You know what grinds ma gears!!!!!

I went on NBA.com today, just doing the daily rounds on the internet before I go walk half a mile to my business law class, when I came upon the clippers.com advertisement. I viewed multiple teams sites before viewing the clippers and the other teams advertisements and pitches were much more satisfying. Most teams just have countdown to training camp or ready to win this season motivation. But the Clippers???? NO way they're trying to get us pumped to see other teams. They try to show us that we can see Lebron or Derrick Rose, we also get the opportunity to see the Lakers for an ultra low price. Instead of saying we got new players, a new coach, and things are going to be different this year the Clippers just say we'll get too see some premier games. I don't know about you guys, but every year they do this and it just bugs me!!!!!!

I don't see a problem with this

Clipper fans are usually die hard ones, and they will go to games regardless.

If they want to market themselves to fans of other teams that happen to live close to Los Angeles, and can’t afford Lakers tickets why not?

You have to know that a lot (maybe close to half) the people in Los Angeles are from other places. It would be dumb to NOT market to those people.

you know what grinds my gears?

People that preface a negative statement about the Clippers making a good business/marketing move by saying “before going to my Business Law class”

sorry man too easy

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Good business move perhaps

terrible for actual Clipper fans. For those of us who want to see the Clippers succeed this is just another obstacle to overcome.

Actually this is a big problem

1) It hurts the teams home court advantage. The Clippers sometimes don’t even have the majority of the fans on their side.
2) DTS knows this, this is why he doesn’t care about adding the best talent because he knows enough fans from other teams will come to watch the games

actually no it's a business move

you know what will help homecourt advantage the most

surprise a good team!

So you can’t say this is a big problem, the problem lies in the fact that the team is not good. If the team is good the fans will show up. It is proven, and 05-06 proves it.

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

A good team is definitely a sure-fire

you know what helps a good team be a good team? Home court advantage! Protect home court and you’ll have yourself a decent team every year. Fear the Deer.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Sep 24, 2010 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

you can only protect home court

if your team is good, you are making no ground on your argument

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Not true

Why are some teams soooooo good at home and awful on the road. See Utah Jazz.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Sep 24, 2010 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions

because they are young

see OKC and see ATL

good teams but very young, so they have trouble winning on the road

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions

That's because of home court advantage

it calms the nerves of the players (and not just the young ones)

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Sep 24, 2010 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

why do I bother

a bad team will not have homecourt advantage because they are bad

I’d hardly call the Clippers having any sort of homecourt advantage since 05-06. Why? because the teams have been bad

You don’t get homecourt advantage unless the team is good. The knicks always have great attendance, but they haven’t shown great homecourt advantage in years. Why? Because the team sucks.

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Knicks do suck

but they suck far less at home than on the road. I only said it makes a difference but its the solution on its own.

The Clippers were above .500 at home last year 21-20

I see no reason why we cant be a 28-13 team at home this year.

by NBAFAN8 on Sep 24, 2010 6:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Still clipper tickets are almost half price of laker tickets.

Your’e going to watch a good team play at a cheaper price and with this economy that
is a plus. After you take that business law class you will find this info in you economics
class specially when you’re going over micro economics, because this is what most
big corporations do in order to generate more revenue. You have to remember the
clippers are a business first and fans second(specially with DTS as their owner).

also you have to know what the product the Clippers are selling

it is NBA entertainment

At a game there are two main parts in the NBA entertainment equation, and that is the home team and away team.

If one part of your product is not helping sell the product, you have to market the part of the product that will sell the product. EG. “THIS CAR HAS A 6 LITER V8 THAT HAS 500 HP!!!!”

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Only bad teams use this method

the Nets last year had reversible jerseys of their own players on one side and all-stars of other teams on the other side. It really hurts the brand value when you discount your own product like that.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Sep 24, 2010 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

you don't get it do you?

The Clipper brand is not selling.

So what is the Clippers marketing/sales team supposed to do? You know what I am sure they would rather not make the smart and right decision to market other teams, show low sales, get fired, adn then search for a job for more than a year. Brilliant Chuck brilliant

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

They can do what they want

and the Clipper brand doesn’t sell because they are associated with sucking. Its not impossible to turn it around, see what Hyundai was able to accomplish the past decade. The team is better off marketing the players they do have, turn EJ and BG into household names in LA (a lot of Angelenos don’t even know who they are) and then they don’t have to market to the transplants in the city and lo and behold the Clippers actually have real home court advantage. It’s pretty sad to go to a LAC-Mem home game and see as many Grizzlies jerseys as Clipper ones.

FA in 2010.

by ClipperChuck on Sep 24, 2010 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

obviously those players aren't worth marketing

how are you getting in an argument with this, when you are one of the reasons why the Clippers sales team has to do this.

Didn’t you choose not to renew your tix?

With that you are no longer allowed to comment on this topic. You are part of the reason why this “problem” exists.

Hardly

the team botched the off-season. Got to stick to my guns and not reward them for bad behavior.

hardly

a good argument you have

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Perfectly reasonable argument

I dont like the moves they made so I voted with my pocketbook. They lost REAL money this way. One less paying customer

RIght but you stuck around for seven years of sub .400 ball

where you rewarded them year after year.

take it at face value

if there were more Clipper fans that would buy tickets and show up to games the Clippers marketing team wouldn’t have to result in doing this.

by bacek on Sep 24, 2010 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

22 years of bad basketball does that

much of the city would love a realistic alternative to the Lakers, the Clippers haven’t been able to deliver much of a reason to follow them.

the logic is sound when it applies to "fishing" in neutral waters.

But how does it make sense using that type of bate when your fishing in your own backyard. Why is this method necessary on the Clipper website? Are we saying there is a high volume of non-clipper fans surfing clippers.com?? The logic does not make sense for the team website, so what is it really saying when we it’s seen on the team website? How do the employees (the players mostly) when their best teammates aren’t marketed in those? I can’t say imsuprised in some instances why a player is not overtly thrilled to more and stay instead of less and leave for another employer. What happend to letting your employees know you believe in them? ….“I swear to you, I don’t even know who these guys are.”

exactly what i was thinking

i dont think casual NBA fans even go on NBA.com in the first place!!!
