That's really good news

Not just because we have less competition (hell, will there any competition left?), but also because it’s being broadcasted… we won’t feel coerced into upping our bid.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but we may be in a position to coerce the Hornets

NOH does not want to carry CP3 into the season, not just because he’ll be a big distraction a la Melo, but also because the uncertainly makes the team harder to sell. It appears that CP3 is not going to want to promise anything about next year, and that makes him hard to trade. If GSW drops out, then we may be in a great position to force NOH to take less than we might have offered.

i'm not sure

The Celtics don’t care about long term, they just want to win now.
And imho, a package of Rondo, Green, 2 1st rounder plus the fact that they’d happily take Okafor as they have no center is a really solid offer.

then

CP3 is a Celtic. If they want to mortgage their future for a championship run now, that’s their decision. If the Clips were in the same shoes, I’d do it too.

+1

Was just going to say the same thing. If Curry and Gordon are both deal-breakers, Rondo is the best piece on the table.

No...

The Minny pick is the best piece on the table. The Celtics can’t offer a lottery pick in one of the best drafts in a while.

Hate to tell you. . .

But they own our Clipper draft pick this year. Top ten protected, but still.

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 12:47 PM PST up reply actions

I would take the mini pick this year

over a top 10 protected clipper pick for sure.

Sure, but

Having the Clip pick does sweeten a Rondo/Green deal. Not saying its better, but its going to be heavily considered for sure.

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 12:58 PM PST up reply actions

Exactly.

The Minny pick puts the Hornets in the position to draft a new superstar to build around. As good as this draft is, I can’t say the same about the Celtics’ pick.

Bucher on Russillo today

Thinks we are still frontrunners, and mentions the minny pick as the biggest piece in all of this. He thinks we havent even offered the pick in the current deal (which i assume doesnt even include DJ) but if we did that could seal it. Downplays the Rondo deal as well. . .

Glad to hear this from him after so many pundits either failed to mention or downplayed the importance of that pick.

For the Warriors

Its too big a risk to lose Curry because he’s their only up-and-coming franchise player (i dont consider Ellis one)

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 12:51 PM PST up reply actions

For CP3?

Neither.

Who would I rather have?

Curry – and I really don’t even like him.

really over EJ

i haven’t watched many GSW games but doesn’t he play lize zero defense.

But we're not offering Gordon

So not sure where that puts us. I still think we have the most to offer but it was reported that NO wanted Curry from Warriors or Gordon from us as the focal point for any trade.

Olshey has to draw the line

He knows they are desperate to find a deal, but we are not desperate to make one with all the young talent we already have.

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 12:48 PM PST reply actions

I guess it's sounding like

Paul still won’t commit to an extend and trade to any team other than the knicks, so the offers are probably not going to include the Currys, EJs, DJs, or maybe even the Minny pick. Luckily any offer on the table is still better than the Knicks have.

I think the Celtics should be willing to give up the most for a rental, as they have championship aspirations this year, and even if it CP3 doesn’t stick with them after the year, they’re going to be shortly blowing up the team anyways. I know there’s always been some thought that Rondo isn’t a guy you can build around, so might make the most sense for them. If they are willing to give up rondo for a rental, that might just be the best offer on the table. Sadly once CP3 leaves, maybe Pierce’s days of being on the worst team in the league aren’t over yet ;).

The Problem with the Celtics deal

is that from everything I have read, it appears that the Hornets are not big on Rondo at the moment. It also doesn’t help that Jeff Green isn’t that good.

by AtotheZ on Dec 7, 2011 2:52 PM PST up reply actions

It depends on

whether or not the Hornets want to rebuild right now. If so, I would imagine that the Clips have the most desirable offer. If they want to stay competitive and be stuck at the 8th seed for a few more years, then clearly the Celtics and Lakers have the advantage.

by AtotheZ on Dec 7, 2011 2:54 PM PST reply actions

They're not going to be happy with losing CP3, no matter what.
