btw - Steve, I take back what I said about minutes
Though I guess it’s not really about minutes…but about DNPs.
Amazing that Rondo went from starting to getting cut. What happened?

USABB’s Colangelo said Rondo withdrew since he had “some family matters to attend to and some things to take care of before the NBA season.”
Not sure I believe that given what Rondo said earlier:
“I think I’m on the bubble,” Rondo said Tuesday. “Just looking at the obvious — I got a DNP last game. That pretty much speaks for itself.”
Well, luckily for them Calderon is out too

Yeah it seems every team other then team USA is getting injured

Then who starts? Westbrook?
Is it too much to ask to move Billups to the starting 1, and have EJ at the starting 2?

Based off of playing time their last game vs. Spain
It would appear that behind Billups starting, it’s going to come down to who plays better for more minutes at SG, Curry or Gordon.
Either way I’m so happy Eric is on the team no matter what. Can’t wait for the haters to say the only reason is because Rondo had family issues to deal with.
I bet Celtic fans are pissed right now
but hey if he has to leave to deal with family issues more power to him.

Nah, Rondo saw the writing on the wall with the DNP against Spain.
He quit before he was fired.

His fate was sealed especially when Westbrook really came on these past few games.

I think you're right
and I’d be really disappointed if I was a Rondo fan. A true competitor would fight til the end and force the team to be in a tough spot to cut him. Both Westbrook and Gordon looked like likely cuts until they played their way onto the team.
Rondo is a champion, but I’ll be interested to see what happens when the Big 3 retire and Rondo is running the team on his own.
It's a bit awkwarad
there were so much advertisements with TEAM USA and Rondo. Never expected Rondo to get cut.
Also if I read correctly, wasn’t Rondo and Gordon the two playes that brought the team back against one of those teams where we weer down by like 20 or something?
That was Westbrook
and the game was close and Westbrook and EJ helped spark a 17-2 run (something like that).
Surprising cut, I thought he was a lock since Team USA pretty much solicited him to come out and he could easily have passed since he’s played so much basketball in recent years. He probably just wanted a break since he played as many minutes as anyone last year.

I've noticed...
Ever since Rondo’s participation in that gem of a movie, Just Wright, he’s definitely put himself out there more. Too bad I’ve still only heard him talk like twice.
Conspiracy theory?
Durant wanted another OKC buddy after Green was cut
Westbrook mirrors Rondo…so Westbrook gets the nod?
(i don’t believe that…but i’m as shocked as anyone that Rondo is out)

Powers that be...
If the powers that be kept Westbrook around for KD, that’s one thing. But those same powers would want a Celtic on the team, wouldn’t they?

Different powers?
I’m thinking there might be a separation between the guys behind Team USA and the guys behind the NBA. Stern loves the Celtics for sure, but maybe Colangelo is more concerned with keeping superstars like Durant happy to ensure they come out for as many international competitions as possible? He could be panicking a little given that no one returned from the Olympics.
Stern has absolutely nothing to do w/team USA
He is an employee of the buisness entity known as the NBA. Team USA just happens to enlist the same people. His employers laborers are envolved so I highly expect that he’s privy so some information.

surprised it was rondo
but I wanted him cut from the beginning. Just didn’t seem to have the right attitude to being on the national team. Maybe I’ve just personally never liked Rondo or his attitude, but I’m surprised, just cause he is a good player, and from the scrimmages I watched (and he played in), he seemed to play well. I though it would be westbrook too, cause while westbrook had great moments, he also seemed to play a bit inconsistent, make a few mistakes, and jack up some questionable shots.
Rondo was a late add on because of ‘miscommunication’ so maybe that made it a little easier, but congrats to EJ, and now I can really get behind the team and hope they win the gold.
Attitude
I have no specifics, but you really wonder if this was a factor.
