Clippers to sign Courtney Fortson
Fortson is averaging 16 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds per game for the D-Fenders of the NBA d-league.. After leaving Arkansas following his sophomore season, Fortson was undrafted and has yet to play in an NBA game.
He is shooting 49% field goals and 42% three pointers in D-League action this season. He was in training camp with the Clippers, and was one of the last cuts.
The signing of Courtney means that he will help Chauncey Billups, Randy Foye, and Travis Leslie in the backcourt while injured guards Chris Paul, Eric Bledsoe, and Mo Williams recover from their various ailments.
The 5'11 Fortson will be signed to an ungarunteed contract, meaning that the team will have to make a decision on him in early February.

Well, when you have 4 point guards, and 3 are out, it's a sticky situation
My feeling is that he will be released before the February deadline
Probably
don’t see them using Fortson unless he shows glimpse of Mike Taylor (but even then can’t him in our present/ future.)
I expect Fortson to be cut the moment we have some good news on Bledsoe.

Once again, are you a Curren$y fan?
we’re cheap, like to drink and are pissed off.

Saw this guy in college,
decent player, but why another PG? Why not a backup for the C or SF position. Mo will be back sooner than we think and CP3 will not be gone for too long. And tell me why we still playing Cookie and not more of SJ? Cmon Olshey!
Does the FO realize
that we need a big? Right?

My guess on the 'needing a big' front. . .
Olshey will be patient, see whose available around trade deadline, and maybe by then we will know if Bledsoe is worth keeping over Mo, cause my guess is one of them gets traded for either a good backup C or a good swingman off then bench- or maybe even a package deal for both. He would then fill the other void with our mini-midlevel on a guy like Kenyon Martin, JR Smith, Wilson Chandler or use the vet min to sign Rasheed or Pryz if they show interest and look in shape.
In the end, Olshey is going to fix our bench by the deadline, at least for this season, but will be patient.

why not bring back Willie Warren?
He knows the offense and should be way more talented. Also I hope Travis Leslie gets mins before this guy if Mo doesn’t play and Foye starts at 2 Leslie should get the first guard mins off the bench.

Willie and Courtney were both cut in camp
the FO must have thought higher than Courtney, as he made it to the final cut with Marcus Hubbard, even though neither made the roster.
yep
courtney was like the final roster cut which was really surprising at the time, to keep him around when they clearly needed a big. Obviously saw something they liked, so not surprising to see him back when suddenly left with only one PG (Billups) who we don’t want playing 35+ minutes a night. I really don’t expect him to be around for long. At the longest, until Bled is back, but could be even shorter than that.
Well Fortson makes 15
so he could be around until the day contracts become guaranteed. So he has a few weeks to convince the Clippers to keep him (not entirely impossible if they do plan to move Mo and/or Bledsoe before the deadline).

yeah, the only way I see him sticking is if someone goes down for good
or someone is traded. Even if they release him before his contract becommes garunteed, they can sign him to a 10 day contract later on
we have some damn good rookies
We should put more faith in them Vinny needs to open up the rotation to avoid more injuries. Can’t let the older players wear down reason we have young talent.

potential
Its early but I just have a ton of faith in those two especially in case of injuries like now. I can understand Leslie not playing much due to depth but Thompkins not getting time over Cook is nuts

Potential means nothing if they don't work hard or have a good coach to teach
1 of the two is definitely missing. The other 1/2 is questionable.

based of being Clips fans
and them being young, and obviously are going to be the next Dwade and LaMarcus Aldridge. How can you not see the superstardom wasting away on the bench?
LOL
Proudly enduring the pain since the days of Bill Walton's foot.
Now living the good life in Lob City, CA.
At least he's familiar with the team
dont really see any real risk in this since its unguaranteed. Still bad news overall since this means CP3 and Mo will be out for some time?
Help us Altered Beast you're our only hope.
most likely Mo
Franchise wont do anything to put Paul at risk even if at the mount he is a two year rental. Rest him until the T wolves or Raptors game.

