"New Orleans, though, likes the other offers coming in even less than those proposals. Sources say that the Clippers have only pitched a package featuring Chris Kaman's expiring contract and guards Mo Williams and Eric Bledsoe, meaning that center DeAndre Jordan and Minnesota's 2012 unprotected first-round pick are off the table along with Gordon."

I love it than EJ is staying... and glad DJ is likely to stay, but come on Clips... if you offer nothing, you wont get the best PG in the league. I'm hoping this is a negotiating strategy. Throw in the Minny pick and you got yourself a deal and a championship contender

Kinda sucks for Mo

He’s talking pretty big for us, setting goals and such, and then hours later, his name is on the trading block.

that will teach him

by wilriv21 on Dec 8, 2011 9:52 AM PST up reply actions

makes sense not to be offerring much

seeing as CP3 has not guaranteed he will extend, and the less pieces we give up the more likely he is to be convinced to stay.

true, but

we’re not gonna get him with that proposal. I think Minny pick gets it done and we should make the deal. I think its likely he resigns if he plays with EJ, Blake, DJ and Aminu or Butler or whoever is at the 3

It's better to wait till the offseason

We can just move our most valuable assets for a rental. Even if we got CP3 via the way you suggested, there is no guarantee at all that he will stay, even if the Clips make a deep run in the playoffs. Every one knows he wants to play with his bf in the Knicks and he will be there next season. Clips need to keep their best assets and hope that DWill comes our way in a year, which is the best scenario for the Clips.

I would love for the Clips to get CP3, but with our without we have a great team and core put together. I want the Clips to keep the Minny pick and maybe use it as trade bait right before the trade deadline (especially if the Wolves are terrible!)

The clippers could always up the proposal

its a negotiation, right now NO is desperate and the clippers know it. If things change then the clippers can up the offer. My guess is they are holding back and the fist thing that they will concede is the Mini pick.

thats what I'm hoping

we’re getting too crazy here. We cant get him without giving up anything. I realize we may lose him, but we can have a championship team with him leading the way, not with Mo and Bledsoe. It may be smart negotiating, but if we dont up our offer, it aint gonna happen. I hope Olshey proves me wrong and get him for just Kaman, Bledsoe and MO

I've come to the conclusion that we should keep our offer the same

unless CP3 is willing to sign an extension, right it doesn’t look like he would be likely so we should keep our offer the same.

Yeah but you don't want to dump a bulk of talent for a 1 year rental

The Clippers are fighting just to make the playoffs, and even that is not a guarantee. They’ve done a great job drafting and can’t afford to throw that all away with a 1 and done.

I think I'm not gonna follow this CP thing as much anymore

Everyday seems like the offers change. It seems like this is going to get dragged down.

Probably best to check back Friday

if what NO said was true and that they will be done weighing offers by then.

I see Boston gets CP3

They sound so desperate with their trade proposals and willingness to blow up their team to chase a championship this year. Too bad Boston won’t get that far with CP3, if they end up getting him

Yeah, old C's likely to have a major injury or two with compressed sked

Even if they stay healthy, i dont see a title, which means CP leaves in the summer, the Hornets are left with a disgruntled Rondo and we still have all our young players, the minny pick, and the assets/cap to sign/aquire CP or Dwill in the offseason. Win Win for us.

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 11:39 PM PST up reply actions

I actually kind of like Boston's offer

Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green aren’t players to overlook. If the Hornets are looking to rebuild, obviously GSW or LAC is the way to go. But if Clippers are unwilling to complete a somewhat even trade, then I’d look to GSW. Regardless, what I mean to say is, a trade that takes away Gordon, DJ, Minny’s first pick AND Aminu probably won’t get the job done for the Clippers in acquiring Paul.

Olshey knows what he's doing here

With uncertainty about CP resigning here, he should be lowballing them. We already know they covet the minny pick. I still say he comes in with the pick and NO bites, but seriously guys, as cliptakular suggests, its time to face the reality that CP might not come here and we should get used to the team we have (and the SF we’re gonna sign) and be happy because this team is still great and the future is bright as ever.

I'm worried he'll agree to an extension

in order to be traded to the Lakers

Man..

As long as CP3 and Dwight Howard is anywhere but the Lakers, I’ll be fine. I’m really tired of hearing Laker fans the media talking about trading Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol for Dwight Howard.

Media frenzy

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Lakers were just talking big in order to soak up all drooling commentary

Kaman + Minny Pick + Bledsoe

That is sufficient enough for CP3, no?

by Ricekrispy10 on Dec 7, 2011 11:45 PM PST reply actions

At this point? Probably. . .

I would be surprised if Olshey didnt come in with that offer before friday, but maybe he has info that CP is set on going to Lakers or Knicks (like a star struck idiot) and doesnt trust him resigning.

by cassellmania on Dec 7, 2011 11:52 PM PST up reply actions

It probably would be sufficient

but why do you give away the mini pick for a possible one year rental of CP3. At best if he decides to leave they can do a sign and trade and get what some horrible draft picks way in the future. Better off keeping the mini pick and building more gradually and hoping that maybe after a successful season CP3 comes as an FA.

You guys would do the trade on a 1 year rental of Chris Paul?

that is ridiculous. Without him agreeing to a contract, this trade proposal is silly.

by big0lbad on Dec 7, 2011 11:56 PM PST reply actions

The way I see it

this trade proposal probably won’t get the job done. I see the Clippers lowballing the NOH and both NOH and Clippers know it. You try to keep as much assets for yourself and give them as little. Problem is, NOH has other suitors as well. For me, it would be nice to trade Aminu instead of Bledsoe (and I might be the only one to think this way) because Aminu can be easily replaced this season and next with acquiring Prince, AK47, Butler, or Hill. We have four players, and three of the four have expressed interest in signing with us this season. Not to mention, depending on how the trade works and who is still remaining, we might be able to pick up Barnes from the NBA draft. If we keep Bledsoe, it would be nice to have Chris Paul mentor Eric Bledsoe. Being Bledsoe’s mentor can be very good for Bledsoe as he is learning from one of the best in today’s game. If Chris Paul leaves, atleast our backup plan would be Bledsoe. We’ll see though, Aminu has alot of potential, no doubt about it, but I just don’t believe in Aminu enough to think he’d be apart of our future.

by JackduhSun on Dec 8, 2011 12:12 AM PST reply actions

Yes, definitely

you would think so, but if that were the case, you’d think they would jump on the Rajon Rondo deal. If Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green isn’t enough, I’m sure Boston is willing to bend backwards to make a deal happen, whether they would have to send Big Baby or anything and NOH sends one more of their players.

But you’re right, I don’t dismiss the fact that they would want a prospect pg in return, but from my view, I feel like Aminu has more value in a trade and Bledsoe can be more beneficial for us in the long term even if CP3 is a one year rental. But I still don’t know if I would do a trade if Paul really was a one year rental.

Yea, that's it.... lowballl NOH!!

We may seem like jerks but who cares, it’s a business.

by ClipperBEAST on Dec 8, 2011 6:49 AM PST reply actions

We've got the leverage

They know CP3 is a nice to have and not need to have for us. We have the best combination of assets. No reason for us to go all in at this phase. Hold firm and see if either Hornets, other teams or CP3 cave and make the deal better for us. Then we up the ante.
