Just a thought so don't go crazy if you don't agree BUT, would it be worth seeing if Minny swaps picks - their No.2 pick this year for the unprotected 2012 pick we own of theirs next year.
For them, Derrick Williams plays the same positions as their two best players so doesn't fit their current need. Chad Ford and others are also saying they are willing to talk about potentially moving it.For us, the benefit would be that we could take Williams and build him into our core, giving us also the financial flexibility to resign DeAndre and EJ with no issues and also use Kaman/Aminu, if we wanted to, if a good trade offer comes up. Williams has a high IQ, is an athlete, can hit from 3 and is versatile (can always play the 4 if we went with a small lineup or Blake is off the floor).
It also deals with our issue of a hole at the SF position. Now, it might not give the same excitement as a well known SF signing but look what happened last year. When do good quality free agent signings ever land with the Clippers? Not very often.
For Minny, they get their 2012 pick back which is in a stronger draft with potentially more options. They will also know by then if Rubio is coming over and so they'll have an idea of the best positions to fill on their team.
There is also the risk factor. We'd be knowing what we would get with this number 2 pick. The upside of next years pick could be slightly higher (a No.1 pick or a better quality player in the No.2 or No.3 pick) but the downside could be worse as the pick could drop a few places.
