No draft pick? Let's catch Golden State.

I hate the Warriors. They may be pesky enough to pull a few upsets, but I don't like their roster, and I don't respect their style. They're not built to ever go far, and they just signed Al Thornton. Gentlemen, I call upon our collective sense of respectability. We must NOT finish the season behind those Bay-Area-Schmucks.

The Warriors beat Minnesota tonight, and so they are 30-36 for the season. We are 26-41. Put starkly, we're trailing the team that drafted Ekpe Udoh by 4.5 games. That's unacceptable. Can we agree to agree, the Clips need to approach every game from here 'til the end with an urgent sense of resolve.

Golden State does not have an easy schedule. Out of their 16 remaining games, they are facing 10 current western conference playoff qualifiers, plus two against Phoenix and Houston. I reckon they'll go something like 6-10. When I am king, those 6 losing teams will be first against the wall. Until then, I suggest we fight for every rebound.

Our remaining 15 games are not a whole lot easier. To top Golden State, it looks like we'll have to win about 10 of them. We have to play 8 current western conference playoff qualifiers, plus 3 more against Phoenix and Houston. However, 5 of those 8 toughies are against Memphis and OKC, neither of whom are insurmountable. I'm sure ZBo and Durant each put their pants on one leg at a time, and I hear that Wussel Restbwook wears a bra. These guys ain't so bad... They ain't so BAAAAAD. The first of the series is Monday night, so break out the Rocky theme song and put on your cowboy hats. I HATE THE F'ING WARRIORS!

I’ll settle for catching Milwaukee and Charlotte in the standings so our pick is #10 rather than #8 in the lottery odds.

Yeah I think passing those two are much more doable

I think finishing with 33+ wins would be an accomplishment considering we started the season 1-12.

33 wins is a great goal

It would mean we were .500 after the 5-21 start. That’s enough to get me pumped for next season.

I am

With a young core and a superstar in the making going .500 in the last 56 games is enough to get me exited for next season. If we are in the same position a year from now I wont be happy, but right now, yes .500 is enough.

Absolutely

Psyched about being .500 with a rookie leader and a supporting cast comprised of U23s.

by ReignMan on Mar 14, 2011 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I would be psyched if we finished 10-5. Or even 9-6. Our overall record would quickly dissolve away.

i dont think draft position really matters....

a) its a weak draft
b) outside of the Kings/Timberwolves….everyone one else (including our draft pick) that is fairly high in the lottery is a eastern conference team…meaning the (potentially) best players in the draft will mostly go to the eastern conference

Nevertheless, we really want to finish strong

Trying to catch other teams is a good way to motivate ourselves. If we catch GS, then it goes without saying that we’ll catch a few other teams (Milw, Cha, Ind, etc) as well.

:(

BOO on this post.

I mean YAY for catching up to other teams, but BOO for hating on my other team. I freely invite the rest of my Clipper Nation Citizens to rec this post, as it is in your right, and in no way my prerogative to stop you. That being said, it is my duty to give a wholehearted “BOO” to any and all Warrior-bashing. See below for aforementioned BOOs:

BOO.

BOOOOOO!!!

Thank you for your time.

Agreed

Only teams worthy of hate are the Fakers and the Miami (Axis of Evil) Heat.

Of course, maybe its my former life as a NoCal’er and fond memories of the Al Attles teams winning it all that makes me agree. Or maybe its those really cool “The City” throwback jerseys with the Golden Gate Bridge. Or maybe its because I can’t get too worked up over hating on another lottery team.

But whatever it is, lets catch — but not hate — GS.

why the ekpe udoh hate?

i agree we should try and catch them so we can at least say we finished 3rd in the pacific.. but i don’t get your hate for udoh. i’ve watched him play and he looks pretty solid.. plays with great energy, blocks shots, and can hit a 15 foot jumper

by isaacthegrreat on Mar 14, 2011 10:49 AM PDT reply actions

udoh hate or maybe......aminu love?

maybe he’s indirectly holding a chip on his shoulder because Aminu (8) should have went higher granted Monroe (7) is better than Aminu…the jury is on on whether Udoh (6) is better than Aminu….

so its like one of those…GSW messed up, we got the better player…and our record should show it…so for Aminu’s sake we need to catch the Warriors!

…or maybe not.

Baron Davis, "OHH YEAAH!"

by KidJustin on Mar 14, 2011 11:41 AM PDT up reply actions

Totally prejudiced perspective. ;-p

I don’t have any real reason to hate on Udoh. If he were on any other team, I’d just think that he had an injury and is now off to a slow start. KJ is also right about Aminu.

I don’t like the Warriors, but really, I’m over-stating my hatred. I just want us to catch them.

The warriors are my second favorite team after the clips

grew up in the bay area and have been in LA for the past 13 years. Yes, I know I am prejudiced being a GSW fan, but don’t think I have ever heard someone say that they HATE the warriors. It’s not like they have annoying players or are always beating someone. They have been perennial losers (like us clips) are have generally employed an entertaining style. Granted their offensive style is not going to win the championship, but generally its fun for the fans. I can understand someone hating miami, lakers, boston, san antonio, but the warriors? the usual reaction is a lack of respect, laughter, or a shake of the head- but hatred? wow- find the reaction unusual but to each his own.

by KeithClossrules on Mar 14, 2011 12:41 PM PDT reply actions

how can you hate on them?

they play a very entertaining brand of basketball

You need to lose a lot of games

Mediocrity will just leave you with a mediocre pick, but even losing out probably won’t get you more than #9 or so. Good luck to the W’s. There’s always a place in my heart for a team with Steph Curry and that once had the late, great Manute Bol!

Picking on the team that drafted Ekpe Udoh?

Remember when the Clippers drafted Olowakandi over Bibby, Nowitzki, Carter or Pierce? Even Darko’s had a better career than the Kandiman.

I can’t tell if you’ve set the bar too high or too low.

by eastie Rich on Mar 18, 2011 8:03 PM PDT reply actions

For the record...

That comment, and to some extent the whole post, was not meant to be taken so seriously. Yeah, I’m picking a fight, and I it’s true that don’t like the Warriors, but really my main target is for the Clips to finish strong. If it takes a little false aggression to amp up the motivation, then so be it.
