"Lebron to the Heat, it's a lock hes going to play with Dwayne Wade" Steven A. Smith. Heard this on Hartman and Friends.

these NBA guys are making these bold assumptions

I just turned on Around the Horn on ESPN and they say Lebron James is guaranteed to go to Chicago.

Yeah...this is just getting stupid

On Sunday, it was reported that “Lebron and Bosh to Chicago is a done deal”

I am not listening to any people at ESPN. I want to hear it from the player’s mouth.

I've been saying Miami all along

Rarely do I agree with Stephen A. Smith, but in this case, I think this is the best spot for LeBron.

Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

Miami just does not make sense

you can’t combine the two highest usage players in the NBA and expect them to still replicate their same stats. I think they are both better off staying apart and then trying to lure Bosh to join them who makes much more sense as a team mate for either star.

LeBron or Bust !!!!

by bestclipfan on Jun 28, 2010 3:26 PM PDT up reply actions

if you combine great players you don't expect for them to replicate their past stats

you expect both of their stats to go down, and the team wins to go up. I don’t know about you but I would love to have 2 above average defenders that on the offensive end can’t be guarded by anyone in the league.

You make it seem like it cant work, but I don’t see how it can’t. I always believe that the most talent wins 99% of the time.

Plus

by sharing the load, each will have something left for the playoffs.

Gotta have teammates. Nobody has ever won a title alone.

by mikey p on Jun 28, 2010 3:39 PM PDT up reply actions

its not really the issue of will it or will it not work...basketball-wise

the Celtics showed it to be possible as well as Team USA

…however

Team USA is on another level as they are only in for a summer and winning it for the country…no individualism

Celtics have 3 former high usage players….meaning they are on their decline so stats would go down anyways, but even more because they all sacrifice to get that championship

LeBron and Wade are still starting to get into the prime of their career where they (esp. LeBron) wants to have the best stats in history…he will forsure loose comparisons to MJ if he pairs with Wade. The only reason LeBron does it, is to win a championship now….but he still has a lifetime to achieve that WITHOUT Wade.

Don’t see anything good for Wade here except he can finally play more relaxed….he is rarely compared to MJ so he doesn’t really need the career stats…he already got a championship (with a finals MVP to add) so thats checked off.

Basketball-wise it can work and be devastating to other teams…but it will hurt their career stats as individual players (at least more so for LeBron…who is really the one making a decision on whether to play there or not)

by KidJustin on Jun 29, 2010 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

That is just so closed minded

LeBron is a facilitator first. Wade is a scorer. Both have had such high “usage” because of where they play. Neither had a reliable teammate to share the load/ball.

I think they will co-exist just fine.

Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

by mikey p on Jun 28, 2010 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

They could all relax some knowing that they have another great player to depend on.

USG% for 2009/10 Season
James: 30.9
Wade: 34.0
Bosh: 28.7

USG% for 2006/07 Season
Garnett: 27.4
Allen: 29.5
Pierce: 30.7

USG% for 2007/08 Season (1st in Boston)
Garnett: 25.5
Allen: 21.6
Pierce: 24.8

Allen, Pierce & Garnett were all used to carrying the load and coming up short. They were willing to sacrifice and it paid off for them. I guarantee you that Bosh would sacrifice for the chance to win after suffering in Toronto. LeBron is pretty much the most unselfish superstar in the league. He was 6th in assists behind the 4 best point guards (Paul, Williams, Nash & Rondo) in the league and Jason Kidd. For the longest, Wade has been begging for a legit pg to take some of the load off of him. He’d gladly defer imo. How many times have we seen him have an excellent game, but lose because his teammates were pathetic?

I have my doubts that their egos could make it work, but their egos are also what would make it work. Two top 3 players in the league (1st & 3rd) and a Top 10 player in Bosh? That is insane. They saw what Boston did in their first season together with their big 3 all being over the age of 30. They saw what stacked teams like the Lakers and Orlando have been able to accomplish in the regular and post season. The 3 of them could get together, not have to work as hard and be able to dominate the league for years to come. I’m sure they’d each love to have 4 or 5 rings before it is all said and done.

At least if he goes to Miami

he can say that winning was his priority.

Chicago also offers that exuse, but it’s a bit close to Ohio. Same division even.

Either of the NY teams are pure ego moves and will be frowned upon.

The Clippers are interesting because he could reasonably say winning was a priority, and also play the “save a franchise” card. Plus they are in the Western Conference, so he wouldn’t be playing Cleveland as often.

Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

by mikey p on Jun 28, 2010 3:45 PM PDT reply actions

The Nets isn't a pure ego move

They have some good existing players and they can give him a +1. Harris, Lee, Lopez and Amare is a good supporting cast.

Yi Jianlian to the Suns makes too much sense. S&T Amare for Yi.

It's more of a project than the Clippers

He couldn’t go to the Nets and say winning was first.

by mikey p on Jun 28, 2010 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Is it?

Courtney Lee has been to the Finals, EJ can’t even make the Dunk Finals. Is Baron really much better than Devis Harris? Is Chris Kaman better than Brook Lopez? Is Blake Griffin any more proven than Derrick Favors? Who will the Nets other free agent be? Is Avery Johnson a better coach than no one?

I hope LBJ comes here too but I think its sheer bias to consider the Nets a ego move and the Clippers somehow aren’t in the same boat.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jun 28, 2010 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Um yea..

because they traded their best player for a bunch of prospects. They won 34 games in back to back years before that. Sadly they won 9 more games than the Clippers the past 3 years.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jun 28, 2010 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions

The Clippers haven't had any player on their current roster other than Kaman for more than two seasons.

This Clipper team is totally different.

Our team with it’s current players would wipe the floor with the Nets current players.

I would think as a basketball fan and a CLIPPER FAN you would say the same.

by NBAFAN8 on Jun 28, 2010 11:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Current players from last year?

or this upcoming year? You realize we split the series last year right? Sadly the Nets won by the larger margin. Even sadder, the Nets played better than the Clippers post-all star break. They went 8-20 while the Clippers went 8-22. Wow… that stat is a doozy… I think a open bar at a Clippers game would kill me.

I actually agree with your rebuttal, Chuck

The Clippers and Nets starters are nearly a wash, but it’s the perception that matters.

Plus I don’t think LeBron is going to play for Avery. No way. I had forgotten he was their coach until you mentioned it.

Just wait until ESPN says LeBron to the Clips is a done deal.

Oh, wait, they won’t, because the Clippers are a west coast team that is not either the Lakers, Dodgers, or USC, so they don’t exist in ESPN’s world.

Clippers // Chargers // Rays // Panthers // Gators // Boise State
LA is the Clippers' city, the Lakers just play in it!

Reminds me of when DEN acquired AI and the issue was raised how they both could or could not co-exist offensively.

Stiill don’t see it happening. Which one becomes MJ and which one is Pippen? I’d argue Wade would be the Pippen, but MIA is his team (and last I checked LBJ has something of an ego, don’t see him as sidekick).

I think it’s incredibly interesting that we’re the lone Western Conference team to have something of a “serious” shot at LeBron (I’m discounting DAL, seems even more of a pipe dream than us). Can’t we play this angle up? At least if LeBron leaves, he would be doing the Cavs something of a service by at least changing conferences.

That's my point. A LeBron/Wade pairing is too flashy to work.

This isn’t like the Big Three in BOS (whose games complimented each other, and whose egos were hanging on by a thread – looking at you KG and Paul).

Wow, bad post (overall)

Wade would be Jordan, and LeBron would be Pippen. But they would be more like 1A and 1B.

Also, I would say Dallas has a better chance than the Clippers. The Mavs can put together an attractive sign and trade, provided that the Cavs are willing to facilitate it. I’m sure they will if it will keep LeBron out of the East (particularly Chicago).

The only thing that would totally kill LeBron to Miami is if Wade won’t agree to a pay cut.

Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

by mikey p on Jun 28, 2010 4:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Bad post?

LeBron wants to play in Dallas, why? Cuban is a great owner, but Texas? Get real. LeBron would be the Alpha Dog, that’s what I’m saying. He would not accept a lesser role on someone else’s team. 1A or 1B aside, he still wouldn’t be The Man.

Cuban is a great owner, Sterling is a bad owner

Isn’t that simple enough.

Plus the Mavs are planning on playing about 10 games at Cowboys Stadium. Marquee games, I’m sure.

If LeBron is the ego maniac you suggest he is, wouldn’t he jump at that chance?

(I only said “bad post” because you were wrong so many times. Nothing personal.)

Wrong on what exactly?

Can’t be wrong when discussing subjective issues. I still would like to know what you’re referring to.

I don’t “suggest” LeBron has an ego, if you don’t think he does, what league have you been watching? LeBron is also about media exposure, our market (with our past and present) is the only reason we’re even in the discussion.

He is right

But they can probably get LeBron, Wade and Boozer or Amare or David Lee.

Better, they can get Wade and LeBron and use the rest to fill out the roster.

ya but its rumored that they might take less so they can all play together

i doubt that though these players are for the money even though they say they’re not.
