Proposed Clippers Trade
This is from Mark Nugent on Hoopworld
The Los Angeles Clippers send Chris Kaman, DeAndre Jordan, Al-Farouq Aminu, Brian Cook and the Minnesota Timberwolves unprotected first round pick in 2012 to the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu.
Personally I am not much of a fan of "The Pizza Man" as some Raptors fans call him. He is also getting up in years.
It would mean giving up DJ and Al-Farouq who are considered part of the Clippers future as well as an almost guaranteed a high lottery pick in 2012.
However a front line of Blake, Dwight and Turk is pretty compelling. With Blake, Dwight and EJ the Clippers would have their "big three" which most experts consider an essential today to winning a NBA title, though the Mavs won without a "big three"

If we can get Dwight to agree to an extension like the Carmelo trade
Pull the trigger without a second thought
I'd think if the Clips are going to toss in a first round pick
They could probably keep Aminu. Orlando isn’t in a great position to bargain, and of course it depends on Dwight’s willingness to sign an extension.
Hedo’s really fallen off in the last two seasons. And you have to worry about Dwight wanting all the touches in the paint.
Do the salaries match on this?
I really hate this trade. Howard and Griffin both need someone to get them the ball and Turkoglu, at this point, is a waste of protein.
BTW, everyone was up in arms about ESPN listing Kobe Bryant at seven (which seemed about right) and Blake Griffin at ten (which seemed a place or two optimistic), but what about Dwight Howard at two? In front of Dirk, Wade, Paul? I don’t get it.
He may not be the 2nd most talented, but to me he really is the 2nd "most valuable" player
You can put 4 goats around him and you’ll still get a competitive team and a top 10 defense.

I'm reporting you to Steve
I saw you posting on the Raiders site. Traitor.

Hadn't thought of it that way...
There I go, undervaluing defense. The “four goats” thing is brilliant.
No
If we also have to take Hedo’s terrible contract, i wouldn’t give up Farouq.
If I was Olshey, I’d try to get Nelson insteed of Turk. A trade D12 + Nelson for Kaman, DJ, Bledsoe and the Minny pick seems fair to me.
I cannot even imagine how much Blake would improve his game just by facing Howard daily at practice =D

I hope it makes sense lol
it’s still a bit hard for me to explain thoughts more complex than “Go Clips” or “I love EJ”

???
You should comment in French, and let the rest of us try and figure it out. It would be comical. How about , “You give me Dwight Howard et cuatre chevre and I will beat your derriere”.

That was essentially the same argument I told people when they questioned the ranking
However I’m not sure a team with both Dwight and BG would work, a majority of both their games occur in the paint and neither one has established much a mid range game. And I hate the inclusion of Hedo.

That Is Certainly A Concern
I have other questions regarding this draft proposal
1. How much better is DJ going to get and if he does get better will it be on defense and offense and if so how soon?
2. This coming draft in 2012 is loaded especially with potential lottery picks. How much would the Clippers be giving up if hey give up Minny’s pick which will probably be a high lottery pick in 2012?
On the other hand having three of the best players in the league at their respective positions is very enticing and if Blake and Superman could play together how good could the Clippers be with Blake, EJ and Superman.
IMO a very interesting and intriguing trade proposal with a lot of unanswered questions.
If there is any way we can make this trade without involving our Minny Pick
Olshey would be a god to me.
Clippers own staples center!!!
We'd probably have to give up Gordon in that case.

Doubt D.Sterling would..
But do this trade and use the “one time exemption” and waive HT. With a “Big Three” of D.Howard, B.Griffin, and E.Gordon, the team could use that cap space to find some decent role players at much better salaries. At that point, swallowing the contract would be worth it if it meant having better players to make a deeper run into what would be an automatic (as it gets) playoff berth.
I would totally do Mark Nugent's trade.
I’ve been reading around to find out where Magic fans stand on potentially trading Dwight. Most agree that the Clippers and the Thunder have the most to offer them.
OKC could offer a combination of Ibaka and one of Westbrook/Harden plus filler. Would Dwight be willing to play in OKC? If they could manage to keep Harden, then they would easily have the most talented trio in the league period.
Some of their fans are asking for the world (Gordon, DJ, Minny pick and Kaman), while others are far more reasonable. I’d be willing to take on Turk for 2 years (last year is partially guaranteed for $6M). Perhaps the stretch exception or amnesty could be used, but then again, Sterling is still the owner.
As far as fit goes, Dwight can anchor a defense. DJ and Blake work together well and Dwight is practically everything that DJ aspires to be and much more. Of course, he’s more of a focal point of the offense, but I’m willing to take that on. Opposing frontcourts would be at a huge disadvantage and will probably be in foul trouble more often than not. You can’t double them both. EJ and Mo can both bury the 3, and Turkoglu too for that matter. Dwight is working on his post game with Hakeem and is training with one of the best free-throw shooting coaches. As both he and Blake’s game progress, they would be virtually unstoppable and make this a multiple-championship team very soon.

I think it is more than just "winning" with Howard
He also wants the bright lights of a larger market like LA,NY or Chicago. I think there are a few unique players like Durant and Duncan who have far less egos when it comes to playing smaller markets. I feel EJ is the same way and I have always felt he would love to play in Indy.

Recently I was reading and interview with Danny Granger
and he was talking about what players he was recruiting to join the Pacers. It was a breath of fresh air when he didn’t mention the EJ, but then again all he did mention were PF’s.
I think he was talking about current available FA players
like David West not future players.
