Quotes from Ralph Lawler on Carmelo Anthony
Me? I'd give up anything But Griffin and Gordon. If they were left with those 2 plus a 26 year old Carmello - the franchise would be set for years to come. They've developed enough depth over the summer to be very competitive right away, I think. It is going to be Interesting.
I see no reason DJ could not be effective in a line-up that included Anthony, Griffin, Gordon and Baron with Foye, Gomes, Smith, Bledsoe, Cook, Butler, Warren, et al off the bench. They are in the market for another Big and that spot will get addressed b4 camp opens. I hate to get this excited about a would-be trade that will face fierce competition, but these are the Dog Days of August - so what the heck?
Believe me, the owner does not want to lose either of his young stars.
Anthony has been on the radar since June. I kept telling everyone that the club was still working on getting better rather than done for the summer. This has been a large part of that work but nothing could happen until the player decided his future was Not in Denver. I'm told he wants a 3 year extension from his new team and certainly, the Clippers are more than happy to accomodate. The competition for him will be furious. Fasten your seatbelts and stay tuned.

I just hope Ralph is right on this one.
I hope we are not done and we get someone here as exciting as Melo. I think Melo would
do for the clippers what Manny did for the Dodgers in term of excitement. Lets just hope
if it does happen that it doesn’t end like it did with Manny and the dodgers.
he has been singing the same tune all along
always saying that the Clippers were not done.

starting to get my hopes up on this
Baron, ej, melo, blake, dj….jordan is the weakest link there, but a veteran big man should be easy enough to snatch up….I’m just using all my effort not to get ahead of myself, I just feel that we can offer what denver really wants. I guess it depends on if they want to re-build, bc billups would be on the block too in that case

Lawler's quote if true
indicates that the FO has been working overtime behind the scenes . . . Maybe the LBJ thing was just a front. Alot of people will be eating crow around here if they pull this off.
“Anthony has been on the radar since June. I kept telling everyone that the club was still working on getting better rather than done for the summer. This has been a large part of that work but nothing could happen until the player decided his future was Not in Denver.”

I doubt James was a front. This answers some questions about having a backup plan to Lebron; which I’ll admit I didn’t think they had.

To me one clue was how quickly they signed Foye and Gomes

lol
On the radar. Now there is a meaningless term.
So, what, so far, has the FO done to prepare themselves for this?
Which moves were made to enable them to be ready for this obvious eventuality?
Starting in June.

I think I'll take Ralph at face value, thank you
One thing we know for certain: if the sub .400 former coach were still here there’s no way Melo would consider the Clips.
As I said above, the quick signings of Foye and Gomes suggest that they had a plan. Even you noticed that too at the time.
I get it though – you are the anti-Clipper.

Ah
So Foye and Gomes demonstrate that they planned to trade for Carmelo Anthony.
So all of that defending the Gomes signing on its face was just dishonesty?
Dumb.

how highly they value gomes and foye is secondary
If we land melo without giving up blake or ej, olshey is a genious. Defending gomes and foye is justified because they couldn’t have expected to land melo,,,it was always nore aof a goal or dream scenario. Our signings thus far were probably done with the assumption that we wouldn’t get melo (they wouldve been crazy to assume otherwise).

Not as dumb as supporting a sub .400 coach for seven years

i’m game, although if we trade both those picks I think we’d have to get their draft pick back in return (or they can have the option of keeping the better pick).

Not going to happen
While he is a great commentator, Ralph is just a fanboy like us. Always hoping always dreaming.
100% correct
Carmelo has not said nor is it public knownledge where Carmelo wants to be traded to. The specualtion is Clips & NJ because they have the combo of draft picks and youth plus are in NYC & LA which would benefit his wife, former MTV VJ LaLa Vazquez. No word at all from Melo or his camp where he wants to go.

Hey
During the summer Ralph goes camping, white river rafting, surfing, hang gliding, wrestles bears and finds time to build homes for the less fortunate with his bare hands. Far from senile.

