Opening Statements Baylor v Clippers
The Clippers' argument is that the firing was justified based on the team's record. Baylor argues that Roeser told him that team marketing is based on selling "success" or "hope." I think we know which the Clippers were (and are still?) selling.

Neither party will look good
No question Baylor will have some devastating things to say about DTS and the Clips’ lack of commitment to winning. At the same time he stayed around for 22 years collecting a check. Neither party looks very good in this setting. A loser organization and a guy willing to live with it while collecting a check. Too bad for the fans.
Imagine putting that on your tombstone....
….22 years as an executive of the worst performing franchise during any 22 year window in sports this side of Charlie Brown…
If he was really concerned about the teams committment to winning, he would have quit and worked for somebody else
Clippers had a right to fire him, any defense of that is BS

It makes you wonder why the Clippers took so long to fire him

Agreed........name any other GM in professional sports who has keep his position for longer than 5 years with the record of Baylors best Clipper years
It just don’t happen.
He could have resigned whenever he wanted if our focus wasn’t winning and he didn’t agree with it. Sounds like he was happy to keep collecting his pay cheque !
Of course the Clippers weren't sincere about winning
How else could anyone explain keeping Baylor as a GM for 22 years? Not sure what this trial is supposed to do besides provide a forum for a whole lot of mud slinging.
I really hope so
The Mo/Baron trade has given me some hope. There’s a fairly simple strategy to execute now. Sign a SF; then extend DJ. It’s a great test of management’s willingness to exceed the salary cap to build a winner. Anything less will be a letdown. Looks like selling hope has gotten a little more expensive now that a little success is mixed in.
We will see.
Will DTS pay EJ, DJ and Blake to stay? And spend $ to get a quality SF this offseason?
We will see!!!
All teams can either sell success or hope.
Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Bulls, etc. can sell success due to their past history or their current status. If you don’t have that, then you have to sell hope for the future.
Baylor is looking silly imo. He dropped the racial discrimination suit, which he probably had a better chance at winning. He was here for 22 years and didn’t draft worth crap. Donald wasn’t spending. We had a broke down arena, a public training facility, lowest payrolls and a mediocre staff. Things have improved somewhat in the last 10 years. Baylor drafted a few decent players and made a couple of good trades, but drafting has been much better since he’s been out of the picture.
The fact is that he was there for far too long and Sterling has mostly been pathetic.

Gotta love this nugget...
Quote from Baylor’s lawyer:
“Whereas the Lakers had ownership showing an interest in winning, Mr. Baylor accepted a position that was challenging, a team that has a tradition of losing and unwilling to pay or re-sign key players.”
The dude knew what he was getting into when he got into to it. Baylor has no character. He should have quit years ago if he really wanted to work for a committed owner.
