kaman for jeff green?
so... my friend and i were discussing this. What do you guys think?
Yeah I know jeff green hasn't been awesome for the celtics, but as a 3rd banana type on the thunder he was pretty good. and well we need a 3rd banana type.
He's a restricted free agent, and well maybe we aren't getting equal value here, but hypothetically it frees up money to sign deandre + makes sure deandre is the starter, we could make them throw in draft picks or say avery bradley and draft picks... the celtics need a center given jermaine oneal is 500 years old and shaq is retiring.
like jeff green + 3 milllion dollars + a first round pick (if they dont have one they can trade bradley for one) for kaman. (DTS will bite on the 3 milliion!, c'mon wyc grousbeck)

don't want
Green was chronically overrated in OKC and I would much rather trade for Iggy or Gay

Bad trade
Clips can just sign Green as a FA for starters, the Celtics might not match. The only piece on the Celtics that fits what the Clips need is Rajon Rondo. If the Celtics would take Kaman and the Minnesota pick for Rondo that would make some sense for the Clips.
And the Celtics have 1st round picks… in fact they have the Clippers 1st round pick that was traded for the 2010 pick used to select Eric Bledsoe.

Yep
he’s essentially the Randy Foye of Forwards. Tweener, low percentage shooter (for his position), poor rebounder, high lottery pick skewing his actual value and overvalued due to respectable scoring average (but not high efficiency).

Hollinger on Green
.
He’s a solid defender and can crush undersized 4s on post-ups, but he’s one of the worst rebounders at his position and his team played dramatically better with him off the court (a staggering 9.3 points per 100 possessions, according to 82games.com).
That just about says it. Why do/did the Celts want him? Black eye for Ainge.

Maybe
they just wanted that Clippers draft pick.

That way
they can draft a new center.

Rondo and Iguodala...
…and apparently Green are all weak outside shooters, and especially at SF the Clips need some firepower.
True, but. . .
If the Clippers like Mo as the starting PG for the next few years, then Igoudala (NOT Green, as explained in above posts) seems like a perfect fit withe the starting backcourt. When Baron was on the team, his lack of consistent 3pt shooting but good passing called for an SF who could shoot lights out. . .but being that Mo is a great 3pt shooter but not as great playmaker, having an SF like Iggy who is a good playmaker, elite defender and athlete could be the missing piece for this team. The Clippers NEED a tough defender at SF. If you look at his game logs, Iggy does have nights where he gets hot from deep as well, but that wouldn’t be his role on this team. The two issues i see with Iggy on the Clippers are-
A- his huge contract
and B- though his skills fit perfectly with the starting 5, his so-so 3pt shooting would call for the Clipper to also sign a sniper off the bench.

here's an idea
instead of looking for a super awesome SF. Trade minny pick for dudley and gortat. Trade second rounders for raymond felton. Defensive 1st unit felton, gordon, dudley, griffin, jordan. Pretty tough 2nd unit Gortat, Kaman, Aminu, Foye/Williams, Bledsoe. Dudley is a solid role player and gortat gives us insurance if kaman leaves. Felton is a passing pg and good defender.

Not gonna happen
Felton is worth more than second round picks in this draft. Kaman AND Gortat off the bench? Neither can play PF, there would be major PT issues cause both of them want to start (which is part of why i think a Kaman trade is inevitable- he apparently is not a fan of coming off the bench)
by cassellmania on May 13, 2011 9:20 PM PDT up reply actions
ok well if kaman is starting next season
then we should just go after dudley and Frye. Phoenix is gonna have to rebuild and we need a SF and bench depth.

I like Felton too
And I think the Nugs have everything we need. Let’s trade Kaman, Aminu and may be one or two 1st rounders (NOT the Minny pick) for Felton, Gallo and Mozgov.

The Clippers never offered Minnesota's pick
If they had, Gallo would no doubt be a Clipper.
Not sure what they offered
but I believe the Nuggets decided right away to not trade any of the players until the off-season. Probably a smart move considering they are going likely to lose a couple of key guys (JR Smith, Afflalo, Nene, Chandler and Kenyon Martin are or can be FAs).

no mas
dudley/gortat for kaman and/or some other picks/aminu maybe, but not for the minny pick. Maybe I’m overvaluing the pick, but I don’t think dudley is a starter, and having DJ, Kaman, and Gortat would just be ridiculous. No way you get felton for a couple 2nd rounders.
Just to mix things up a bit, maybe I’d do Minny pick for felton and gallo, Kaman for Lopez and dudley or childress.
I like your thinking on this.. I'd just change it up a bit
Kaman for Gortat/Childress. Gortat is underpaid for his productivity so I don’t think Phoenix will trade him, but with 12Mil expiring contract and taking back Childress they might consider it.
Minny pick for felton,Gallo Felton and Gallo make about 12M next year so Clips won’t be able to eat all that salary. You’d have to find about 5-7 Mil to give back to Denver. They won’t take Foye and Gomes. Maybe Foye and Bledsoe? Minny pick, Foye and Bledsoe for Felton,Gallo. Seems like alot to give up. Especially since Felton and Gallo are free agents after next year. Refuse to pay either one and lose one and the trade becomes pretty bad. The lineup next year would be great though..
Felton / Mo. Will
Gordon / Childress
Gallo / Aminu
Griffin / Rhino/Diogu (re-sign either one at the Vet’s min.)
DJ / Gortat
Gomes,Cook, Warren, Second -round picks to round out the bench
Top 5 team in the West?
i'd trade kaman for dudley and lopez.
felton and gallo will take more than the minny pick maybe throw in another pick. I like adding 4 solid role players for an expiring kaman and picks.

Kaman for Pierce?
Celtics stated they want to revamp their roster, so why not trade for a championship, all star, LA native small forward! Plus he brings much needed veteran experience! He will only be good for a few more years, by then hopefully we have someone else at SF!
"Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance" -Jean-Paul Sarte
i'd probably do that
maybe try and get our pick back somehow, but I think ainge said recently he’s considering bring pierce off the bench and playing green in a bigger role next year. To me that sounds like he’s down on pierce. With Doc back, they might choose to keep the “big 3(4)” together, but I think it’s pretty obvious they need a center. Between their big 4, they’re already over the cap, so they really can’t make many moves except signing guys with bird’s rights. If they’re going to get a new center, it’s pretty much going to have to be via trade.
Ballsy move
I like it. I also like the idea of getting a pick or something else back, but the Celts will hard ball any Pierce trades. Still, Kaman for Pierce straight up it is a really gutsy move the Clips should take if they can.
this trade crossed my mind
but pierce is a celtic for life, doubt this happens.

Same here, but I agree.. He'll retire with the Celtics.

Kaman and MInny pick for Pierce?
But I still think Boston says no to that.
by Michael White on May 16, 2011 7:55 AM PDT up reply actions
I would love it for the Clippers. He’s not that old and is still better than any other realistic target for LAC. FYI the last year of his contract is unguaranteed

never been a fan of Jeff Green
too much of a tweener. Seemed like an overhyped Thornton, playing majorily the 4 spot. maybe he wasn’t as big of a black hole, but definitely wasn’t much more efficient (stats gurus, any help?). I think he could be an efficient 6th man, providing some spark off the bench at the 3/4, but probably little more than that. Definitely no need to trade for him when he’s a RFA, and I’d probably rather have Hill, Prince, or Battier than Green anyways.
Jeff Green is a younger version of Ryan Gomes
Their career averages are eerily similar. Both have PER’s of 12.8 and TS% within .002 of each other. Usually fans come up with trade ideas that are lopsided in their team’s favor. This is just the opposite.
