The Daily Clipper - The Heat Is Off Edition

Seems appropriate, given the big win last night and the fact that we had a power outage (thus the heat off) in our OC hood this morning! Found a few bits of stuff in the internets for your enjoyment after the jump:

The Sporting News article...

Is based on Sam Amick’s SI article here. Really great. I’m gonna put it up as a fanshot too.

My standard for success is simple

Make the playoffs and finish better than the Lakers – this is the bare minimum requirement in any given year.

No need for me to think bigger yet…the above makes me happy. The only other success factor I would think about are that the long term goals (i.e. resigning CP3 and Blake) are not compromised in some way.

We need Bill Walton back: "Where would the LA Clippers franchise be without Sean Rooks? Bo Outlaw might be the best pick up of the off season.

seems like that GIF

made by the SBN guy of the “flop” is missing the first action by wade. Seems like the ball is on the ground and Griffin is already in pain by the first frame, can’t really tell what happened before that. Was that the play where Griffin went down for a while?

by osamu on Jan 12, 2012 10:41 AM PST reply actions

That's a stupid cherry-picked gif by ignoring the majority of the collision

I could do that with any collision if I just started the animation right when they touched. It would look like everyone is flopping every time…

From what I remember, Blake came down and (obviously accidentally) Wade’s fist was already where Blake’s chin ended up. So Blake ended up getting the uppercut, just because Wade’s hand was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It certainly wasn’t a flop.

yea, that's how I recall it too

it was pretty much on a rebound. I’ll give it to the guy that Blake does attempt to draw fouls on occasion, but I don’t think that play was even close to a flop. If he was trying to make a case, there were better examples out there.

by osamu on Jan 12, 2012 12:11 PM PST up reply actions

Exactly

I think he flops plenty, but this was just a bad example.

But...everybody says Matt Barnes is one of those big time fake tough guys

you know.. those guys that get hit, then when he’s around his friends he’ll pretend he wants to fight because he knows his friends will hold him back? Yeah those.

But we all know Gasol is a bigger flopper right? I didn’t know it was possible to make a flop “mixtape” LOL

The SI article written by Sam Amick is very good. It shows us

that probably DTS is now getting it. The LA Times piece was very good. Enjoyed it very much.

Can someone explain to me

how come I’ve been seeing “B [NBA logo] G” everywhere? Are they promoting Blake Griffin? I saw a commercial with BG in it with all the superstars but it had Griffin like 3 times.

its supposed to be "Big things are coming"

With the logo as the I. Pretty lame, but I assume their marketing minds had little time to put something.

perhaps Stern has deemed BIG to be defined as the year of Blake Griffin?

nah

obviously it’s the year of Ben Gordon

or maybe they’re honoring the illustrious career of Bobby Gross

They gave out the "Big Things" t-shirt at the pre-season open scrimmage

I thought they were promoting Blake at the time.

i forgot what game it was recently, but some young kid was trying to do the Clipper Stripper schtick

except with Clipper t-shirts! He ended up having shirts trapped around his head and stuff – too funny!

I want a few cameos from Bill Walton

in the booth, or before/after games, something. Maybe bring back Westphal too, now that he might be looking for new employment.

Anyone see this article?

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/281107/20120112/lakers-clippers-preview-who-s-better-debate.htm

Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant is playing with banged up wrist, and Andrew Bynum missed the first four games of the season. Pau Gasol’s numbers are down, and the Lakers never fully addressed the lack of production at point guard.
Going into Saturday’s game, the Lakers will be without a day’s rest, while the Clippers will have two days of rest before their “home game.” There will be plenty of Lakers’ fans at Staples, but this will likely be a pro-Clippers crowd. There has been more enthusiasm about this Clippers team than in recent years.
Expect the Clippers to win the “Battle of LA” on Saturday, but for the Lakers to win the war.

What the hell is that? They are basically saying, yeah, we have a worse team, but we have an excuse to lose and we are using them before the game.

Great 3 minute video of the evolution of the Clips

Just saw this on ESPN Los Angeles. The first 5 seconds alone listening to Ralph saying me o my watching Brent Barry miss 2 layups is worth the look alone.
