This is why I hate the NBA refs. Also, wasn't that a triple dribble??

Triple Dribble

I think the first bounce is just the ball being collected after the rebound, the second bounce the refs thought Paul knocked it from his hands (which he obviously didn’t), and the third bounce is him actually dribbling. So at the very least, it’s a double dribble, but the refs don’t ever seem to give the Clips the benefit of the doubt in any of these types of situations. It’s always “Clippers are flopping” or “Dwyane Wade wouldn’t have dropped that on his own.”

To be fair

Like most, I missed the double dribble the first time. Actually, like a magic trick, I think the non call on Wade’s push off distracted everyone from the double dribble. The second time I watched the play I immediately realized he had double dribbled.

I will say that they simply weren’t calling that kind of stuff in this game. Lots of pushing and shoving was uncalled, both ways. Ref thought Paul flopped, and he clearly embellished (and nicer word, we’ll use it since he’s on our team now). But just as clearly Wade extended his arm to push off, and that’s a foul.

Also Missed

During the collection of that rebound and double dribble, the refs also missed Udonis Haslem throwing Reggie Evans across the paint. I don’t normally complain about refereeing. It’s an incredibly difficult job, but there were more than a few suspect calls during this game. LJ Hann had a great write up on the officiating. If this play (along with Lebron’s jumpstop while crossing midcourt) didn’t make that list, it just goes to show how bad it was Wednesday night.

It’s a lot easier to complain without being called a homer when you still end up winning the game.

In all fairness

I only looked at calls in the last 5 minutes of regulation and overtime. So any calls early, no matter how terrible, didn’t make the cut.

No offense intended

Only meant to point out that there were far too many examples of suspect calls (or no calls) in crunch time Wednesday night. I’ve always been a believer in the idea that if you can blame a ref for a loss, then you can blame the team for putting themselves in a position to be affected by it. This game might have been the exception to that rule.

LOL

But we all missed it too during the game. We were focusing on the noncall on Wade’s elbow.

7 minutes?

I beat you by 7 minutes! It wasn’t even close.

Well...

I had to explain how to solve a problem he had with his project. So yeah, 7 minutes… not my fault he needs to be spoon fed.

"The refs are really letting them play"

I’ll never forget in Donaghy’s book (your choice to believe it or not) he said something to the extent that refs choose what games to officiate tight/loose and who to target each game. Sadly, at this point, I’m not all that shocked by blatantly missed calls when it comes to superstars in the NBA.

Has officiating always been this bad?

There is always human error I understand, but it just seems like guys get away with a lot more than before.

They made some rule changes I think

I think they are trying to tighten up on the flopping, and they are tightening up on when a foul is actually a shooting foul. I think.

Yes. Yes it has.

At least since the days of Magic and Bird, there have always been 2 sets of rules, 1 for the superstars and 1 for everyone else. And it’s always been maddeningly inconsistent too.

Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.

Sometimes you just have to push Reggie and it’s totally justifiable. We all know that’s true.
