The rumors of late have been a bit confusing (to say the least), mostly because different reporters have come back with varying facts, probably due to a lot of heresay and people talking who don't really know the facts.
After following all the reports it's pretty safe to assume that Chris Paul isn't interested in going anywhere but the Knicks. When reports first started coming out involving the Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, and Celtics, many of us hoped for the best (or at least thought it was cool to just be involved), that LAC was the most logical and exciting spot for him to land, that he could be extended for 3 years and at the same time we hoped that we wouldn't have to give up two of our coveted assets (EJ, Minny pick, DJ), or EJ above all.
Then, the domino's start to fall. We hear talks with Boston cooled because Paul wouldn't commit to Boston long term. Later on, we heard GSW gave Curry assurances he would not be traded, and that supposedly GSW refused to deal him. Are we really to believe this? The only reason GSW or LAC for that matter, refused to deal Curry or EJ was because CP3 wasn't interested in adding any extra years to these teams, Tyson Chandler not withstanding. Convenient in a way that GSW and LAC can give assurances to their prized SG's.
Until proven otherwise, I'd advise us to proceed by assuming that this is the CP3 one year rental sweepstakes, with the chance that he's still traded to New York this year (even though they don't have much to give), only to re-sign as a FA in the off-season to maximize his contract and NY's options. It's all about NYC in the right now, as all of the reports point to this.
This is a pretty seriously awkward situation from what I can see (could end up similar to Melo last year?), and whoever gets him has to hope they get a good season out of him and that he'd consider resigning, but conventional wisdom says it's a long shot. You'd have to like our chances ahead of GSW though.
Regardless, the bottom line is Paul seems intent on New York, and his pals Carmelo and Amare, the big city, and perhaps the famed Madison Square Garden has something to do with it. Plus, all the big 3's are occuring in the East anyway, right? Whatever. We'll see, it would be something to have him for a year with all of our major assets intact, which could definitely happen given the circumstances.
