Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

Mo Williams

At first, I was hoping the Clippers traded him for a backup big, but after watching, PLEASE KEEP HIM. He is a great sixth man. He controls the game, shoots, and can help protect the lead if not extend it! In the playoffs, his leadership off the bench will be extremely valuable. I hope the Clippers keep their bench! I really liked it. Thompkins is great. Cook has obviously practiced his shot. Williams is a great leader. Foye has showed progress. If anything, I say we trade Bledsoe or Foye for a back up big. I think that's the best option in terms of winning!
So please Clippers.... KEEP WILLIAMS!!

You're not the only one who had this feeling

Anytime you can have a former all-star come off the bench for you, behind two border-line hall of famer’s, you’re doing pretty good.

That said, I like Mo coming off the bench a lot, and I liked his attitude tonight. He seems to be buying in to the idea already, and he’ll get plenty of minutes.

I just hope Olshey has the same idea

Honestly, I would be fine with trading Bledsoe. We can probably get something good out of him too!

I'm not surprised that everyone wants to keep Mo

But I am a little surprised that so many people want to keep Foye and EB so Badly. We’re a legit backup center away from being a contender IMHO, and 2.5 M isn’t going to get us a legit backup big.

I think the poll is flawed

it should be traded Foye AND Bledsoe. I don’t think too many teams will be dumping good bigs in the 4m range for an expiring. Need to use Bledsoe as a sweetener.

Well trading Foye won't help

I can’t imagine getting a decent big back for him. Trading Bledsoe is an option, especially for a big on a rookie contract.

Patrick Patterson, Jordan Hill, Ed Davis, Jason Thompson, Cole Aldrich would all work. Some might require trading more than just Bledsoe for but that’s fine.

Foye looked great tonight, and we need the depth at the 2.

If someone’s going to be traded, it should be Bledsoe, even though I like him.

Big Sofo anyone? j/k

Except for the part about Sofo, haha.

I want to keep him.

Having a starter quality player coming off of the bench that can spread the floor and carry the scoring load is a huge plus. We need a back-up 5 in the worst way, but I’d try to fill that role with one of the exceptions first.

Keep him. He solidifies the bench.

He is still a very good player(many teams like the Lakers would love to start him). Without him the bench will struggle. I see him doing some Jason Terry-like things this year.

by Air Kwame on Dec 20, 2011 3:42 AM PST reply actions

Keep Mo

But I feel bad for him. He was the one saying all the right things and how he’s looking forward to leading this team to a big improvement. Then they bring in Billups and Paul, and now Mo is not the veteran leading all the kids anymore. So it’s not just being in the starting 5 that he’s losing, but the role he played and the source of his pride on this team. That role is now played by others.

So how can the Lakers get Mo Williams from the Clippers?

They can't.

I'll trade him for Gasol

that’s about then only piece I’d like from them

trade exception

Clips can get the Mavs pick the Lakers got for Odom. Clips can then use pick to get a big.

Why not Speights....

Looks like Memphis is now trying for him

LOL at you desperate Laker fans! (LA Times)
Lakers could also offer Clippers their 8.9 mil trade exception from Odom for Clippers’ Mo Williams, an all-star point guard third on Clips depth chart. Would give Clips a nice trade chip and give Lakers a guard who loves coach Brown.

by SurfinQ00 on Dec 20, 2011 7:02 PM PST reply actions

Can maybe squeeze a draft pick from them

The question I had is if the Clippers get the trade exception? Are they transferable? If so go after Redick with the exception. A Mo for Redick swap is a good one for the Clips.

by ClipperChuck on Dec 20, 2011 7:11 PM PST up reply actions

I doubt that would happen

I wouldn’t give up Williams for nothing. We aren’t the Lakers ;) . Also, these Laker fans are ridiculously stupid, they are saying that they sign Arenas and trade the exception for Josh Smith? Seriously? Why do they feel so entitled? That exception isn’t made of gold!!

by SurfinQ00 on Dec 20, 2011 7:14 PM PST up reply actions

The trade exception has good value

it also has a side benefit of giving the Clips the option to amnesty Gomes next year clearing more cap space.

But if the Clips get this trade exception they can look at teams looking to cut payroll and pick up a good wing player. The Clips need a defensive wing player (Butler’s the best the team has) and the exception could help them get it.

Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.

by ClipperChuck on Dec 20, 2011 7:18 PM PST up reply actions

I don't believe so

It has some value, but not nearly as much as they hope. Remember, if we got the trade exception, what pieces do we have left to trade either than the exception itself? Bledsoe? Then we have no backup PG. I think it can be helpful, but no way you trade a solid player for it. They just want to justify their trading Lamar! And Josh Smith? He is an EXTREMELY SOLID PF. He is great to be quite honest, so Hawks would be idiots to trade for the trade exception! Also, I don’t think we can get a defensive wing player. Our chance was for Trevor Ariza, but that didn’t pan out. I think we have a solid bench either than a C.

by SurfinQ00 on Dec 20, 2011 7:35 PM PST up reply actions

You can't use the trade exception with another player

we can only include draft picks (and maybe cash?).

That said the trade exception really only works if the Clips know of a team looking to cut payroll. The team most interested in such would probably be the Magic (especially if they trade Howard and rebuild).

Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.

by ClipperChuck on Dec 20, 2011 7:56 PM PST up reply actions

Keep Mo.

He should work great on the 2nd unit. He can concentrate on shooting which is his strength.

by tenkaistar on Dec 21, 2011 12:50 AM PST reply actions

what would be funny,

after this season, trade mo to lakers for the exemption, amnesty gomes, and sign dwight outright.
