Los Angeles Clippers- Miami Heat Postgame Thread

Crazy, crazy, crazy game and I need to squeeze this in here quickly. DJ just threw down a dunk with 6 seconds left, and I am assuming that this game is over. Erik Spoelstra just picked up two technical fouls and got ejected.

Steve will be here with a recap later on, but this is your postgame thread for now.

The Clippers were behind for most of the game before a monster third quarter that gave them a 1 point lead. After playing good defense throughout the fourth, Chris Paul missed a floater as time expired and we went to overtime.

The Clippers played well in overtime and won the period 9-3.

Here's some quick stats:

Chris Paul: 27 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals

Blake Griffin: 20 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block

Caron Butler: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist

DeAndre Jordan: 8 points, 11 rebounds, 6 blocks

And there's my 150 words. Talk below.

And guys, Club O is alive and well. Please bring your same passion and excitement to the Lakers game and every other game this season in the threads. It is great.

Would have been risky.

But it would be AWESOME if DeAndre fed Blake a nice alley-oop at the end! :)

Naw.

I think Spoelstra lost his cool, but Wade and James were classy at the end of the game. They congratulated the other team; I think Spoelstra will soon realize that his team DIDN’T foul.

And this is the only time we play them during the regular season.

So that must mean we will be favorites to win the finals when we play them, right?

Overall, a solid game played by the Clippers (except the last minutes of regulation)

They really fought for their win. Even with Billups’ off night and Caron’s slow start, the Clippers showed their strengths. DeAndre did his job on defense and the boards; he fought for every ball and he shut down anyone with the hopes of making an easy layup. Griffin scored quiet nicely and he really gave Bosh a hard time (for the most part). Butler knocked down his shots and just kept with it even when he was missing. Billups.. I’ll be honest, he had the weakest performances out of the starters, but his free throws were no doubt GREAT. He really did his job on the line, I just wish he made his open shots. CP3. Well, must I say anything? He scored, passed, and kept the ball secure. There defense fought hard the whole game and they never really slowed down. If they didn’t get a call, they played defense; if they missed a shot, got down on defense. Overall, a solid game played.

by SurfinQ00 on Jan 11, 2012 10:58 PM PST reply actions

Yes, let's be honest!

Billups didn’t just have an off night. He chucked up the ball whenever he got it, whether he was open or not. That’s gotta stop so Blake can get more touches!

I think it was right about at its peak.

The call could have gone either way. But LeBron traveled, so I don’t feel bad.

meh

don’t think it was a point of emphasis this year. Wallace got away with it a lot yesterday too. This year is the year of the and1’s, where supposedly the rules changed. Haven’t really seen it take effect, though one of Lebron’s shots this game should’ve fallen under the new rules this year, where he was awarded a shooting foul, but whatever, I hate the rules where they emphasize something for the first 10 games, then it’s back to business as usual for the rest of the season. Remember that one year, where you were assessed a tech when you even like raised your arms after a foul? haha.

goal tending all the way....

butler has been absolutely fantastic

just dont put the ball on the floor much unless you’re getting an open look in rhythm and dribbling into a mid range shot. butler should not be getting iso calls in our starters unless it’s a scramble play.

as much as we hate to admit it, there are smart laker fans, our purple and yellow counterparts. The problem is that the Lakers also have a lot of people who don’t know about basketball who aren’t ‘real’ fans

lol, kinda true though

We beat the Heat last year and didn’t do much. we just need to take this win and continue to beat good teams, especially in our own home. I watched the game on ESPN and i love Hubie. Hubie & Ralph together would be great (sorry Mike, but you have 20 kids to take care of).

What a game

I keep asking myself if this win felt better than our win against the Heat last year. I’ve decided that they’re both equally awesome… Last year’s win came out of nowhere and showed our potential with Blake, tonight’s win felt like the first of many.

by TPan on Jan 11, 2012 11:03 PM PST reply actions

tonight because of the hype

national tv, close physical game. Last year, while awesome, felt like a trap game for Miami. This year we were better than them.

by LJ Hann on Jan 11, 2012 11:08 PM PST up reply actions

they were ready for us, we didnt sneak up on them

hell we were losing most a good chunk of this game and looked simply outmatched in the first half.

last year it’s like we jumped on them unsuspectingly and they just gradually chipped away, but couldnt get all the way back. they were ready for us tonight. and still lost.

feels great

I'm so pumped!!!!!

It was close but we managed to pull it out. While it wasn’t pretty, I will take any win I can get against Miami.

You guys totally exposed LeBron.

Once you get past his charging to the basket and drawing contact, you see how unremarkable he is as a basketball player. He had 1 field goal the entire 4th quarter and OT. He barely made half his free throws. The game’s supposed greatest player didn’t close shit. Not even his own mouth. Speaking of which, how much complaining do James and Wade have to do to get a technical?!

The game is probably over if the Clippers secure a defensive rebound off LeBron’s first critical miss from the free-throw line, but don’t discount the defensive effort in the clutch by the Clippers. With Paul steadily guiding the offense and DeAndre Jordan protecting the paint and sending away shots, the Clippers more than earned their victory against the league’s most talented team.

or Battier pulling his jersey to deny a key rebound?

We need Bill Walton back: "Where would the LA Clippers franchise be without Sean Rooks? Bo Outlaw might be the best pick up of the off season.

Or Chauncy hardly touching Wade as he went to the basket.

"Fuck this shit. Is this fucking season over yet? It is? Jesus H. motherfucking Christ on a stick! Get Nick Holt on the phone NOW! Stupid motherfucker forces us to score touchdowns on every possession, and we still can't win the Alamo Bowl? Hey, asshole! It's Steve Sarkisian. You're fucking FIRED, you FUCK!"

im surprised a superstar this good

has no fire, no clutchness, no competitive drive…

things like this is why i can never accept LeBron as the next Jordan

heck, id still put Kobe over LeBron for this reason alone

I have to admit

I really liked how Reggie was playing. His rotations were crisp. He boxed out for rebounds and he set solid screens. Something both Deandre and Blake need to learn from him. Reggies screens almost always freed Paul. It was beautiful. I want more Reggie.

ALSO...

Reggie showed that he knows how to play the game, that he knows how to take of the ball. He showed he knows that he is a nonscoring big and that he knows who to give the ball to and when.

He plays really good defense.

We may end up running an eight man rotation when that one guy comes back; Reggie, Mo and Bledsoe.

Reggie also can apply pressure to a player

like when he forced Chalmers to take a TO at the perimeter

won.'t happen

you can’t do that in this season. Gomes will get minutes because we need a wing… In that rotation we have 4 guards 1 wing 3 bigs… Likely foye will not see a lot of time unless someone is out…. Hopefully trey/cook/Solomon can play well enough to support down low

I loved seeing Reggie give Blake a hug when Griff subbed him out in the 4th. Seemed like a message was being sent – Mess with BG and you answer to Reggie

or that it confirms that Reggie is a very touchy feely kind of guy

maybe he whispered in his ear….grab those balls for me while im on the bench
