mind trading down to the 13-15 range to draft him if Wes and Aminu are off the board at #8. I see him as the second-coming of Michael Redd. Yeah yeah, we’ve already got Eric Gordon at SG. But Henry can play SF in a pinch, and IMO he’s the best player available after the Aldrich/Aminu/Wes/Monroe/Davis tier.

X Man

I like him too, I think he is a dark horse. I’d be happy to see the Clips take him, they need someone who can hit the 3 consistently.

by laknights on May 7, 2010 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I think Scott based that on my input...

Not that I said we wanted Henry, but I said the clear need was SF… in his mock, Aminu and Johnson were gone, and Henry looked like the next best SF I guess.

ah lovely :)

Be nice if this kid fell to us. I really don’t want to be stuck with only bigs on the board. Give me Wesley or Aminu.

Can’t wait for workouts!

Some consistency so far in draft predictions

ESPN and Draft Express agree that Philly and Detroid take the same bigs. The difference is over which SF the Wiz select.

I’d be happy with either wing, too. With Aminu and Griffin, damn, we’d have some serious athletes.

Yeah just have to hope both SF's are on the board when Washington picks and that neither Philly nor Detroit take a wing.

I can’t imagine they would. Philly needs a big, Sammy is losing popularity there….I think. And Brand isn’t who he used to be. What is they took a wing and looked to move Iggy though? Works if we’re the ones taking Iggy.

I forgot Sacramento was high in this draft. Jesus they’re going to be good with a top 3 pick.

by dulciusXasperis on May 7, 2010 10:58 AM PDT up reply actions

If Philly takes our wing, we might consider the big who falls to us

Whether Alrich or Monroe, that might give us leverage to do some version of the Iggy trade. Having too many centers can’t be such a bad thing, and I have to think that eventually we’d find a good trade for a strong wing.

After Wall, who do you suppose the Kings would pick?

Hmmm

If the 76ers ended up with Evan Turner or Wes Johnson, would they be willing to do a Kaman for Iggy/Dalembert trade? Or maybe the #8 pick for Iggy?

No on this

I wouldn’t even be that stoked if we had signed Iggy outright as a free agent at his contractual price but to have to include on lottery pick? Seems downright foolish.

Not sure how they feel about Hawes

but they’d be in line for Cousins. Could also pick up Turner and attempt to ty Evans as the point, though not sure. Beno with Evans at seemed to work out well.

If Johnson/Aminu were taken, what do you think of Gordan Hayward?

profile

it all depends on his ability to defend the SF slot…if he can’t, then he’s basically Steve Novak. But his comp is Mike Miller and he did come across as pretty scrappy player in the tourney who has three point range. He would likely never be an all-star though…

by banandy on May 7, 2010 9:20 AM PDT reply actions

Gordon Hayward is a big reach at 8

and plus he doesn’t seem that good. He didn’t really dominate that much and his jump shot isn’t that great.

That's cool

It’s just that my friend who watches college bball pretty closely thinks he’d be the best fit after Wes Johnson and better than Aminu when things shake out.

by banandy on May 7, 2010 3:34 PM PDT up reply actions

well you never know when it's all said and done

but as things stand now…..definitely not a top 10 pick. Maybe things will change during workouts.

Consensus is that best fit shouldn’t be used when selecting a player but rather best available if talent levels aren’t close. No reason to gamble on someone we could easily trade down for and get an additional player/future pick

I know, I know...

it’s just that this friend of mine is unusually good at discovering NBA talent before it happens…especially as it relates to fantasy basketball…

Well I'll be honest I don't know/haven't seen much of Hayward

but if he’s good enough to be picked top 10, it’ll show come workout time. Unless of course he’s a late bloomer. I’ll keep a look out for more info regarding him as the lottery shapes up.

Memphis Trade

If Aminu and Johnson are gone, we might be able to trade with Memphis and pick up the 12th and either the 25th or the 28th pick. Picking Hayward and the best available guard (Eric Bledsoe or Elliot Williams) could be a better value than picking the next Chris Wilcox at #8.

by ClipCat on May 10, 2010 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm warm to this, except

Memphis could probably use a pg, so they may also want Bledsoe. In your proposal, they’d be trading up for maybe Ed Davis, instead of settling for someone like Petterson. I’m skeptical that they’d want to give up a later pick (Bledsoe?) for what looks like a marginal upgrade. But one can always hope. Do you see it differently?

Well draftexpress has us taking Wesley Johnson

But at this point and time, it’s way premature to guess what the lottery will look like. Clearly the team order will not look like it does now, and players move and drop drastically after the one-on-one workouts.

I’m definitely on the best player available bandwagon in general.

If we could draft Johnson or Aminu and find a way to trade into the late first round and pick up Eric Bledsoe. The draft would be an A+ for me.

I'm beating my drum for late first rounder, too

I'd Love Aminu or Johnson

for the Clippers. But if the Clippers pick up a big with their lottery pick, which is not totally out of the question, it should be pretty obvious that Kaman will be on the move this summer for a SF.
