Now that we have arguably one of the top starting lineups in the NBA we need to look at our bench. The bench will be extremely important in being successful and looking at what we have now I sort of come to the realization that we may not be as good as it looks on paper.
We desperately need help on the front line and a true shooting guard would make me feel alot more comfortable. We probably don't have much left to spend and we have 2-3 roster spots open. We have a 2.5 mil. room exception to spend on a free agent and a 3.8 mil trade exception. I was looking at the list of available free agents and it's slim pickins. I did see a name on there that could possibily help out our front line and could come cheap. Troy Murphy, although he may not necessarily fit with our group of players, he could be had for cheap and was a double-double waiting to happen when he was getting minutes out in Indiana (09-10). Who would you guys rather have backing up our bigs, Cookie or Murphy? With our trade exception we could use a player like Willie Warren or Randy Foye to get an upgrade at SG. I do like Foye's versatility at the 1-2-3 and he also filled in admirably last year when EJ went down with a wrist injury so he must have some value on the market. He is due to make about 4 mil so that plus the trade exception could get us a very nice backup SG from a team looking to shed some salary to get under the cap. We do have young guys like Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins that can be solid rotational players at the 2 and 4 but they are 2nd round rookies. If we want to enhance our chances of signing both Paul and Griffin then we can't wait for these guys to become solid rotation players. We need to win now and improving our bench will only increase our chances of doing that. Your thoughts, Lob City?
