ClipsNation FA Predictions

We're just a few hours away before things really get interesting (we hope), so I thought given all the rampant predictions, it would be a good time to get everyone on record.  What are your predictions for the top 10 FA's out there?  And most important, what's your prediction for the Clips?

Feel free to add any additional predictions beyond the top 10.

Star-divide

My predictions...

Lebron - Miami
Bosh - Chicago
Wade - Miami
Joe Johnson - Atlanta
Amare - New York
David Lee - New Jersey
Paul Pierce - Boston
Dirk - Dallas
Rudy Gay - New York
Boozer - Miami

Clippers - I honestly have no idea...if Doc Rivers hadn't agreed to come back, I'd say Pierce is a serious option.

I just don't see LBJ to Miami happening

ego is real and I don’t see Lebron going to Wade’s team. Someone will probably use the C’s as a counter example but all 3 of the big three were on the way down and LBJ is still on the way up. This is how I see it happening
Lebron:Clippers
Wade:Miami
Bosh:Miami
Johnson:Atlanta
Amare:Chicago
Lee: New Jersey
Pierce:Boston
Dirk:Dallas
Gay:New York
Boozer: New York

No, I think we'l definitely spend the money...I just can't predict what

We have nothing left to trade…but there are no free agents worth signing outside of Lebron and Wade.

I think they very well might throw a big contract at Paul Pierce.

We’ll sign Richard Jefferson just because no Clipper fan wants him. That’s how we roll.

We can ge tthe 3rd tier FAs

like Childress. I think worst case is we get Luol Deng.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jun 30, 2010 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm really not sure how much they're genuinely interested in Deng

Chicago couldn’t be asking for much right now right? If anything at all? Maybe they are.

It just seems like if the Clips really wanted him, they could have had him by now.

But like I said in another thread, maybe if it looks like they can really get LeBosh, they’ll be desperate enough to give the Clips money and a pick to take Deng.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 7:01 PM PDT up reply actions

The Clippers, if presented the opportunity, should demand Deng, Gibson, Johnson, and a first round pick for a conditional draft pick. The Bulls need to clear space. The Clippers should only be willing to help if something like that is offered.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jun 30, 2010 7:02 PM PDT up reply actions

That would plug a lot of holes

James Johnson and Taj Gibson both on rookie scale offer good value.

by big0lbad on Jun 30, 2010 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I like this

We should do that deal if we can’t get Gay, JJ, or LBJ.

It would be a stretch to think we could get Deng, Gibson, and James Johnson, but if Chicago wants to really clear cap space for two guys plus others they should do this in a heart beat.

LeBron or Bust !!!!

by bestclipfan on Jun 30, 2010 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Depends on the rest of the Celts

If they’re going into a big rebuilding phase around Rondo, which is possible due to KG being old, RAllen probably leaving, and a bunch of other FA’s they’ll probably lose (Brian Scalabrine!), PP won’t want to stay in that situation. The Clips are the best option for him in this situation.

Let’s call it “The Scalabrine Factor”.

by losbolts on Jun 30, 2010 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

JJ Redick

Is seriously underrated. He’s a great shooter and he’s gotten really strong recently. He’s actually a good defender and he can create his own shot. He’s also a high percentage FT guy.

by losbolts on Jun 30, 2010 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions

…But what does that have to do with him fitting here

He's a shooter

and he’s a capable defender. isn’t that what we’re looking for?

by losbolts on Jun 30, 2010 8:57 PM PDT up reply actions

LOL

Wouldn’t mind having him too, but to call him a good defender and someone who can create his own shot…let’s not go overboard here.

by bruin 95 on Jun 30, 2010 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know about you

But I watched quite a few Magic games this year. He’s evolved into a good defender and can create his own shot. He also has one of the top work ethics in the league.

by losbolts on Jun 30, 2010 9:13 PM PDT up reply actions

+1

I’ve been an NBA League Pass subscriber for many years. My impressions are that Redick is a liability on defense and can’t create his own shot. Would he be a good addition? Yes, but only at the right price. How much would you want to pay a guy who plays the #2 only, hasn’t show the ability to play the point, would play behind EJ and get maybe 15 minutes a game? Last 2 years in Orlando Redick averaged 22 minutes per game. He won’t be interested in coming to the Clips because it’s not a good fit for the Clips or him.

