Wolves and Suns discussing possible trade to send Steve Nash to the worst team in the league
This according to ESPN...
Phoenix Suns' general posture has been to rebuff trade inquiries for star guard Steve Nash, but the Suns have had discussions this month with the Minnesota Timberwolvesabout a deal that would send Nash to Minnesota in a package for the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's draft, according to sources briefed on the talks.
Wait a minute. If this deal goes down, it would mean that one of the best PGs in the league possibly moving to the worst team? All I can say is wow...

Poor Nash
if this goes down he should retire, he doesn’t deserve to end his career like that.

True but at this point in his career
it is more about legacy than anything else.

It is
course he took less money to stay in Phoenix so they could sign other players.

Wow!
That’s worse than Purgatory and that’s where Baron is now!
Yes they have a pretty nutty GM and bad record
but most of the current and past players like the city and the fans

This would be disasterous for the 2012 pick
Nash and Love could make them a decent team for one year. Would be a completely short-sided trade for the Wolves but who knows what the heck David Kahn is doing. KAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Yup. The idea of bringing in Nash to “mentor” Rubio is dumb.

Apparently the Suns aren't interested at all
Per ESPN rumors (insider only):
Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby told the Arizona Republic this on Wednesday: “We are not trading Steve Nash. Period. Exclamation point.”
Not to worry, the Wolves will still suck.

“I also have been hearing that efforts by the Knicks and other teams to acquire Nash have been falling flat, because the Suns are not presently inclined to move him.”

Even at his age, I’d still take Steve for a year or two. The guy can still score and make some great plays.

It would be nice
but even if you swapped Mo for Nash the Clips wouldn’t be contenders right away and in 2 years they would have a huge hole at PG.

Granted
they will likely have a hole at PG but the dropoff won’t be as bad.

not necessarily true.
but funny.

I highly doubt Nash will get traded, especially to Minny
Suns have already stated they will not trade Nash for anything.
Empty rumour. Move along everyone.
Nash for Month Williams, Baron’s home for rent and his own star on the walk of fame.

PHX is incredibly short sighted.
Nash isn’t a spring chicken and they’re years away from title contention. I’m not saying do THIS deal, but if I were the Suns I’d deal Nash and either Gortat or Lopez for Chris Bosh. Then build around Aaron Brooks, Bosh, and whichever center is left over.
Lord knows they have plenty of wings to fill out the roster.

Maybe they are actually being loyal to a loyal player?
Letting him and Grant Hill go out as Suns.
Proud member of Club FTR. falconPUNCH! for president!
yea this would be a tough choice for the PHX front office
I am all for being loyal to players, but I mean they’re not going to be contenders with them, unless they can trade warrick, dudley, and childress for Lebron. I suppose if PHX wants to be loyal to them, while starting the rebuilding process, the best thing would be to arrange a trade with a contender for some of their younger pieces. Nash/Gortat for Bynum, or Nash/Hill for Teague/JoshSmith, or something.
Gortat is just 27
I don’t know if they have to trade him. He’s also signed for a very reasonable contract (3 yrs/20 million). Even after buying out Vince they could probably trade a wing as Pietrus, Childress, Dudley and Hill are a bit repetitive. If they let Hill walk that kind of solves the problem on its own, if they bring him back then Pietrus expiring contract is probably the easiest to move.

Trade a wing you say?
I wonder if we could convince them to take the HIGH SCORER and BORDERLINE STARTER Randy Foye for their BENCH WARMER Josh Childress… (This is how I’d sell it to them.)

Yes
that would be a nice move. Would be big props to Olshey if he could make a sneaky move like this.

I think PHX would probably do this
Childress is owed like 28 mil, for sitting on the bench, Foye will be an expiring contract. I don’t think you’d have to sell them on much more than that. Not sure the Clips want to take on that long term salary for a guy they’re not sure can be a starter.
yea, didn't mean to lump gortat with the older guys
but just was thinking of a deal that might work out for both sides. I just don’t see PHX having the pieces to move that would make them a contender again within Nash’s or Hill’s tenure. They might have 3 or 4 years left on their career, of which I’d only count on 1 or 2 years of high level play. If PHX is really offered the 2nd for Nash, I think they’d have to consider it, but it might be a bad PR move for them

The best case
for both parties is to trade Nash to a contender and get something back. I dunno, let’s say Jason Kidd does retire maybe the Suns get back a 1st round pick and Beaubois. Everyone loves a reunion and happy ending ask David Kahn.

One of the best PG's in the league moving to the worst team in the NBA?
Didn’t Baron do that when he left the Warriors?
Sure, but then Baron became one of the worst pg's
in the league. Nash has more pride than that.

I know you dislike Baron
but Baron didn’t come remotely close to being one of the worst PGs in the league. You’d be hard-pressed to name 15 better PGs in the NBA.

Eh. That first year he was excruciatingly bad.
He was nowhere near the worst the 2nd or 3rd year though.

This
It’s unfair to vilify players for not playing as well as their contracts. It’s not like Rashard Lewis was going to reject $20mil a year because he knows he’s not worth that much. You blame the organization for being dumb enough for paying them, and the organization (being that their paying them) has the right to get upset at the player for underperforming, but not the fans.

Bad for Baron sure
but still better than a lot of other PGs. He wasn’t Ryan Gomes 2010-2011 bad.

As far as I know
The Nash to Minny deal is not happening, not now that Minny got Rubio, after all the fanfare and anticipation they’re not gonna dump Rubio for Nash…unless Rubio is the piece to be traded, I bet you Phoenix would want that in return…
