The Clippers GM Neil O. has come across and reiteratedhis goal of acquiring free agents in the off-season and this has a good year of solid free-agents, free-agents that can fit into the team quite nicely. Two players that come to mind are playing the same position we acquired free-agents last summer...ironically (does that mean we failed last summer?). Now, this option I would even choose over one like trading Kaman for an Andre Iguodala.
I would like the team to go for Shane Battier to add his experience, defense, intelligence and tenacity to this very needing team. He's old enough to have been in the league a while to know "up" from "down" and he is young enough to play all 82 games and play for a few more years transitioning from starter to reserve. The other free-agent signing can be a player like Arron Afflalo, a player who brings more defense and "scoring when open" ability. Afflalo comes from the Ben Howland school of defense and this team needs more of it. If we can sign two players such as these, we build for a solid foundation without taking away from the future. We will compete for a sound playoff effort and not break the bank in signing them. For the 2 free-agents of yesteryear....