Wrong names

They tried for T-Mac and Grant Hill but were spurned. They had Eddie Jones all but signed til he had a last second change of heart, like Hedo last year with Portland. Main problem is their team sucked.

With D.Rose and Noah, I don’t think Chicago will encounter similar problems this year.

The Bulls, if they’re smart, would attempt to go after Joe Johnson and Dirk Nowitzki instead of LeBron James and Chris Bosh. They need guys who can stretch the floor, don’t demand the ball every possession, and are able to be created for. Johnson and Dirk can be created for by Rose. He can make things happen. A team with Rose, Johnson, Deng, Dirk, and Noah would be pretty damn scary in the Eastern Conference since they can all score in a variety of ways and are active on defense. That’d be the best team in the East. I don’t think Miami – even with Wade, LeBron, and Bosh – would beat that Bulls squad.

by FlyByKnight on Jun 30, 2010 7:06 PM PDT reply actions

Nobody's going to bother going after Dirk

He’s not leaving Dallas. Too much invested there and too good of an organization.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 7:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh I know, I’m just speaking from a rationale standpoint. I think even David Lee would be a better fit for Chicago than Chris Bosh would.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jun 30, 2010 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions

How would Lee be a better fit than Bosh?

That’s crazy. Bosh can play with his back to the basket, and the Bulls need that more than anything else.

Well…more than anything else besides some guy named Lebron James.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Bosh is a high-usage player. Same with LeBron. They already have one of those in Rose. Three high-usage players on one team just won’t work. Lee can create his own stuff with rebounds and putbacks. Bosh likes to operate away from the basket. He’s not a great scorer inside. Bosh averaged 4.5 16-to-23 foot jumpers per game last year. He only averaged 5.9 shots around the rim per game. As good as Bosh is, he doesn’t really know where to play on the floor. I don’t like him as a player. I’m just not sold on him yet. At least Dirk is a great shooter to play 16-to-23 feet away from the basket. Bosh is just a solid shooter.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jun 30, 2010 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Is that assuming Lebron is there?

Since you said three high usage players, I’m assuming so.

Even if that’s the case, Lee’s lack of a real postgame makes him a less attractive option. Plus, you’re only focusing on one end of the court. Bosh’s defense is superior to Lee’s.

Honestly, I can’t see any team taking David Lee over Chris Bosh.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 7:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Bosh’s defense is superior to Lee’s but it isn’t by leaps and bounds. I’d take Lee over Bosh simply because Lee would come cheaper and provides nearly identical production.

Interesting how many think PP will be a Clipper

Makes a lot of sense…but ESPN radio just reported that Pierce is expected to re-up with Boston soon.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Expected? By who, other than ESPN?

I’ve had enough of those guys. The issue, as I see it, has little to do with Rivers. Has Boston said yet that they’ll sign him for four years? If they DO sign him, they will be over the cap with only 6 players, two of whom are well past their prime (not counting Pierce). The following year, at the moment at least, they’ll have only four signed (two past their prime) and still be over the cap. Can the Celts out-maneuver hard numbers? And does anyone really know where Paul would prefer to live? I don’t think anything is really decided.

Live?

He’s been in Boston his whole career. I’m sure he’s quite comfortable there. Not to mention that he’s a hero there after having won banner 17.

I mean, is it really a question that Pierce would resign with Boston if the money was right?

I think you’re right that Boston has a serious issue with the hard numbers though. We just have to see how much loyalty plays a role. Does Ainge have the guts to let Pierce walk? And how much would it cost the Clips to make that happen?

Keep in mind, we’re totally assuming the Clips even want Pierce. Hasn’t even been a rumor.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll rephrase

I think Pierce wants a contract extension on a team with good prospects. I’m sure he’d like to stay in Boston, but he might see LA as a close 2nd, which might be good enough when his other desires are factor in.

If Pierce wants a max deal, then I agree that’s a deal breaker for us. And yeah, we might not even be interested in the first place. But my narrower point here is that I don’t think Pierce’s resigning is a done deal. That sounds like some quick-trigger reporting/surmising based on Rivers’ return.

