sort of "good" news as far as our chances of beating the blazers on thursday
granted this could not happen to a better player, but if he's out for the game, i like our chances. i still think a game on a back to back on the road will be tough but...
http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/01/trail_blazers_center_marcus_ca_1.html
marcus camby has a torn meniscus and won't be playing ....
so here is to hoping we can knock off the wolves, blazers and warriors in a row.

Wow. That's stunning.
Woe to be a Blazer. I wonder how long it will it take.
It looks like they’ll need a big, and we happen to have a few. How about Kaman and Gomes for Camby and Batum?

It’s crazy what happens when you sign 36 year olds who have been dealing with injuries most of their career. Not exactly shocking that Camby got hurt.
Put this on top of their front office signing Roy to a monster contract after his knee injury were disclosed to the team and this should shut the door on the crazy talk that the Blazers front office is some sort of gold standard.

Weird moves
The Roy signing takes the cake. That Wesley signing was also quite a roll of the dice, given the $, but that one may work out. Camby was asking for trouble, esp with their viral injury bug.
The Suns have made a few awkward decisions. I don’t particularly like what Dallas has done, though I can see their reasons. Denver may possibly, probably get screwed. if I’m the Hornets, I don’t trade Collison. And then of course there’s Kahn.
Looking around, the Clip’s FO looks pretty good.

I would've traded Thornton
Scorers are a dime a dozen, but weaving point guards who are cheap and could play behind CP3 as the best PG rotation in the league are as rare as diamonds.
I wanna be like Blake.
Oden over Durant takes the cake
And that’s not just 20/20 hindsight. I thought they were nuts at the time. Durant was obviously a can’t-miss scorer, while huge athletic centers with raw offensive skills sometimes become Dwight Howard but far too often become Michael Olowokandi.

It's just the injuries
I would have picked Oden. A franchise center is more valuable than a franchise wing, particularly when you already have an all-star SG.
Oden could play when healthy. He’ll always have a bust tag but that’s not really fair. He’s a big guy who got hurt. It happens.
PER First Season
Oden: 18.1
Durant: 15.8
PER Second Season
Oden: 23.1
Durant: 20.8
It wasn’t until Durant’s 3rd season that he broke through. This would have Oden’s third season.

I thought Durant looked like a special player coming out
And Oden never impressed me. As for performance in the pros, I’ll go with the eye test over PER on this one, since in my opinion it overvalues post players. Durant was an impact player right away. Oden, not so much.

Oden looked pretty special in college
took his freshman heavy team to the title game where he gave the defending National Champions and future all-stars (well Noah isn’t one yet but its a matter of time) a bit of a scare.
He needs to sign with the Phoenix Suns this summer and they will miraculously turn him into a ironman.

How much Oden did you watch in the pros that you can rely on the eye test? As for Durant being an impact player right away, why wouldn’t that show up in the stats? He had a TS% of .519 as a rookie (by comparison AFA has a TS% of .527) and barely got any rebounds. The shots he makes looks good because he can hit fadeaway jumpers but those still count the same as Oden putting in a layup.
The argument about post players is that they contribue twice, once with taking high percentage shots and again with getting rebounds. Wings like Durant (who falls in love with his jump shot) are by definition taking lower percentage shots and not getting rebounds. Durant is as good as it gets for shooting wings but just because guys like Kevin Love and Oden aren’t flashy doesnt’ mean they aren’t helping their team win.

And yet
Love and Beasley aren’t winning on a team with no perimeter players, while Durant and Westbrook are winning on a team with no post players.
I understand the theory behind the formula, but that doesn’t mean I buy it. Or at least not all of it.
Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.
OKC has a lot of players besides Durant and Westbrook
Green, Harden, Collison, Ibaka etc aren’t stars but are all solid players. Steve mentioned it in his game preview that the Wolves 3rd and 4th best players are Ridnour and Darko… that’s just nasty.

Doesn't disprove the point
Point is that, if post players contribute so much more to winning than perimeter players, how come OKC wins without them? I just think PER is a little flawed, that’s all. Entitled to my opinion, aren’t I?
Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.
PER is flawed
just saying the Wolves lack talent overall, even an all-time great like KG couldn’t get it done alone. You put some of the OKC supporting cast around Love and Beasley and the Wolves would obviously be a bit better than they currently are. Also, while Love is up there in terms of top talent/players Beasley is clearly a level or two down from Durant, Love and Westbrook.
Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.

Getting it back to what I was saying though, Durant owns in PER. He went absolutely crazy in PER so when OKC got good the PER accounted for that. He just didn’t go crazy until year 3. Considering the strong numbers that Oden put up in years 1 and 2 I could make a reasonable case that he too would have exploded in year 3 (Eric Gordon has also blown up in year 3.)
I was just tring to compare like timeframes for both players.

Fair enough
I’m certainly not interested in getting in a PER debate, because I don’t feel that strongly. I think it’s a useful stat, just not a perfect one.
As for Oden/Durant, we can agree to disagree.
Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.
Blazers big mistake
was actually in 2005 when they traded down to the 6th pick and drafted Martell Webster. Had they stayed in their original slot they could have picked either Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Whoops.

to be fair, which team doesn't have those sorts of regrets
sadly, Portland has the most notable ones (not taking MJ or Durant)

Blah, another goofy double post. I KNOW it was my dumb computer this time.

I feel for you Camby
hope to see you playing soon
Blake Griffin is coming, hide your MBengas
That's rough...
I don’t know about you, but I like it when the Clippers beat a team at full force.
Proud member of Club FTR.
I do to but I'll take a road win any chance we can get and this is a good chance.
I do feel bad though because I do like Camby and feel bad for Portland fans. Well, scratch the last part, they cheer on that punk ass Andre Miller. I do feel bad for Camby though, he’s a stud, great teammate and great player. How much more of a load can LeMarcus carry for them?
Ralph Lawler Rules!
yeah, Camby really did kill us with those offensive rebound tap-outs
at least it doesn’t sound serious
camby has killed us this year
he seems to play with an extra umph against his former teams
this scares me
last time portland had virtually half their team out because of an injury…
they stomped on the Clippers
granted this is a new Clippers and that was a different Blazers (currently out of the season Jeff Pendergraph was the one killing the Clips that game) it could be really different…
but still, can’t sleep on what McMillan can do (not saying his is a great coach…but he’s pulled his team pretty well despite all that’s happened)
Be aware of the wounded bull………It makes me nervous that the will be mising players with injury. I’m still recovering from our lost to them last year with half their team missing!
I don't think the team will need motivation as long as Andre Miller is playing
"It's better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right"unknown
Right - They still have dangerous players
Andre Miller will vow revenge and their reserve PG’s are pesky.
Wesley Mathews, Batum, & Aldridge has especially been playing out of his mind lately.
Will we see Prz? I mean that guy’s likely to do all but bring out weapons onto the court.
We should sign Voshkul on a 10 day contract to bring him in as soon as Pryz checks in.

Not only the door is now open for game tomorrow, the playoff spot may be relinquished too
Hope the team is not looking ahead tomorrow’s game against the Blazers, but we the fans can. without 40% of the Blazers starting line up, Roy and Camby, we should win the game at Portland,
Getting ahead of ourselves
need to take care of business at home vs the Wolves before we can worry about the Blazers
