The league's approach in stopping Blake's dunks and alley oops through hard fouls is becoming more prevalent, more blatant and ridiculously bordering flagrant fouls. We know of two persons who were also given the same treatment -Shaq and Dwight..two giants that are much bigger and stronger than Blake. Like Blake, these two cannot shoot foul throws, hence the hard fouls. Unlike Blake though, their fouls were seldom considered flagrant, just honest to goodness hard fouls. So why is there a different degree of treatment on Blake? Why is Blake getting more flagrant fouls rather than simply hard fouls?
It is no secret that even the stars adore Blake. Coaches are salivating to have this kind of player on their team. One of them even said that he would not trade Blake to any other current players in the NBA! That include Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Dwight, etc,! There are more nicknames given to him than any other star players. The blogs, tweeters and u-tube have become conduits of Blake's cultlike "greatness". Hoopshype have reported that the Lakers are "worried" that Blake's popularity is beginning to rival theirs. ESPN even replaced their featured game between the Laker and Trailblazers for the Clippers vs New Orleans game! Just when did you see a home crowd give a standing ovation for a missed dunk?
How can one not be jealous from all the accolades that is being handed to this rookie? Additionally, the oohs and aahs from opponent fans ( in their own homecourts ) could easily provoke the "green eyed" monster called jealousy!
As a citizen of the Clipper Nation, I am concern on how other teams treat our "national" asset. Retaliation is not the answer for it destroys the beauty of the game. I would think that the other players being "professionals" would show more respect to the talents and abilites of other players. The Golden Rule should apply!
