Gordon Wouldn't Mind Moving VENUES (not teams)
So where are all those people around here who are so adamant that the players don't care about being in the Lakers' shadow and having to play in the Lakers' arena?
As I've always said, the Clips should have moved to Anaheim back in the day. I understand financially why Sterling didn't, but in terms of team identity, it would have been much better.

I agree with your take
"[Fans are] not technically a lot of times savvy. They don't understand and they don't weigh issues the way that [I] weigh them."
Mike Dunleavy, Sr.
Disappointing that he said that
He should be motivated by the banners on the wall, not intimidated by them.
OC is also hard-core Lakers land. Wouldn’t change much.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
I'm not sure the OC is "hardcore" anything
And they’re Lakers land b/c that’s the closest team to cheer for. Vegas is Lakers Land too.
A lot of that would change if they had their own team.
And even if a chunk of the OC are Lakers fans, they’re not moreso than freaking Los Angeles.
Lots of Lakers fans in OC
that’s what they’ve grown up with.
Why would OC fans stop rooting for the NBA’s best franchise and start rooting for it’s worst?
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Because it's their own
Your exact same reasoning is even stronger Los Angeles, where clearly there are some Clippers fans. But in LA, it’s this city’s team, they grew up with it and the team wins.
But the OC has never had its own basketball team. I’m not saying there would be some mass exodus of Lakers fans. There will always be Lakers fans. There are Lakers fans all over the world. But it would be a lot easier for the Clips to really carve their own niche in a separate part of Southern California.
All of this is a moot point of course. It’s not going to happen as long as Sterling as that sweet deal in Staples…where the Clips are 2nd class tenants and the Lakers get priority scheduling…
SInce I didn't live in the OC at the time
how did they take to the ducks or even angels? Were people in the OC fans of the kings/dodgers, and suddenly take their home team on as their own? Obviously the angels have been in existence for much longer, so I doubt you’ll find too many people that would recall that transition. I’m guessing you’re right though, and if a person grows up rooting for a particular team, they’re probably not inclined to change right away, but I think after a while they’d grow their own fan base, which isn’t much different than what the clippers are trying to do now.
That being said, I know it’s all hypothetical, but I’d hate if the clippers left LA. Not living in calfornia, they’re still my hometown team. Even though I lived in the OC for a few years, I doubt I could call any OC team as from my hometown. Let’s just say if they moved, while I’d probably still like the clippers, I’d be slightly more inclined to be a lakers fan :\
It depends on the success of the team
It took the Angels a long time to make a big dent. And in the end, they even embraced LA with the name change. OC is fools gold. Better than Sacramento, but not as good as being in LA itself.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Boy, seeing your title I sure thought this fanshot was about something else.
I thought it was Gordon hinting at a trade.
haha my bad!
Sorry about that. I totally didn’t realize that’s how it would come off.

Moving forward, let's not give each other heart attacks through scary titling!
haha, oh man that woke me up…
Gordon has mentioned moving back east
He is from Indiana. He would like to be near his family.
The Bulls will be after him, I predict.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
I haven’t seen that. Source?
The Bulls may well sign him to an offer sheet but LAC will match anyway, so no big deal. I just don’t want Gordon running his mouth to reporters about how he’d like to be on a different team (if he did do that.)

BS
his PARENTS said they wouldn’t mind him moving back east, so they didn’t have to stay up so late to watch the games.

Chances of EJ wanting to stay enhanced with BD gone
Although he is a classic cornfed hoosier at heart, Clips just made a big statement this is now his and Blake’s team. I feel Blake is the team’s/league’s most exciting player but EJ is the Clips most valuable (at least for now).
I don't get the EJ as MVP arguement.
Yes, he’s absoluely irreplaceable. But if Blake had gone down instead of EJ, would we be any better than 4-14? I doubt that very seriosuly.

Feel I need to clarify, EJ is awesome and the future (and present) of the team.
But I’m no NBAFAN8. There we go.

I was just stating an opinion and not trying to stir an argument
on who is better. I pretty like them both equally. Of course Blake is off the charts in physical abilities, ungodly potential and drawing fans and I hope we never see how the Clips play w/o Blake and with EJ to compare how the wins and loses would match up.
I just feel “for this year” EJ is his own quiet way has been the most valuable Clipper especially the the 4th quarter and has a more polished all round game. Maybe I am the only person on the planet that feels this way and it is okay if I am wrong.
I feel that way too

Exactly right that he's absolutely irreplaceable?
He’s pretty replaceable.
That if you removed Griffin instead of EJ the team’s got problems.

24.1 PPG on a rookie contract? 22 years old?
How is he “pretty” replaceable?

The rumor is that they’d have to change their name anyway since the hockey team has the same name in (what would be) the same market.

No, the only reason Anaheim is still in the title is because that's what the lease with the City of Anaheim says

So damn irritating.
Even if it’s true, don’t say it. WINNING will give this team an identity, not moving down the 5 Freeway.

If the Clippers move to anaheim
I wont be a fan of this team. Period. Clips represent LA and thats y i root for them

Thank you. This is an LA team, room enough for two.

There is a sizable cougar market in OC
that would make a good niche
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Sterling should buy and revamp the Forum (errr, if it's still standing)
He can afford the investment, it would likely make $ in the long run, and it would give the team a separate identity while still in the same city.
Perhaps it’s a pipe dream, but the dude’s gotta invest his money in something. He could put his name up in lights and hold all sorts of high profile charity events.

Unless you live on the westside, how would that arrangement benefit anybody? Clippers leave the state of the art facility in downtown to return the (now a church) former home of the Lakers in Inglewood.
Boy, this blog comes up with some weird ideas.

if blake is around for the longterm,
maybe we can get a subway center. It will seat fresh.
I see your point... scratch the Forum idea
My fanciful thought still pertains, that Donald has the means to build a state-of-the-art facility. The house that Donald built. Practicalities and localities aside, there’d be value in putting some mileage between us and the Lakers. I thought of the Forum because I believe it’s fairly close to our practice facility.

Meh. I’d rather Donald spends money on things the Clippers actually need. Like players. They’ve already got an arena. A nice one too.

I wouldn't mind if our Clips moved to Anaheim...
I live in Anaheim, and I’d love to have them here, because it would be easier for me to make it out to more games every season (maybe become a season ticket holder). I’m not sure if the team could survive down here though, if they’re not winning. The OC is FULL of bandwagon fans (I think the Angels’ attendance was pretty low, before 2002), and I believe that LA is more of a basketball town than the OC is. The only time I hear people talking about basketball down here is when the Lakers are playing the Celtics in the Finals.
