Yahoo! - Top 10 PGs...look who's 10.
10. Baron Davis(notes), Los Angeles Clippers (last year: 21st)
A jump from 21st to 10th shouldn't really give anyone room for pause. It has less to do with how improved Baron was in 2009-10 (though he was) than how ruddy awful he was in 2008-09. Last season, the man's defense came and went, his shot selection from behind the arc (3.9 attempts per game while shooting just 27.7 percent) was terrible, and he still seemed to coast when the Clippers needed him most. Still, 15.3 points and eight assists and why did I rank him this high, again? Blake Griffin's(notes) in town, Baron, let's get this together.

As much as people remind me not to make assumptions based on one game...
I don’t know how many other PGs can score 23 in a quarter.
Boomdizzle is gonna take it back to his #5 UCLA days!

Baron needs quality teammates
A point guard in particular cannot carry a team by himself. He needs guys to pass to and guys to create for. He needs quality finishers around him.
Baron in particular can’t carry a team by himself. He’s so emotional that he gets discouraged when he feels like he doesn’t have help out there. When he has guys he trusts, he flourishes.
Hopefully he’ll turn it around this year. The team has some nice pieces. He needs to step up and lead those pieces. If he gets discouraged early and just sulks the rest of the year, the team will be in trouble. If he can do well early and his teammates give him reasons to believe, then I think he’ll have a fantastic year.
I wasnt to see pick and roles, Baron posting up (he should be able to do it to almost every PG in the league) and breaking his man down and getting to the basket. Just drop the jump shot attempts way down.
On the defensive end, motivated Baron is still the man.

I think the post is the key
As Baron gets older, he just doesn’t have the quickness or motivation to constantly take his man off the dribble. That’s why he tends to settle for the fade away jump shots or long threes. But if you put him on the block regularly, he’s not exerting too much energy to get position (especially since most PGs don’t even fight much down low) and it’s just a higher percentage shot for Baron.
I’d like to see VDN use some sets that the Sonics used to use for GP. GP did a ton of work down in the post and made plays for cutters and outside shooters from the low post.
Totally agreed on Baron’s D when motivated. I’ve never seen another player rip Kobe in the open court like I saw Baron do on opening night two seasons ago. Of course then we proceeded to get blown out….
Baron still has quick hands
eye hand coordination is one of the last athletic gifts to go (see Baseball) so Baron should still possess this talent for awhile.

Opener two years ago
That was by far the hardest i’ve ever seen Baron play. For that first quarter and a half, he was amazing.
How about
that game with Baron’s elbow and DFISH/ Gasol?
I think he played pretty damn hard there too.
Yeah he wanted that game badly
Baron can carry a team for certain games and short stretches. But he definitely can’t do it for a whole season.
Hopefully with Blake he won’t have to.
Friend just saw Baron in Santa Monica
He was walking around wearing plaid pants. Odd sense of fashion especially given the heat today. Says Baron looked about 10-15 pounds trimmer. Baron is the man, our backcourt will have issues guarding the huge shooting guards and water bug point guards but EJ and Baron should be able to switch easily on defense if needed.

Staying motivated and focus.
I also agree he can be top three and think Griffin is going to be the breath of fresh air he’s
been looking for.

Not sure if this should be a new fan shot
but EJ made 21/30 (dropped from 16) upon SG
also it looks like Mayo is the victim in the photos for this set

Wow really 21st he should be way higher then that
especially since he just beat out Mayo for a USA spot which would suggest who the better player is.

But coach K
isn’t taking on who’s better, he’s taking on who’s best for the team and best for the style of play for Euro + his own style.
Fine if that is the criteria then EJ is the best fit as well
EJ gives the team the shooting it needs and is physical enough not be bothered by the hand checking and extra physical game play in FIBA games. EJ also is probably the second best defender on the team. So I would say EJ fits both as the best player out of the guards that might be cut and is also the best fit for the team.

It is odd that KD has Baron ranked 10th among PGs and EJ ranked 21st among SGs.
I would think they would both be like 13-16 in the rankings.
