Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

Sources say one team that all but eliminated itself with James in the presentation process was the New York Knicks. James’ inner-circle has described New York’s presentation as lacking preparedness and organization. James’ camp also found it to be redundant to much of the New Jersey Nets’ far sharper, edgier presentation on James’ earning power.

James hasn’t been convinced that he can overcome the $30 million difference between possible Cleveland and New York offers through endorsements and other streams of revenue. However, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov’s vision of bulking up James’ international portfolio did resonate with him, and the Nets vision of using Brooklyn and the owner’s international muscle does appeal to him.

Sources say that James is dubious his mere presence on the Knicks will be worth that much more to him in endorsements. The appearance of Knicks GM Donnie Walsh in a wheelchair due to a neck problem and the frumpy, unimpressive Jim Dolan didn’t provide James with an image of vibrancy.

Lol... Is there any way DTS could have been made to look "vibrant"?

I’m ‘kind of, sort of’ wondering if the Clips team put together a video of Donald for Lebron. It sure is strange (pathetic, really) that the owner of the franchise skipped the meeting.

I know there are lots of different areas for LeBron to consider but I hate it

when players say that all they care about is winning when clearly, in a lot of cases, winning comes at about the same level as getting paid.

Like Bill Simmons said, if they cared that much about winning, they’d get a bunch of top guys together and take less money to win.

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Right, sigh. But, since money talks

I hope the Clips took a little bit of that hour to talk about promotional opportunities in LA (and maybe even Asia).

You know, if NJ wins the prize because they had their act together

then I’m going to be pissed. We too had the time and resources to wow Lebron.

I think NJ is alright.

Granted their team sucked big time last year, but they have one of the best young centers in east, a top 3, athletic PF pick in Favors, a fast, decent PG, a new coach with NBA finals experience and tons of cap room. They have unlimited resources and are moving to Brooklyn in 2-3 years. I think they can improve pretty quickly.
(Then again, it won’t be too hard to improve from 12 wins but still.)

by RAR on Jul 2, 2010 4:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree

Having a bold new owner makes all the difference in the world. Clearly he wants to make a splash.

They have some really nice pieces. And really, if Lebron can take a Cavs team to the best record in the league when a 34 yr old Jamison and Mo Williams are your other best players, I’m guessing he can do quite a bit with Brook Lopez and Derrick Favors.

good points

I had really ignored NJ but the team plus JZ might actually work for him.

Sources say that Chicago has a proposed trade of Luol Deng(notes) looming for what’s described as a "center," that could help to clear more space.

Well, someone has to say it: Deng for DJ?

not until lebron signs somewhere other than chicago

Even the Clippers, those longtime losers, thought they could be a player this summer.

Could be

Though I wouldn’t be thrilled with that at all.

As we’ve all said here in the last few days, the Bulls should be desperate enough that they should entice us with money and picks to take Deng.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 4:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Exactly

We should at least try for Childress and Mike Miller before we trade for Deng.

FA in 2010.

I have to think that there will be takers on Deng...

I’m feeling pessimistic (today) that we’ll get a salary dump proposal from Chicago.

Guaranteed Deng for Dampier. Chicago then cuts Dampier right away and saves all that money.

Yeah, that's the immediate favorite.

Dallas already has CButler and Marion, though. It would be a little crowded (and expensive).

Butler is out after this upcoming season. Marion is whatever. They should have never gave him that contract.

Good call

And I’m totally fine passing on that.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

The best hope for the Clippers is that Wade/Bosh go to Chicago and leaves LeBron with no choice but to go to the Clippers.

It’d leave LeBron with LAC and NJN. He won’t go to the Nets unless he’s guaranteed Boozer goes with him and even then that’s shaky.

I forgot which site I saw it on

but word is the Bulls might even give James an ultimatum to hurry up or they will move on. Seems like a pretty crazy move by them.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jul 2, 2010 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually

Several reports just said that’s absolutely not the case.

Bulls adamantly denied it too.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Ok

that made more sense. They have come this far, they should see it through to the end.

FA in 2010.

Agreed

Man there’s a lot of random news flying around out there. Hard to keep things straight.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 4:47 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s known that Reinsdorf doesn’t like to wait for things to happen. If nothing is agreed upon by the end of tomorrow, I think he sets his sights on Wade (and Bosh).

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jul 2, 2010 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not one or the other though

And supposedly Wade and Bosh are both in Chicago meeting with the Bulls tonight.

Tomorrow could be VERY interesting.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Crazy, huh?

If there was supposed to be one lock, it was Wade resigning with Miami. I still think he will, but reports of him liking his hometown of Chicago do raise an eyebrow. Can you imagine Wade and either James/one of the bigs going to Chicago? Hello, dynasty.

by RAR on Jul 2, 2010 5:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think Miami ever stood a chance at getting LeBron. I mean, that’s Wade’s team. No way LeBron goes there.

And for all that talk about Bosh wanting to be “the guy” wherever he went, he certainly doesn’t feel that way anymore.

Wade/Bosh are a package deal. LeBron is his own guy. LeBron’s either in CLE or LAC next year. Mark it down.

Nyet!

How can you leave out the Nets?

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jul 2, 2010 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think LeBron really wants to go to the Nets. I think he would have had they made other moves, though. If they got John Wall, it was a lock. Now, I’m not so sure. They laid out a nice business plan for him but I think he’s focused more on the basketball side of things. He’s going to make a shitload of money wherever he goes. I think winning means more to him now.

Erm

the Nets have a good roster in place too if they add Boozer or David Lee.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jul 2, 2010 5:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Good enough to get past the revamped Bulls?

I like banandy’s point here (see fanpost). I certainly don’t think James would go to the Nets w/o another big name tagging along. And that complicates things.

Boozer and Lee are both really good

It would be a slobberknocker between the two teams.

FA in 2010.

Question: Would Wade join Bosh in Chicago when he can also join him in Miami?

Yes. Wade’s from Chicago and they have way better pieces in place there than in Miami.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jul 2, 2010 5:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Would be surprising to see Wade change teams

Would cost him a fortune if its not in a sign and trade.

1) One less year on his deal
2) State income tax hit

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jul 2, 2010 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

It was either Chad Ford or Bill Simmons who mentioned that the state income tax side of things is basically nothing. It means nothing in negotiations. Either way, they’re earning a ton of money – state income tax or not. Wade loves Chicago. And he’s the only guy who has won anything. It makes more sense for him to move on than it does for any of the others. The only thing keeping Wade even remotely interested in Miami is Pat Riley.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

Big difference between Ford and Simmons

Ford is a lot more sophisticated in his analysis while Simmons is more of the everyman. It’s easy to take a paycut for someone else.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Jul 2, 2010 5:50 PM PDT up reply actions

I can’t remember, though. They run together for me on Twitter. It’s all the same.

Twitter: @FlyByKnite

by FlyByKnight on Jul 2, 2010 6:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Not sure about that

He doesn’t need Boozer there. They just spent a lottery pick on Favors.

They could very well bring in a guy like Mike Miller, who would greatly complement Lebron and that frontcourt.

I don’t think there’s any chance Lebron chooses LAC over NJ. Now after they showed him what a grand plan they have and what a dynamic new owner they have.

As of now it sounds like it might actually be Lebron and Wade in Chicago.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2010 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions

If Wade and Bosh sign in Chicago

There’s not one team in the East that LeBron could sign with that could compete with Orlando and Chicago.

If he truly wants to win his best and only option would be the Clippers.

by Hooch20 on Jul 2, 2010 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

True

I see the idea is starting to reverberate.
