The Daily Clipper - Noon-Game-Edition
Our first of 8 noon games is today! Over the years, we've gotten used to these games. The sluggishness, the erratic play, the losses. However, with the rise of this team, I beg to ask, how long before the nba moves these games (maybe not the MLK game) to the everning? Next season? The team is relevant enough with Blake, but with CP3, it should be given as few noon games as possible. Can you imagine the lakers playing a noon game on a day that is not Christmas!! Happy MLK day and enjoy some links:

So, no CP or Mo today?
And Chauncey coming off of the obligatory “back spasms?” It’s going to be a pretty thin day for guards!
yeah wish Bledsoe were at least healthy.
Gonna have to hit the bench early so we can keep 1 or 2 starters in when most of the second unit takes the floor.

Didn't the lakers play the nuggets in an early start this season?
Don’t remember if it was noon but it was pretty early.

Noon games
I don’t think the NBA has much to do with the scheduling of the noon games. IIRC, it has more to do with Staples Center availability, and the fact that the Clips are 3rd on the priority list after both the Lakers and the Kings.

priority list
Are the Lakers ahead of the Clips on Staples’ list? I always thought that the NBA wanted Lakers in prime time for television reasons.
Going old-school on you
Here’s the original story in the Times from 1998, and the relevant paragraph:
Their status is clearly spelled out as being that of the third occupant. The Kings and the Lakers will get first priority. The Kings will play on Thursdays and Saturdays except for those dates that cause scheduling problems for the National Hockey League. The Lakers will get Fridays and Sundays. The Clippers will get whatever is left. But the two basketball teams could play at Staples on the same day when necessary, and the new facility would also be able to accommodate basketball and hockey on the same day.Pretty sure all of this remains true in 2012, and that a lot of the noon starts (including today’s) are on days when the Lakers have claimed the night slot as the primary tenant.

Noon games are one of the major drawbacks of what is probably the cheapest arena lease in the nba
