In Light of the Looming Trade... a Quick Carmelo Anecdote

I'll preface this story by saying that I wouldn't mind Melo on the Clips if the price was right, but I've always loved rooting against him. He's such a whiny punk, and as Steve said in his recent post, I'm glad that we most likely aren't going to have to worry about him joining the Clips.

Anyway, here's it is...

It was Game 1 of the first round of the 2006 Playoffs.  My friend and I promised ourselves that we would not miss the opportunity to see our boys play in person.  I ended up finding some amazing seats on Craigslist for relatively cheap. Front row of the first non-courtside section.  We were so excited.  It really was like we'd died and gone to heaven.  The game did not disappoint, with the Clippers entering halftime with a decent lead.  I can't remember for sure, and don't feel like doing the research, but I think we ended up starting the 3rd quarter ahead by 10 points or so.

Regardless, Carmelo Anthony was having a pretty good game.  Nothing crazy, but definitely a quality performance, at least offensively.  With about 7 or 8 minutes to go in the 3rd, the ball went out of bounds.  Carmelo came to the sidelines to pass it in.  He was about 12 feet away from me.  What followed is one of my favorite moments in my personal history as a Clippers fan.  As Melo came towards us,  I just jumped up and screamed...

"Hey Melo!!!"

His eyes locked with mine.

"You're too soft for this game and you're too soft for LA!!!"

He just smirked, and threw the ball in.

I don't know the exact stats, but I kid you not, the dude went like 1 for 10 from the field for the rest of the way.  He missed jump shots, lay ups, he even saw the then mighty hand of FElton block a few of his shots.  It was epic.  Every time he missed, my buddy would just look over at me and grin in approval.

If you're wondering if I take credit for it, yes... yes I do. That was all me. Obviously.

But in all seriousness, Melo is soft.  And a sissy.  I'm pretty happy that the Clips have been smart enough to stay away.  I think we'll be fine without him.
