Why is Gomes still starting?

Someone please help me understand?  I understood it earlier in the season, he played OK defense and they had to give him a chance, Aminu wasnt ready.  Now we have 2 SF's that should start over him, Aminu and Moon.  I personally think Moon should get a chance to play more, esp with the first team.  He has looked good on defense, has been knocking down some 3s, and hasnt had too many turnovers.  Aminu is still a little too turnover prone, but has shown some flashes.  Gomes on the other hand, seems like he goes 0 for 8 a few times and then hits one timely shot that saves his job.  The guy is not very good.  Cant count on him to hit an open shot, and he gets plenty chances.  Any idea why he still starts?

Good question.

I guess the only explanation for not playing Moon is that he won’t be with the team next year so why bother. I honestly would like Moon here longterm over Gomes, but I imagine we’d taking a parking cone over him right now.

i wouldn't mind resigning moon

if he comes at a reasonable, short term contract. Curious what he’ll command on the open market. Will he get more than like 1 or 2 years?

it feels like I have defended gomes a lot this season. I kept attributing it to learning the team and just playing unselfishly. Now, I’m pretty tired of his act. Considering we brought in moon, I kinda wish we’d gotten rid of gomes at the deadline. Maybe some team under the cap would absorb the remaining years of gomes’ contract in the offseason?

I hear ya. I've grown weary, too.

Gomes might be alright when he’s among 4 starters who can all score. I still think the original starting 5 we had in mind might have worked out decently, if not stellar. But there’s no way to have him blend in when one or two main scoring threats go down. The overall plan doesn’t have legs.

Well, Gomes got 3 years, so I like Moon’s chances to get more than 1-2 years.

I don't know.

Matt Barnes and Shannon Brown, better players by far, got less than three years. So did Craig Smith.

Because we win so much when he starts?

Only 1 headband at the court at the start of the game

Mo Williams got seniority

so it’s really Mo starting over Moon..and Gomes ends up the starter by default

Gomes is pkaying some of the worst basketball I've ever seen.

Its surprising bc he’s a pretty intelligent guy and I figured he would find a way to bring something to the table, but its getting worse and worse.

At the same time, I can’t blame the FO for gomes being THIS much worse than we expected. For a clipper team that knows defeat and mediocrity more than most teams, gomes is setting the bar at a new low in my eyes.

Dude sucks

he’s not a SF to start with (much less a starting caliber SF).

Love his stats the last 10 games (NOT!) http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2757/ryan-gomes

Feel free to say "I told you so" at least million times

I had absolutely no business being “on the fence” about Ryan Gomes back when we signed him, just because he played well like 3 times against the Clippers.

But at least, for the record, I always hated Randy Foye. And Cookie’s ’burns, when he had them.

I wonder this very thing, ever single game..

What has he done that shows Vinny that he should be the starter? I’m so sick of him.

Just give Gomes some time..he will come into his role. Maybe by next season.

I think he was a PF in college. Guy should be at the end of the bench or out of the league.

PLAY AMINU

what is there to lose at this point? let al get as much experience as possible and develop his game. i hate coaches who refuse to do this when the season is clearly a lost cause already.

i was actually thinking of this....

is Gomes still starting because VDN (or someone else) thinks it will help Gomes psyche going forward?

if Moon or Aminu play over Gomes…then Gomes will feel like we gave up on him and ruin his psyche. he’s only on year 1 of his 3 year deal…no sense giving him the feeling that he’s worthless now…

If Moon plays it doesnt matter because he may or may not be here next year

If Aminu starts…it doesnt matter because he’s a rookie and knows his place is not at the top yet….plus it gives him more motivation to improve his all around game
If Aminu starts to get the bulk of the minutes now…then he might think that he doesnt need to improve because he was just a handed the job, with someone like Gomes ahead of him…he can keep pushing to be better and get in front of Gomes in the rotation

just hope he (Gomes) takes this years experience and works his butt of in the offseason and then actually produces next year

…if not, then drop this guy!

If that's the case, then fire VDN!

We don’t need to be waiting around for Gomes’ ‘psyche’. We have to work to put a good team around EJ & BG now, and start building toward a championship. If we’re waiting on Gomes’ ‘psyche’, then we can kiss EJ & BG goodbye.
