Former Clipper Steve Novak Waived by Mavericaks

The Mavericks waived reserve forward Steve Novak, whose one-year contract would have become fully guaranteed Jan. 10.

Novak, who signed with the Mavericks in September, played in only seven games this season. He averaged 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds in 2.6 minutes per game.

Reserve forward Brian Cardinal's one-year contract also isn't fully guaranteed until Jan. 10. However, Cardinal has carved out a niche with the Mavericks and has been part of the rotation while Dirk Nowitzki recovers from a sprained right knee.

The release of Novak reduces the Mavs' roster to 14, opening a spot if they want to add a player. The Mavericks still have their full midlevel exception and several trade exceptions, giving them ammunition to add to their bench without giving up a player.

I think you are new here, but these kind of posts (along with the slam dunk post)

Belong in a section below called “FanShots”…not the “FanPost” section.

Mavs will make a trade soon

now that Butler is out for the year they are definitely making a trade. Iguodala makes a lot of sense for them.

Why would Iggy be available?

Philly is fighting for a playoff spot. They might not be a “good” team, but trading him now would not make much sense unless Philly is ok with serving as a farm team.

The rumors are out there for a reason

the 76ers need to save some money. If I was them I’d trade Iguodala, Nocioni for a Butler, Stevenson, Beaubois and start the rebuilding process now.

Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.

Hell no will the Mavs make that trade

Cuban is being wise with his money, for once. Why’d you think they waived Novak? Mavs aren’t going to take more long term salary like that and give up talent like Roddy B.

Wish Novak well!!!

I hope lands on a team that can use his talents. The guy is the best pure shooter in the league.

Bring Novak back to LA!

we need a designated shooter who can actually shoot… Rasual Butler is not getting it done.

You just got Mozgov'd!

We wouldn't benefit much with Novak

and this is coming from a strong Novak-advocator. As much as I want him back, we have Cookie, and Novak and Cookie are quite the similar player.

I think Novak

could really benefit in NO. Ariza just isn’t cutting it, and Paul needs shooters around him. If Novak can torch it up, I can see Novak being somewhat productive when NO needs a shooter.