All I want for (early) Christmas

is LBJ to the Clips. I know that goes without saying, but I honestly think we have a shot. We’re one of the few teams he’s publicly acknowledged as an interest for him. As others have mentioned, we’ve set ourselves apart (with the exception of maybe Chicago) as a team that is already assembled and ready to contend.

With that said, here are my predictions:

LBJ – New York
Bosh – New York
Wade – Miami
Amare – Miami
JJ – Atlanta
Rudy Gay – Chicago
PP – Boston
Dirk – Cleveland
Childress – LAC
Lee – Chicago

Yes, NJ strikes out. Obviously, I’m currently praying that I’m totally wrong, and that my above paragraph is along the line of thinking that motivates King James to come West and raise our sorry asses from the dead. Viva Los Clippers!!!!

At least I'm also a Redskins fan... oh wait. My sports life sucks.

by Clipper T on Jun 30, 2010 9:03 PM PDT reply actions

Sorry, but this summer won't be what everyone had hoped for especially NY, NJ & LAC

Lebron – Cleveland
Bosh – Chicago (possibly Miami)
Wade – Miami
Amare – Phoenix
Joe Johnson – Atlanta
Rudy Gay – Memphis (they match a ridiculous offer her gets from NY, NJ or LAC)
Pierce – Boston
Dirk – Dallas
Lee – New York

I hope I’m wrong, cuz then it would be boring and another waste of many people’s time and hopes and dreams but we as Clippers fans are used to it so it won’t be a big deal for us. I think the 6th year is going to be too much for many players to pass up, especially Joe Johnson who left a team just for more money. Phoenix had a great year, Lebron won’t betray his entire hometown and state, Pierce will stay where he was drafted until he retires, same goes for Dirk and his obvious loyalty and love for Dallas. Wade is recruiting there and he may bring Bosh but Chicago has the better Center in place. David Lee will stay in state, whether NY or across the river in Brooklyn in 2 years.

We have Griffin, Aminu, Bledsoe, Warren as brand new fresh meat never played in the NBA players, plus we can bring over Sofo to join that group and hopefully pick up Childress (who Atlanta will not feel like they had to resign once the get Joe Johnson back), and maybe Rasual & Rhino & Reddick to be the 3 R’s to Round it out. I want some big time talent from this last but I don’t see them coming here no matter what we offer or how hard we try.

Joe Johnson sounds like the most likely choice right now. Just resigning with Atlanta for the max.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe so... Hmmm, what'll be the ripple effect?

I think NY will start to get desperate pretty quickly. W/o JJ, and assuming Lebron and Wade don’t come, they’ll then need to convince one of the free agent bigs to come on his own. Or, they may turn their attentions to Gay right away… but a 10 day waiting period, NOW? Egad, I don’t know what they’ll do.

Wade is moving on from Lebron too

Looks like Wade doesn’t think they’ll get him either and is going to focus on recruiting a big.

Yeah NYK is in trouble

There just aren’t any guards out there this year. A bunch of PFs though.

by madglove on Jun 30, 2010 9:31 PM PDT up reply actions

i really feel its Joe Johnson as well...

But I have a feeling it will be with New York, agreed upon tomorrow evening, after they meet with LBJ and it does not work out, with New York scrambling to save face and quick to contact Joe then securing up Boozer a few days later. Two guys who are all about their money.

by Takebb909 on Jun 30, 2010 9:40 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Yeah, NY ought to go after JJ immediately

It seems that a lot hinges on it.

Supposedly they are

They’re in LA to meet with him and his agent tonight. He’s their #1 target in order to be able to present a quality teammate for Lebron.

Lebron – Chicago
Bosh – Chicago
Wade – Miami
Joe Johnson – Atlanta
Amare – New York
David Lee – New York

If Lebron leaves

We really are THE ONLY TEAM that can offer a max deal with every position covered except for his. The next closest thing would be who, NJ? I don’t see him leaving, maybe I just wish one effing reporter would acknowledge that we are the only team with 1 glaring hole and that is Lebron’s position, leadership, game ending winner, defense, rebounder, passer, scorer, everyman!

Really, I would have thought all the dominos would have fallen by now

It’s been almost an hour, for crying out loud.

