Poll: Trade Deandre Jordan for Jason Kapono?
As some have already mentioned, Clipper's GM Neil Olshey has an interesting prior relationship with Jason Kapono.
...Olshey moved west and started helping out with coaching duties at Artesia High or his first fortunate meeting with then prep star Jason Kapono, who would be the first of his many clients (and future NBA stars) in private-workout hoop sessions. Source: LA times article
Another article recently mentioned that Kapono could be on the trading block - he has an expiring contract worth $6.64M. He's a local kid, Bruin alum who happens to have connected on 44% of his field goals from beyond the arc over his 7-year career.
With all that said, a drop dead shooter from deep is usually a welcome addition to any NBA roster...but, what would we have to give up to get him? What would Philly even want?
Fan Post from Liberty Ballers throws out the idea of Deandre Jordan. What do you guys think? The lovable big guy for the local hometown hero?
I'm sure there are other things we might be able to offer, say a 2nd round pick or whatever, but I'm curious to know how Clipper Nation feels about this trade scenario. You're the GM...what do you do?

Doesn't make any sense
Clips have invested too much into DJ’s development. Plus, there’s a need for a backup center.
Kapono is a salary that Philly doesn’t want on its books. No need to give up actual talent.
You don’t trade a talented young big for a veteran shooter when you’re a lottery team.
Not to confuse that with Kapono and good
but I meant more in the terms of us acquiring a better SF, making us a better team because no other posiiton needs filling as much as SF.
i suppose you would also have to make the case for what backup centers are out there for cheap, but would be serviceable
That's quite a range
Pryzbilla is better than all the rest of those guys and not likely to sign for cheap with the Clips.
Guys like Foyle, Nesterovic, and Mbenga are just awful players who aren’t worth anything.
Kwame? Definitely not signing for cheap.
And every single one of those guys except Pryzbilla are worse than DJ and all of them have virtually no upside.
So no, the fact that those guys are out there doesn’t make the proposed trade any more palatable.
Especially like others have said…you can just sign Novak for really cheap.
speaking of Mbenga
Not really related to this but has anybody seen Mbenga’s twitter page? He has taunted LeBron a couple times:
“mbenga have 2 rings, how many u have @KingJames?”
“@KingJames LIKE NOT BEING ABLE TO WIN A RING ON UR OWN SO JUMPING ON D-WADE AND BOSH BACK”
I just found it funny cause it’s DJ Mbenga…

You guys need to check out.....
Earl Barron this guy can ball for his size and most important he can make
his free throws and has sweet 10 to 16 foot shot. Most important is he
comes in really cheap.
A legit SF may push us into playoff contention but Kapono is not gonna do us any good. We should be able to get him for Cook, not DJ

Yes
Unless by “good SF” you mean “All-Star SF”. And not like a guy who once made the all-star team but a legit perennial all-star.
This team is not a 50 win team, even with a “good SF”.
Nope
we can still trade for SF’s. I think this team is about a 40 win team if we got Prince. Baron, EJ, Prince, Blake, and Kaman. Add Foye, Gomes, DJ, AFA, Smith and it doesn’t sound too shabby.
Yeah I can agree with that
I’ve been saying for a while that it would be great to get a guy like Prince or Battier as a salary dump.
I actually think a move like that makes the team a little better than 40.
But again, that doesn’t get them into the playoffs.
Nope
probably not, but its a start. I’d take a 40 win season over a 30 win season (thats what this team looks like to me) anyday just to know we’re improving and to know we’re almost winning half our games.
I think Caron Butler might put us in the playoffs but acquiring him might be too much since he’s an expiring contract and he’s on Dallas.
Hell no.
Is Rasual still available (and willing)?
Hollinger’s scouting report on Kapono says about what we might expect:
[Kapono’s] jump shot provides his entire worth as a basketball player. He handles the ball OK for his size but can’t elevate at the rim or beat defenders off the dribble, and he’s useless on the glass (61st out of 63 small forwards in rebound rate).
Defensively, Kapono’s limited lateral movement leaves him vulnerable to anyone with halfway decent quickness. His size is helpful against bigger wings and he’s an OK team defender, but coaches mainly try to hide him against a non-scorer and cross their fingers.
If that weren’t bad enough,
less than a third of his shots came from beyond the arc. He has a maddening habit of cutting in toward the basket when a teammate drives and ending up with a midrange jumper instead of a 3.
Reading this, I feel heavy pangs of nostalgia for Rasual’s adequate all around game. Lest we forget, the team tended to play its best with certain squads that included him out there. It’s a good reason to resign him, especially ahead of Kapono. He gives us flexibility at the 2 and 3, as well as a veteran presence in the locker room. And we certainly don’t have to start him.
I just hope we haven’t already burned that bridge.

In other words
hes a better Steve Novak with a bit better handles and a 10% increase in the other areas. Also probably a 40% increase at defense…
I only want Kapono in a staright up salary dump
if the 76ers are trying to get rid of him why should we give anything in return.

Gotta have bigs.

you want a shooter with no D...
just sign Novak!

Cool, my hope is that FO sees this and quells any temptation to trade DJ for Kapono. =)
Let’s face it, DJ had a very poor Summer League. I wouldn’t be surprised if FO is thinking it’s time to move on…
Seriously, anyone voting yes needs to leave.
Like DJ or not, he’s our primary backup center making 800K. We would be doing Philly a favor, no need to absurdly sweeten the deal.

Take note, one of DJ's loudest critics is against dumping him.

Wha Wha What, Are you CRAZY! DJ over KAPO-NO any day.
Everything starts out New, Gets Old and Dies or is Destroyed.
No need for a trade, get him as a salary dump...
Or just sign Rasual to a one year conract.. You could prob get Sual for less than 6.64m
AFA: "Smart dudes that know the game of basketball"
Heard he's looking for 2-4m forgot where.

no need
dont think we need to give up that much, but i do think kapono will help us more than DJ. It just shouldnt take that much. DJ’s 40% FT% kills him, he cant stay in important games. Doesnt have a post game. I’m very hopeful he improves playing alongside his buddy Griffin, but still have no reason to believe it.
I would do...
Jordan for Kapono + Speights

I know, but I'd do it! :)

NO, why?
I think with the present of BG, DJ will be more effective when the duo is on the court together. BG ( if who we all thought who he would become to be) will demand double team. Leaving DJ open with in range of the basket. Plus Dj is still young. He needs a better C position coach to help develop his game (like Patrick Ewing) or someone of his caliber. We all know DJ is not a starting C. But everything aside. Kapono doesn’t make us better of help AFA game. I say sign R Butler. And see where this squid can go. If it need a lil tweeking later in the season then there’s other option. Even if we have a void in the SF position, trading DJ for Kapono will give us a void in the Center position. I saw we play the patience game and see what this roster will take us come trade deadline………
