Kris Humphries: Am I Missing Something?

Every day I see the lists of guys signed and there's still no interest in Kris Humphries. From B-ref, look (make sure you're in wide vview, light blue panel, top right):

He's a 10/10 guy playing 28 minutes per game with a per of almost 18. I'm not entirely sure what he'll cost or if he's big enough to play center, but I see people suggesting Hasheem Thabeet as a back up for the Clips. That guy STINKS.

Now go here and run your finger down to seventeen. Michael White originally posted this during the lockout. (BTW, Blake Griffin's #25. Chris Paul?, #1. No wonder White's giddy.) You want this guy on your team.

Bill Simmons has a theory

From today’s column:

Poor Humphries: He’s one of the league’s best rebounders, only his unlikable performances on “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” have been so damaging that it actually affected his free-agent value. I’m convinced. No owner wants to be the guy who spends a lot of money on Humphries, then goes home and has his wife or daughter say, “You signed Kris Humphries? He’s a total asshole! I hate the guy! He told Kim she had a big ass and no talent last week! How could you do that??”

Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.

I don't care about that stuff bolts...

For the record my wife thinks the Kardashians are the dopes and he’s cool. She also thinks he’s a hunk. Obviously she’s been looking at a different set of stats.

Guy is sort of a douche

and Griffin has made fun of him and Kim via Twitter during the divorce news…

Who cares?

we need bench play.

Remembers when you could buy a nosebleed ticket at the Sports Arena and end up courtside.

Heh

Alas I’m guessing she’ll want privacy and not take a torch to the media and do something like that

by UC.Clipper on Dec 17, 2011 12:10 AM PST up reply actions

i'm hoping Kobe gets with Kim

that would be the ultimate media fiasco. And definitely would be fun to watch him play humphries after that.

Need more info.

How much does he make now? What’s he looking for?

by John Raffo on Dec 16, 2011 6:32 PM PST up reply actions

Bill Simmons was predicting 4yrs $40M

Of course, he was using that as an example of how overpaid bigs were going to be. But for reference, it’s on Grantland:

Steve Kyler mentioned on twitter he was looking for $9M/yr.

I like Hump for the mini-midlevel

Kind of shocked that he’d be available for that kind of money. How do the Warriors pay Kwame $7M when they could pay Hump a third of that? I remember he played very well against Blake last season and also went crazy and had like back to back 20/20 games when the Nets played those games in London.

But the Wins Produced says it all. Where’s the next available big on the WP rank? Reggie Evans at #111?

It's hard to believe this guy is unemployed.

Maybe Kim Kardashian is actually the current commissioner of the NBA, you know, since David Stern is otherwise occupied making trades.

I've got nothing.

by bc56274 on Dec 16, 2011 6:37 PM PST reply actions

I remember last year hearing the announcer say he would get a big payday this year.

I really think this whole Kardashian fiasco messed up his career. Plus he came off as dumb as a box of rocks on Good Morning America last week that did not help.
He is too good not to be signed but can you imagine the ridicule he will receive on the road.

Don't we have the exemption from the CP trade.

Can we offer that to him since no one is calling.

by ENCUEROMAN on Dec 16, 2011 6:54 PM PST reply actions

we can only use that in a trade

if we signed him, we would use our mini-mid-level

by LJ Hann on Dec 16, 2011 6:56 PM PST up reply actions

He would probably get 28 mpg here

if blake plays 38, and DJ gets 30. Also, with the fast-paced season Blake probably won’t be able to play 38. And, Kris would get the nod to start if Blake/DJ miss any games.

by LJ Hann on Dec 16, 2011 6:55 PM PST reply actions

also

DJ had 8/8 in 27mpg last year
Kris haad 10/10 in 28mpg.
so, Kris is a superior player statistically, even though he does not have DJ’s size or athleticism

by LJ Hann on Dec 16, 2011 6:57 PM PST up reply actions

id be happy to sign hump

but hes likely too rich for us

by shap on Dec 16, 2011 7:24 PM PST reply actions

Yeah, okay, we can't afford him but...

I don’t think he’s getting anywhere near 9 million and I’m trying to remember that we’re a destination event. "Hey Kris, how’d you like to hang out with us for a year? Lob City baby! And you fit the profile! "

by John Raffo on Dec 16, 2011 7:37 PM PST up reply actions

I was going to do this post

So ups to you for doing it first. I think he would be great additon to the clippers (he kind of looks like blake to), but i think that whole fiasco with miss phat booty (ATCQ) might turn him off to being in LA again.

by clip shot on Dec 16, 2011 11:34 PM PST up reply actions

I also thought

That Humphries would be a great addition to our team prior to the trade. Not sure if he can play back up C for DJ though.

by Rob Lo on Dec 17, 2011 1:17 AM PST up reply actions

Sam Dalembert = $9M/yr

I think my earlier comment was actually not that clear. I was replying to your question about what Dalembert was looking for, so it’s Dalembert, not Humphries, that’s looking for $9M/yr.

Yesterday, Woj said the Nets are trying to sign Hump to a 1 year deal, so it sounds like he’s not getting anything huge.

by Vobre on Dec 17, 2011 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

Kris Humphries = Bizarro Blake

I’m expecting him to re-sign with the Nets for 1 more year and then give free-agency another go next year. He’d be a great back-up to Blake. Even if we had the cap space, I don’t think we have the minutes for him. I wouldn’t want to rely on him to play center on a regular basis. He may be better than anyone we may end up with at center, but we need someone who is at least 6’11.