Heres my take

LeBron – Cleveland (6yr Max with 3rd year opt-out and no trade clause)
Wade – Miami (Max)
Bosh – Miami (Max)
Johnson – New York (Max)
Stoudemire – New York (Max)
Lee – New York (6yr / $75M)
Pierce – Boston (5yr / $70M)
Nowitzki – Dallas (Max)
Gay – New Jersey (5yr / $60M)
Boozer – Utah (Slightly less than Max)
M.Miller – Clippers (5yr / $50M)

Ugh

5 years 50 million for Mike Miller.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jun 30, 2010 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions

i used to be such a huge fan of Mike Miller

…but how old is he now, 90?? Juust kidding. He’s younger than me. What is he up to now. 3 years for 21 mil total.

Was reading around

but teams are looking to offer him more than the MLE. This is MADNESS.

FA in 2010.

yeah, no way miller gets that much for so long

Just over at ESPN, and I see that Minni really is talking with Gay

If they pick him up, that’ll be (count them) FIVE small forwards they’ve acquired since the draft.

Of course, they’ve also given up two, Gomes and Babbitt. They’re also talking about Webster as a sg, even though he isn’t one. …If the TWolves wanted a 2, why didn’t they take James Anderson at 16?

But my question is, does anyone have an informed opinion about Gomes? He’s getting some love on the TWolves’ page.

Gomes is decent

kind of like Rasual Butler except Gomes is more of a 3/4 tweener while Butler is more of a 2/3.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jun 30, 2010 11:57 PM PDT up reply actions

gomes

hes solid, pretty good shot actually, can stretch the floor a bit. if we really strike out, players like gomes, brewer, miller, childress should come to play.

but yeah, not much of an upgrade from butler as far as capability. id rather have brewer, miller, or childress.

I only care about the Clippers, and I see them getting shut out with all the big names.

And I’m praying, they don’t settle for someone like Paul Pierce. This guy is what, 32? He has played a lot of minutes the last few years, and I could just see him breaking down with us.

Please, no Paul Pierce.

I've got nothing.

by bc56274 on Jun 30, 2010 10:57 PM PDT reply actions

almost positive

that pierce will stay a celt now that doc is coming back. they’re not going to get better than pierce and hes too familiar with rivers and got too close to a title to leave. i think hes opting out to take a smaller, but longer deal that gives the celts some money to get another player combined with the money from sheed’s money.

by shap on Jul 1, 2010 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions

seems as though

…Pierce opted out for a longer contract that Bos wasn’t wanting to do, coupled with the fact Doc was determined gone, he was in uncertain territory then. He had to make a choice by yesterday to have freedom now in regards to the next several years. Doc coming back complicated it all.
-

On a different subject the Clippers to hold a press conference today.

…“Source?”

There, said it for you guys

The UK predicts......

Firstly, I’ll put up my clipper hopes. I’ll be honest, I’ve changed my mind a few times over this but I feel we won’t get LBJ (suprise). I’d like to pickup Joe Johnson but think he’s a complete money grabber that will stay in Atlanta for that reason precisely. I like the idea of Deng but that contract and his injury worries do scare me a bit.

So, I’d like the Clippers to complete their roster with:
Mike Miller,
Ronnie Brewer
Craig Smith
Sofo

It’s not the most fashionable list but would give us depth everywhere:
Kaman, DJ, Sofo
Griffin, Smith
Miller, Aminu
Gordon, Brewer
Davis, Bledsoe

As for the 3rd tier FA’s

Lebron – Chicago
Bosh – Miami
Wade – Miami
Joe Johnson – Atlanta
Amare – New York
David Lee – New Jersey
Paul Pierce – Boston
Dirk – Dallas
Rudy Gay – New York
Boozer – Chicago

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Lebron to the Clippers or Cleveland

I’ll make this quick:

Miami-Miami is Wade’s team and as long as he’s there, it can neve be Lebron’s.
New York-This team has NOBODY.
Chicago-That city will never embrace Lebron unless he wins 7 Championships.
New Jersey- The Nets could work but like the Clips, theyre second fiddle to NY but the Clips has a better roster.

He’ll sign w/ the Clippers because:
1) He wants to take on the challenge and winning here would definitely immortalize him.
2) This would clearly be his team
3) Our roster is set better than any other team
4) The weather (I live in Delaware now so I know what I’m missing)

Or Cleveland:
1) Loyalty
2) Nike
3) This is where he lived all his life

Gay – Nets
Boozer – Mia
