Similarities of Stephen Strasburg to Blake Griffin
Does this sound familiar at all: a young phenom who was taken with the #1 overall pick with hopes to resurrect a troubled franchise will miss an entire season due to an injury. The culture of Washington Nationals baseball was completely changed when Stephen Strasburg made his debut. I know all of us recall the news when we first heard Blake Griffin would miss the season opener, then hear it'll be 8-10 weeks, then ultimately the entire season. With Strasburg expected to miss 12-18 months with Tommy John Surgery, I couldn't help but notice the eerie similiarties between both of these young phenoms. The positive side is that October 27th is just around the corner and we'll realize he was worth the wait.

Yeah, but Strasburg actually played games...
And I think his surgery is somewhat more radical than Griffin’s.
Yeah..
Griffin hasn’t step foot on the court yet, but Strasburg has already been to the mound.
Griffin’s injury isn’t as serious as a Tommy John surgury. Many pitchers that have had this surgury has taken 1-2 years (or more) to bounce back and sometimes are never the same.

Not Exactly
Tommy John surgery success rate has gotten better and better. It’s at the point now where it’s pretty much a given that they’ll come back with minimal loss of skill and power, if any. Josh Johnson’s one of the best pitchers in the game coming back from Tommy John just a couple years ago.
True
but there are also players who have had the surgery that hasn’t come out the same. Of course this was 2-3 years back when I was still watching baseball consistantly, so times could have easily changed.
But if a player has two Tommy John surgeries.. I really don’t think they’ll be the same player again.. ahaha.

It required Johnson to change his mechanics which he has done wonderfully. If Strasburg changes his mechanics and it just doesn’t click for him, he might revert back to his old ways and find himself on the DL again and again.

Nothing like Strasberg, different injuries, different treatment...I think he is more comparable to Danny Manning
And Manning turned out to be OK, he had a pretty good career, although more was expected from him, but he was fun to watch…I never understood why Phoenix traded for him having Barkley, though, that’s where he kinda got lost.
Now, twf is up with NBA’s bottom line saying that VDN is saying some stuff about BG maybe being ready by game 1 of the regular season? Is he still f’d up?

It is different then Manning
for one there was no structural damage to the knee, just a broke knee cap no torn ACL or MCL. Also medicine and treatment has come a long way since the Manning injury, I mean look at Amare he tore ligaments in his knee which used to be almost a death sentence, but he looks fine now.