I would say the Mavericks game is pretty safe
If he doesn’t play Monday he could just stay in LA getting treatment until the Wednesday game. In fact that’s probably the smart move just rest him the next 2 games.

yeah- I was looking at
Twolves game(writing the recap)
Raptors game(cheapest)
Thunder game(see Durant live)
Thunder is out of my price range, and Dallas probably won’t work because I have school in the morning after. I’m buying of TiqIQ, and the prices always get lower the longer you wait. The only problem is that sometimes all the fairly priced seats get grabbed before they drop!
There are some mighty good deals for the Dallas game though. $20 for 300’s middle(1/3 of face price). You are a STH though, right?
Yea
I plan on being at the game. I don’t like midweek games though, getting old and it messes with my already messed up sleeping cycle :(

i saw Fortson
and thought Danny

Danny Fortson
Was a real bruiser on that Sonics team that featured a current Clipper. . .
Reggie Evans. Those two and an up-and-coming Rashard Lewis were the starting frontcourt for that good Sonics team in 04-05 season.

and jerome james
who would go on to receive one of the worst contracts for such a scrub player due to a decent playoff stretch
we need to start a poll on who's got the best hair on the Clippers
C-Fortson or VDN

Here Is What Draft Express Wrote About Him Back in 2009
It would be difficult to find a player with more energy and a better motor than Arkansas point guard Courtney Fortson. As one of the more exciting players in the country, Fortson plays an attacking style of basketball, while displaying a never back down attitude. With that said, his biggest strength could be his biggest weakness as he tends to play out of control as a result of his blazing speed – failing to recognize good vs. bad opportunities from time to time. That immaturity, coupled with poor decision making skills are expected of most freshmen, which means this season, Razorback nation will be anticipating a more polished and seasoned point guard leading their squad.
In order to be that player, Fortson will have to learn how to pick his spots while staying true to his aggressive nature. He plays tough and feisty, going every possession at 100%. At only 5’10, Fortson is a very good athlete with tremendous upper body strength.
His reactionary skills are rather impressive as well, routinely tracking down loose balls or getting into passing lanes which often results in him getting to the basket by leading a one man fast break. The southpaw uses hesitation moves, head and shoulder fakes off the bounce, and changes direction at the drop of a dime. He does a good job at keeping his dribble alive, but does get into trouble when he over dribbles, resulting in stagnant offensive possessions.
More on link above
I don’t recall ever having watched him play so I have nothing more to add.
LOL
This is what DraftExpress had to say about EB back in 2010
June 9, 2010
The fact that Eric Bledsoe didn’t play much point guard last season doesn’t flatter him in this analysis, and his lack of touches as a lead guard show in many of his situational efficiency measures.
Playing off the ball next to John Wall, Bledsoe posted solid numbers in some areas, but struggled mightily in others. His adjusted field goal percentage of 54% is third best in this group and is second to only Scottie Reynolds amongst college players. However, 22.1% of all of his possessions resulted in turnovers, the highest rate of any prospect at his position.
The most apparent example of Bledsoe’s role for Kentucky last season lies in his spot up percentages. Some 35.3% of his possessions were spot ups, the highest percentage in this group by more than 10%. In the same vein, his 4.9% pick and roll rate is by far the lowest. Whatever team drafts Bledsoe will surely need to play him alongside an additional ball-handler, as he clearly isn’t ready to handle full-time playmaking responsibilities himself, at least initially.
Despite not projecting as a shooting guard on the next level, Bledsoe would have some nice tools to play the two. He ranks as the third most efficient shooter in this group in terms of points per-shot from jumpers at 1.08 per-attempt. Despite hitting just 35.3% of his jump shots off the dribble, Bledsoe shot a ridiculous 66.7% adjust field goal percentage in unguarded catch and shoot situations. Should he land with a team with a shooting guard capable of distributing the ball, Bledsoe could add some nice things off the bench given the athleticism he offers along with his shooting and get a chance to refine his lead guard skills and cut down on mistakes over time.
Saw him at the scrimmage
He pretty much fit the description you posted.
