Remembering 2006

It was so much fun to be relevant back then...  There was so much promise...

 The Bad:

1) Sam Cassell's 8-second violation

2) Raja Bell's rape job over Daniel Ewing

The Good:

1) Sam Cassell's REAL and TANGIBLE leadership

2) Elton Brand's All-NBA type monster year---(In 79 games (all starts), averaged a career-high 24.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.54 blocks and 1.03 steals in 39.2 minutes per game… Shot 52.7% from the floor and 77.5% from the line… Ranked 11th in the NBA in scoring, tied for sixth in rebounding, fifth in blocks, seventh in field goal percentage and tied for 12th in minutes per game… Recorded 45 double-doubles… Scored in double figures all 79 games, including 50 games with 20+ points and 25 games scoring 30 or more… Led the league in 30-point, 10-rebound games with 16…Named Western Conference Player of the Month for November 2005… Named Western Conference Player of the Week three times (weeks ending 11/20/05, 12/11/05 and 1/29/06).

3) Chris Kaman's Hair

4) Chris Kaman getting grabbed in the balls vs Denver

5) Not having to sell my tickets below cost

6) Making money on playoff tickets

7) Respect

8) Dunleavy not being referred to as the anti-christ

9) Eligin winning executive of the year (hahaha)

10) Those cheesy red playoff shirts

11) The tankjob at the end of the year to draw the nuggets

12) Q Ross' defense

13) Q Ross vs Maggette argument

14) Maggette's relentless foul shooting attack

15) Shaun Livingston's blossoming career

16) Great team defense

17) Brand & Kaman's blocks

18) Sold out Staples Center

19) The Radmonovic Trade

20) Playing longer than the other LA team!

What else can you guys think of?

Proving Denver soft in the regular season

He was amazing to watch that year.

I watched a majority of the games that season and I would just shake my head in disbelief and say that he’s sick! He amazed more more as the season went on. He was easily a top 10 player that season (more like top 7).

It’s kind of funny when I see a game from that season (now) and he’s on the floor for us. I was a fan then, but not a fan now. I feel a little conflicted. I don’t like the way that things ended between he and us, but I really did appreciate how hard he worked that season. Some of it was Cassell, but a lot of it was Brand. He put in the hard work that it took to elevate his game in that season. I just wish that it would have lasted a little longer.

Ha ha, this is a great post

That was a fun year.

I was at Game 5 when we beat Denver. It was the same day that LA’s illegal immigrants protested by not going to work…and there was no traffic on the roads.

Anyway, sadly, they followed up their great season with EB getting married, palying with Team USA, going to Thailand to shoot a movie, then the whole team doing preseason in Russia, something they apparently still haven’t recovered from (they blamed the Russia trip on their sluggish play for like two years).

They then signed Tim Thomas, Cassell got old, EB reverted back to his career averages, the Clips started the season 5-1, lost the next six in a row, and never saw .500 again after that.

Quite a year.

Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)

watching the game 4 win in denver

and being almost completely silent through the 4th quarter and feeling a type of joy i dont think ive ever felt watching basketball

im extremely vocal whenever i watch sports, but i was overtaken by some sort of weird sense that i needed to just watch the game and do nothing else. like if i punched a wall or something then id ruin our chances of winning.

sam cassell, now THATS a leader. cmon baron. time to step up.

Maggette vs. Mobley

Game 6 at home against Phoenix proved that Maggatte should have been in more in Game 5 at Phoenix. Mobley missed 2 layups and a 7 footer in overtime. Maggatte would have made a difference in Game 5 overtime.

This was an excellent post. I dont like remembering the good times b/c we havent had many if any at all but that season was truly memorable.

Kinda like how the warriors fans feel. They had a great run and i was rooting for them to beat the mavs. I hope we can relive that this season. We’ve had many changes this year besides our roster…..coaching, management, logo, website, etc….. I think were on the right track. I got a FANTASTIC feeling about this year.

It was amazing to have the recognition of a good team

I don’t think there were any media references to “it’s the clippers” that year. Brand in the MVP conversation. I know a lot of you won’t agree with me, but I still root for him to get back to that level. It would kinda hurt cause we were supposed to build something here, but he did go from a MVP candidate to an albatross of a contract in like 2 years.

I’ll add to the “bad” though:
Bandwagon Fans

Although even that was kinda bittersweet, cause at least people wanted to be clipper fans :(

God I used to LOVE our layered defense near the basket...

Brand would use his small height hide behind Kaman, and when Tim Duncan or whoever faked Kaman out, Brand would pop out of nowhere and stuff the shot.

that was the season i won a PAIR of season tix!

i was up at 430 am one night, happened to notice a new clips banner, and clicked it to enter some contest…3 months later, I get a phone call telling me to claim my prize..i had won the grand prize of 2 tix for the whole season…i was so excited I stupidly told the rep…“anywhere downstairs is fine” and he gave my behind the basket 22 rows…damn! i should have let him pick instead of me, as he was looking for GOOD seats….nevertheless, the clips ended having the best year ever, and me and Z even got to go on court one break and do an event. It was a 4 player game of “make the layup musical chairs”…We had a whole scheme planned out…turns out the 2 guys we were playing were French, and both were rooting for Tony Parker! No way we could stand for that…Zack took one frenchie, I took the other, and we were racing towards opposite goals…at the whistle i was just focused on beating my man, and I raced frenchie and made my layup with a perfect finger-roll and rushed back to the chair..suck it little tony parker fan! Seconds later, Zack is rushing back to the seats and it was Me versus him. With me beating him easily with my cat-like speed…well, zack was going to Universal city with me if I won anyway…SO…
What I didn’t know, was that Zack had no intention of letting the frenchie even score,(Big Z is 6foot 5 and big dude!) he followed the dude down, and as frenchie attempted his layup, Big Z fully blocked his shot into the stands. frenchie was totally pissed…Zack calmly made his layup and strolled back to the chair all smiles. the crowd cheered really loud ( i though it was for my finger-roll!) and to this date, this is the first BLOCK in a game of musical chairs in clippers history.

BEST SEASON EVER!!!!