I have a huge problem with what Ralph said...
. I’m told he wants a 3 year extension from his new team
Does anybody find this odd? Reports have it that it’s the other way around. Denver has been pushing for an extension for Carmelo Anthony; however Anthony is, from what I’ve read, the skeptical one because of the talents that surround Melo. Assuming Anthony comes for Kaman, what team looks better? Billups, Nene, Anderson, Smith or Davis, Gordon, Griffin, DJ. Let’s assume for now that the talent is pretty similar to that of Denver; why would he take the for sure playoff route for a team that has been in the hole for 25 years with the cheap owner? This isn’t a “i hate the trade”, but this is a “does Melo even want to come to the Clippers?”
Anthony would want an extension now
Since the new CBA ruling this summer could alter how much money he’d make if the cap is lower, I believe. Not sure but that’s the only way for it to make sense to me.
I understand that
but the question lingering to me is why Clippers and not Nuggets? Does the “LA movie business” really dominant Melo’s decision on wanting to leave that much? I truely don’t believe that Hollywood role makes that much of an arguement in Melo’s decision only because Melo doesn’t really need an acting career. Sure he’s testing his waters in China, but I really don’t think Melo needs to be in LA to make movies. His first career is NBA, I think he’s smart enough to stick with it.
Back to the “why Clippers and not Nuggets” question, I ask it simply because he’s leaving an established Nuggets organization that has been consistant with the playoffs under Anthony for a team that has been virtually invisible with the worst reputation amongst the NBA. Rumor speculation has it that Anthony wants to contend. Nuggets are contending. If not, he can still move to New York and join Amare as the other rumor has it. I’m really unsure whether Melo is thinking that LA is the BEST option for winning a championship. Plus, the only reason these rumors are coming up is because Melo hasn’t yet agreed to an extension and he doesn’t have to. He can become a FA, sign another large contract with another team, and then that’s when the lockout can potentially take place.
I think I might have just spoken out of my ass again because I really unsure about this Melo trade. Part of me likes it, part of me is worried.
It's not for his career
its for his new wife’s.
An LA’s lifestyle is completely different than Denver. Denver is a beautiful city but its for the outdoorsy type. For the guys who want to host big parties at the beach or in the hills then it doesn’t get any better than Sunny Southern California.
Talent wise its fairly close, the Clippers have the edge because of age however. Birdman is 32, Billups is 34, Smith is a expiring contract which just leaves Nene as the only young guy. BG and EJ (and even DJ) are just 21. So the Clippers should have some upside potential while the Nuggets will gradually decline from age.

Understandable
about Lala’s career, but she’s been on MTV for the majority of her life. I remember watching her days reporting “MTV BREAKING NEWS” but NY would probably be the place if she plans to continue her career at MTV, especially if it’s located in New York.
Said by Lala:
“Us being in New York is a possibility,” LaLa told the Daily News’ Amanda Sidman. “It depends on ’Melo’s career and where it takes him. There’s a lot of talk about the Knicks, I mean, there’s a lot of teams out there, he’s a great player and I think collectively we just need to think about what makes sense for our family. But I would never say that being in New York is not an option, I’d be lying to you if I said that.”
LaLa, who is from Brooklyn, admitted that she’s always been a Knicks fan “until I met my husband, then I jumped ship to the Nuggets. ‘Melo will tell you, and all the players will tell you no matter where their loyalty is, there aren’t many places like Madison Square Garden. They’ll all say that, and it’s nothing against their teams but there is a different energy in there, and you really can’t top that.”
Take the article for what it is worth, but use some of it to reconsider. Somehow it makes more sense to me if Melo wants NY rather than LAC, for wife purposes (since she was born in Brooklyn) and for winning (paired with Amare, Gallinari, and cap space for potentially CP3?).
The Knicks don't have much to trade
especially since Denver reportedly wants young players AND draft picks, which New York has no draft picks. For him to go to NY it would’ve been best for him to keep his mouth shut and go as a FA, but apparently he wants to be traded now and NY doesn’t have the assets. The only reason the Clippers are in this discussion is because they have the assets but it has never been reported that Melo wants to come to LA, NY is the only place I’ve heard thus far (and possibly Houston). It’s almost like setting up the Clips for a player they never really had a chance on, deja vu Lebron.
MTV has offices in Santa Monica...
…and is owned by Viacom (Paramount). While lala might have worked out of NY, MTV is split between LA and NY. Both Melo’s and his wife’s (non-sports) agents (CAA, the maestro’s of the current Melo move) are based in Century City. It’s all happening here, baby. You think Melo doesn’t know that? Believe me he does.
She could always...
…try to improve on her career…
Maybe he thinks the clippers roster
is the same one that he lost to in the playoffs?
Ahaha
thinking back on how Q.Ross harassed Melo (and Reggie Evans and Kaman but differently) was awesome. I miss the playoff atmosphere when I can brag to all my friends about being in the playoffs.
Q Ross frustrated Melo a few times....
and Melo got thrown out of the games. I remember him kicking the ball into the stands one time. Q Ross—- only if he could score would be a solid back up

I didn't find him too bad actually
I actually remember him kicking the ball to the stands.
I thought if he could have developed that consistant baseline jumper as he had shown he did, he could have been a player similar to Bruce Bowen.
"Things change when something is taken away from you" -BG32
A detail being left out regarding Melo and why he wants to leave Denver
Geroge Karl might not be back at all, and Melo loves he some Karl, but it jst isn’t the same without Karl…VDN will turn Melo into a MVP candidate.

If Carmelo came to the Clippers
and the Clippers started winning. that’d be enough to get him consideration…
Which I might add sort of sucks because the NBA is too often driven by agenda-driven player hyping. Most notable example now is Durant during the games in Turkey. Gordon can score more (which he has) and do more (I think he has) and won’t get much press. Durant doesn’t do anything and that in of itself is news.
