The article is meant to be funny
and it is. The photo is hilarious.
But just to point out from the same article:
But the Clippers, thanks to the contributions of fireplug Craig Smith, check in with a disgusting 26.28.
OBVIOUS CAVEATS: Many NBA players are in much better shape than these figures imply. LeBron’s BMI is over 27 and he’s doing okay, physically.
(emphasis mine)
Stupid article
DJ had only 6% body fat last season and I can’t imagine that has changed, Baron Davis at this moment is at his lowest weight of his career (his best years in Charlotte he was actually a lot more chubby) , Gordon is big but not, same with Griffin, and Craig Smith’s game relies on him being big enough to bully his way in the post.
Stupid article.

BMI isn't the best...
but it is fun to see how much certain players weigh. By the way the article mentions Rhino, but no mention of Baron whose BMI i calculate to be over 27. (I’m assuming Baron is at 220) Fun times.
Baron isn't 220, he is closer 206 at the moment according to Milph

if baron is 206
then my name is lebron obama.
BMI is so stupid.
By this measure, LeBron is fat. What a misuse of statistical information. It’s like saying someone is a good scorer because he scores a lot of points, while completely ignoring shooting percentages.
The Clippers are just a team of stock/solid short guys: EJ, Rhino, Bledsoe, Baron, Foye, even Blake and Kaman look heavier than their average PF and C respectively. But fatness? Kaman and Baron and Smith could lose a few pounds, but the rest of the team is as lean (and muscular) as can be.
BFI all day, baby.

Sheesh, lighten up Erik, it was just a joke.

lol @ replying to yourself
I wonder what shaq’s weight is listed at. I think they keep saying he’s like 320 hahaha
this article did make me realize we are a team almost completely lacking anyone lanky. Sual? DJ? Aminu? might be the only ones even close, but I don’t consider them skinny either. It was nice note too that the fatter team (Boston, Hawks, Nuggets) all seem to be better than the skinnier teams (warriors, nets, pacers). Maybe we’re doing something right.
Haha I know right?
It was good company that we were in. Skinniness is overrated!

haven't seen John R on this blog for awhile
and pops in to post a joke column….although with a negative theme.

It's kind of sad that some people can't just admit when they're wrong

I had this thought in pre-season
In a league obsessed with length, the Clippers have a team with width. Baron, EJ, Blake and Gomes are all significantly bigger than the prototypes at their positions. The implication that it’s a bad thing is not correct, especially in the cases of Griffin and Gordon, where they are athletic freaks who are bigger AND quicker than most of their opponents, a lethal combination. The Clippers have a strength advantage at almost every position on the floor.
Interestingly, I felt like Olshey was trying to address the team’s lack of length in the draft when he took AFA and Beldsoe, who are both long armed (AFA is just crazy long in general). Marqus Blakely is also crazy long, but of course he’s not around any more.
