we need to make this happen...
Baron, EJ, Gallo, BG, and Kaman.
Baron will never have to shoot outside of 4 feet, ever. If we pulled this off, we would potentially have one of the best clipper lineups ever. That’s not saying a whole lot, but still exciting. What’s better is that Gallo brings skills that we absolutely need: shooting and a high FT %. Him and EJ get to the line at an very high clip (both top 20 in the league I think).
It will get interesting, however, when its time to sign Gallo, EJ, and DJ in the next two years. Does anyone know if you can structure a deal in the NBA so that they receive less in the early years? I know they do it all the time in baseball. I’m thinking that this would help in getting deals done while Barons fat deal is still hanging around.

Yes, you can frontload or backload contracts.
Birdman’s deal, for example, is ridiculously backloaded.

Hang on...
You can’t really backload deals. You can only offer incremental raises, 8% I believe, so there’s not much room for backloading. You can frontload all you want… pay some the max in year one and the NBA min in year two, etc. But you can’t increase by more than 8%. If you could, everyone would do it to circumvent the salary cap.

I asked Pincus if there was any truth to the rumors that Gallo wanted to come to LAC. He said there is “some” truth to it.
